Chapter 120: Chapter 120: Nina Walsh

Upon arriving at Lynn Jennings’s wooden villa, Jessie Sterling first took a walk around the entire yard.

Although it was a villa, the rustic-looking log cabin wasn’t particularly luxurious.

The second floor housed the living and dining rooms, while the bedrooms were on the first floor—the complete opposite of a typical house layout.

Because the site was chosen specifically for the hot spring, the entire first-floor bedroom was connected to the spring outside.

Sliding open the huge, transparent glass door that led to the yard, you could jump straight into the hot spring pool.

Next to the hot spring, there were also facilities like massage stones. It was all very natural, yet also very convenient.

"Whoa!" Jessie Sterling exclaimed, looking at the steam rising outside the window. The air was filled with the natural smell of sulfur.

A server had already delivered drinks and fruit to the room. Since the hot spring was practically part of the bedroom, there was even a projector screen on the wall facing the pool, allowing people to watch movies while they soaked.

Though any movie you watched would probably look ethereal and hazy through the steam.

The three women weren’t shy. They changed their clothes and got right into the pool.

Jessie had originally thought it would just be her and Lynn Jennings in the hot spring. In that case, they wouldn’t have needed swimsuits. But now Serena Lynch was here too, wasn’t she? Jessie wasn’t quite ready to bare it all in front of a woman she’d just met.

But to her surprise, Serena Lynch was even more uninhibited than the two girls from Southaven. She didn’t even wrap a towel around herself. After stripping naked, she jumped straight into the hot spring.

The sight left Jessie and Lynn Jennings standing there with their mouths agape.

Serena, already in the water, grinned and waved them over. "What are you waiting for? Hurry up and get in! Ahhh, this feels amazing."

Jessie and Lynn Jennings exchanged a look and grit their teeth. They got into the hot spring with their towels still wrapped around them, only placing them on a smooth stone nearby once they were in the water.

Seeing this, Serena Lynch burst out laughing. "You southerners are so funny! So modest even when you’re just taking off your clothes."

Jessie: "..."

Lynn: "..."

The two of them had traveled to the northeast before and had specifically gone to experience the bathhouse culture.

But as soon as they walked in, they were hit with a culture shock.

The shower stalls in the bathhouse had no doors.

After rinsing off, everyone would walk stark naked toward the body-scrubbing tables.

There could be several heated beds in the same room. Not only would you be seen completely naked by the scrubber lady, but by all the strangers around you as well.

Jessie and Lynn Jennings had nearly fled in a panic.

When Serena Lynch heard them recount this experience, she couldn’t help but laugh again.

"I know what you mean!" she said. "Our test site used to be in the northeast. It’s sparsely populated, which is what we needed for our test drives. I stayed there for a while and went to the bathhouses often. You can spot you southerners from a mile away. You’re always walking around covering your chests or covering your crotches. HA HA HA, it’s absolutely adorable!"

The two people from Southaven, who wished they had enough hands to cover every part of their bodies: "..."

That was too accurate!

Three young women, even if they’d just met that day, found it easy to start a conversation.

From daily necessities to jewelry and handbags, and even national affairs, there was no topic they couldn’t discuss.

As long as they weren’t trying to run the country, the conversation was quite pleasant.

Somehow, the topic shifted to Roman Lynch, and Jessie learned that while he handled business management, it was Serena Lynch who was the real R&D person.

She couldn’t help but "wow" out loud. "Luna and Lynn are both so amazing!"

Her friends were all incredibly smart people, competing with a majority of men in their respective fields. To Jessie, that was unbelievably impressive.

In the popular consciousness, fields like engineering and R&D were considered natural territory for men, yet the friends around her were doing an even better job.

A spark of inspiration suddenly flashed through Jessie’s mind.

But before she could grab hold of it and examine it, she heard Lynn Jennings ask, "So what’s the deal with that Nina Walsh from your family? Is she your sister too?"

Of course, Lynn didn’t actually care who Nina Walsh was. But when they were coming in earlier, she had noticed at a glance that Nina’s feelings for Victor Morgan might be more than just those of a "childhood friend."

She glanced at the carefree young lady beside her, a hint of exasperation in her eyes.

Serena Lynch: "Oh? Her..."

When Serena Lynch mentioned Nina Walsh, her expression grew complicated.

"She’s the daughter of my and Roman Lynch’s wet nurse," Serena said.

The profession of a wet nurse sounds a bit strange in this day and age.

"My mom didn’t have much milk after giving birth to my brother and me. The older generation in our family believed that newborns who didn’t have breast milk would have weaker immune systems than other kids, so they hired a wet nurse," Serena explained. "My brother and I were basically raised by Auntie Wei. Her first child died from a fever on the way to Aethelburg. Nina, who she was pregnant with at the time, was a posthumous child. My parents saw that she was all alone in Aethelburg, so they let her stay with our family."

Lynn Jennings had heard people say that baby formula wasn’t as nutritious as breast milk, but she hadn’t looked into it herself.

"Auntie Wei still lives with us now, helping with the cooking and cleaning. But we already have other cooks and cleaning ladies, so she isn’t too busy or overworked," Serena said.

"So how did Nina Walsh end up becoming your sister?"

Serena leaned back against a rock. "Nina was a sweet-talker from a young age, and my parents were quite fond of her. Plus, Auntie Wei has always lived with us. Even though it was technically an employment relationship, she became practically family. So my parents suggested adopting Nina as their goddaughter, since she grew up with me and my brother anyway. Pretty much anything I had, Nina had too."

As she said this, Serena didn’t seem particularly resentful.

After she started working, she often helped young girls from mountainous regions, sponsoring their education and so on.

"There’s one more thing..." Serena glanced at Jessie. "She seemed to have a crush on Victor before."

Jessie didn’t look particularly surprised. "Oh."

Seeing Jessie’s reaction, Serena was amused. "You’re not upset?"

"What’s there to be upset about? It doesn’t matter if she likes Victor Morgan. Isn’t he married to me?" Jessie said nonchalantly.

Serena burst out laughing and clapped her hands. "Yes, yes, that’s the right way to think! You really don’t have to worry. Victor just sees her as a little sister."

Jessie’s expression didn’t change, but inside, she couldn’t help but grumble. ’Even a sister is a no-go! She’s not his real sister, so what’s the deal? How many "sisters" does he want to collect out there?’

’If Victor Morgan dared, I’d go out and find seven or eight god-brothers of my own and parade them in front of him just to piss him off.’
