Chapter 135: Chapter 135: Love for Sale

Time to get to work!

Jessie decided to postpone the Chapter where the male college student secretly holds the female lead’s hand in class. Her previous update had ended on a cliffhanger: the male supporting character playing guitar in a bar, grandly professing his love to the female lead. The comments section was already full of readers begging for more.

Jessie decided to expand on this plot point a bit.

’He’s already made this grand declaration, and the female lead hasn’t shown any distaste for this young, sweet-faced supporting character. It wouldn’t be going too far for them to head to a hotel after this, would it? That’s a reasonable plot development, isn’t it?’

Jessie’s mind was racing, but Victor Morgan, who had yet to receive a reply from her, was growing restless.

Victor Morgan called Jessie two more times, but both went unanswered. When he tried to call again, he found he’d been blocked.

Victor Morgan rubbed the bridge of his nose and called Keegan Sanders.

Lynn Jennings watched Jessie block Victor Morgan’s number. She raised an eyebrow. "Well, look at you, Jessie. You’ve gotten bold."

Jessie was still engrossed in drawing the scene where the sweet young character came down from the stage to coax a kiss from the female lead. Hearing Lynn’s comment, she didn’t even look up. "It’s all thanks to Ms. Jennings’s excellent teaching."

Even Jessie couldn’t help but laugh after saying that.

Perhaps the thought of "provoking Victor Morgan" was just too tempting. Jessie pulled an all-nighter, unable to stop herself from finishing and publishing the scene where the young heartthrob leads the heroine to a hotel entrance. Only then did she toss her tablet aside and fall into bed.

"Haaaah..."

Jessie collapsed onto the bed and let out a long breath. ’Finally done.’

She’d been incredibly productive these last few days; even the readers following her series were a little taken aback.

Most, however, were just screaming in the comments for the juicy, explicit scenes.

When Jessie finished posting the latest Chapter in the dead of night, Lynn Jennings casually clicked on it to take a look.

"Tsk, you really aren’t afraid of your readers sending you death threats, are you?" As a fellow night owl, Lynn Jennings was obviously still awake. After reading the update, she grew incredibly curious about how Victor Morgan would react.

Jessie felt her eyelids had a mind of their own, drooping uncontrollably. When she heard Lynn’s voice, she just mumbled, rolled over, and instantly her breathing evened out.

Serena Lynch also saw Jessie’s update around this time and burst out laughing.

Believing that fun is best when shared, Serena Lynch opened her chat window with Victor Morgan.

Serena Lynch: Victor, have you seen Jessie’s latest update? Are you able to sleep? Can you even work?

Victor Morgan: ...

’If she were actually his sister, he might have been tempted to throttle her.’

Serena Lynch was clearly the audacious type, with the nerve to back it up. Even though Victor completely ignored her messages, she wasn’t the least bit scared or upset. She simply opened her music app and shared a few songs with him—

"Green Pastures"

"Love for Sale"

"What Kind of Man Are You"

On the other end, Victor’s temples throbbed as he read the titles.

Serena, on the other hand, thought she was brilliant. After sharing the songs, she roared with laughter.

Finally, Serena received a reply from Victor.

This time, however, his reply was very un-Victor-like.

"You have a death wish?"

This only made Serena laugh harder. ’I probably won’t be the one dying first,’ she thought. ’Even if someone dies, it’ll be that guy on the other end. Jessie will play him to death first.’

Perhaps because she was so pleased with the success of her little entrapment scheme, Jessie slept soundly and woke up the next day full of energy.

She decided to treat herself to a two-week vacation.

’She’d been working so hard on her updates, going from a weekly to a daily schedule. She definitely deserved a reward, right?’

Over the next few days, Jessie barely even opened the admin page for her webcomic. She was too busy having the time of her life: driving with Lynn Jennings to chase the Northern Lights, going on an icebreaker to catch seafood, heading out to sea for whale watching, or visiting Santa Claus Village.

Her social media feed was updated almost daily. The weather they encountered was perfect, and the snow-covered towns looked like they were straight out of a fairytale.

Shivering from the cold, Jessie snapped photos with her camera, unable to keep from exclaiming, "It’s so beautiful!" and "Look at all this snow!"

When they were tired out from all the fun, they’d just find a hotel to crash and relax.

After about ten days of travel, Jessie received a call from Quincy Sterling.

Although Quincy Sterling had a lot of contacts on her social media, she had no interest in snooping on their lives. She’d muted most of them, finding it a bother to look.

But she always paid special attention to posts from her family’s "young miss."

Lately, Jessie’s vacation posts had been completely taking over Quincy’s feed.

"When are you coming back?" Quincy’s voice sounded drained when she called Jessie. With so much to do at year-end, Quincy had been working for over ten days straight without a single day off. 𝒇𝙧𝙚𝓮𝔀𝓮𝒃𝙣𝓸𝒗𝒆𝒍.𝙘𝒐𝒎

"Huh?" Jessie was in the middle of feeding an apple to a reindeer. "In a few days, maybe. Why? What’s up?"

Quincy: "The company’s annual gala is tentatively scheduled for the 24th. Make sure you’re back before then."

"Got it." Jessie didn’t feel her presence at the gala was particularly important, but of course, she wouldn’t refuse a request from Quincy.

"By the way, do you know when your husband’s company is having its annual gala?" Quincy asked.

Jessie replied nonchalantly, "Why would I need to know that?"

She had planned on attending the Morgan Group’s gala before, but now, if Victor wasn’t going to ask her personally, she refused to be the one to back down.

Hearing Jessie’s cavalier tone, Quincy wished she could reach through the phone and smack her on the forehead.

"You have to go." Quincy cut her off before she could refuse. "You two got married last year. This is your first time attending as the CEO’s wife. You’re a shareholder in the Morgan Group, too. It’s a good opportunity to meet everyone."

Jessie just let out a lazy-sounding "Oh..."

Quincy wouldn’t let her slack off on this. "I’ll have Dad ask him. If he doesn’t call to invite you, then that’s on him, and we’ll have a score to settle."

Quincy said this in a gentle voice, but who knew what treacherous undercurrents lay beneath that calm surface?

Jessie, however, absolutely loved this side of her. Clutching her phone, she was on the verge of turning into a blubbering mess. "Oh, Quincy, you’re the best! What would I ever do without you!"

"Don’t be dramatic."

But the person who said it couldn’t keep a hint of a smile from her face.

Jessie never expected that instead of a phone call from Victor Morgan, she’d get the man himself in person.

Having already chased the Northern Lights and gone stargazing on previous nights, Jessie and Lynn decided to find a bar to relax in this evening.
