Chapter 33: Chapter 33: Should Have Asked to Be Dismissed Long Ago

The onlookers couldn’t help but jeer. "Oh my god, I’m dying of laughter. ’I’m Eliza Sutton. Get me a private room at the Elysian Palace Club.’ So commanding!"

Brenda Preston raised an eyebrow at Manager Campbell. "Manager Campbell, this subordinate of mine says she’s arranging for a private room at the Elysian Palace Club. What do you have to say about that?"

Manager Campbell was utterly disdainful. "My apologies, but I haven’t received any calls. And I don’t expect I will. Like I said before, the Elysian Palace Club isn’t a place just any riffraff can enter, let alone get a private room arranged for them."

The moment Manager Campbell finished speaking, his phone rang.

It was the big boss on the other end, giving orders: "Arrange a top-floor suite for a young lady."

"Which young lady?" Manager Campbell asked.

"Is the name of someone that important for you to ask? Just know that she’s already at the entrance. You’d better treat her well—no slacking. I’m heading back right now!"

The big boss repeated his instructions before finally hanging up.

Manager Campbell stared at Eliza Sutton, his expression a mix of shock and suspicion. ’She just made a call, and the big boss calls me right after? And he sounded so serious...’

’Could it be that, apart from being an ordinary employee and an ex-convict like Miss Preston said, she has some other incredible identity?’

While Manager Campbell was still reeling in uncertainty, Brenda Preston’s phone rang.

Brenda Preston answered the call. "Dad."

Chairman Preston said, "I had the Elysian Palace Club upgrade your suite. I also arranged for a few bottles of Romanee Conti to be sent over to thank your colleagues for supporting you at work."

Brenda Preston smiled sweetly. "Thanks, Dad."

After hanging up, she waved her phone. "That was my dad. He heard I was treating everyone to dinner here today, so he had our suite upgraded and even arranged for some Romanee Conti."

At Brenda Preston’s words, her colleagues from the design department flocked around her, thanking her profusely, their hearts filled with envy.

Who wouldn’t want a family background like Brenda Preston’s?

Manager Campbell finally put two and two together. The big boss’s call must have been for Miss Preston. The Preston Family had developed quite well in recent years, enough to be considered a top-tier elite family. And since she was the most doted-on daughter, it was no wonder the boss had been so serious.

As for Eliza Sutton...

’She was just putting on an act.’

Manager Campbell sneered, called over security, and pointed at Eliza Sutton. "Get her out of here!"

The guards started to close in on Eliza Sutton.

Eliza Sutton frowned at Manager Campbell. "You’d better think carefully before you throw me out."

"Think carefully? What is there to think about?" Manager Campbell was growing impatient. He was only interested in sucking up to important people, not wasting time on small fry like Eliza Sutton.

Just then, someone from the design department scoffed, "Someone was just putting on a show, making a phone call. I really thought she had some pull, but it turns out she was just bluffing. It’s hilarious! Poor Crystal Harrison. Why does she insist on getting mixed up with Eliza Sutton?"

Brenda Preston said magnanimously, "Crystal Harrison, come over here. Do you really want to get thrown out too?"

On Manager Campbell’s order, the guards’ attitude hardened. "This way, miss."

Crystal Harrison tugged on Eliza’s arm. "Eliza, let’s just go."

Eliza Sutton’s brow furrowed in annoyance. ’What is wrong with these people? Can’t they even handle a simple task like this?’

"If you won’t leave willingly, we’ll have to use force."

The guard was about to forcibly remove Eliza Sutton, taunting her disdainfully, "So shameless. An ex-convict thinks she can enter the Elysian Palace?"

Just then, a deep male voice rang out.

"If criminals can’t enter the Elysian Palace Club, what about the disabled?"

As the words faded, a man in a wheelchair slowly came into view.

He was devastatingly handsome, with a noble air. Despite being unable to walk, he possessed an aura so powerful that no one dared to meet his gaze.

Shane Lockwood had arrived.

Erik Irvine stood behind him, ever the silent and dutiful assistant.

Brenda Preston was the first to approach him. "Shane, what are you doing here?"

"I came for dinner. But it looks like I might not be able to get in." Shane Lockwood’s icy gaze swept across the onlookers. "It would be a shame to disturb everyone’s... distinguished presence."

The people who had been jeering just moments ago quickly spoke up. "President Lockwood, what are you saying? Your presence is what makes this place distinguished."

"President Lockwood, you must have misheard. We were just welcoming this young lady. As for the ’criminal’ part... well, who doesn’t make mistakes when they’re young? If she’s turned over a new leaf, there’s no need to be so harsh."

A few others simply snuck away, terrified of being remembered by Shane Lockwood.

As for Manager Campbell, he was sweating bullets. His previously ramrod-straight back was now stooped as he said obsequiously, "President Lockwood, this is all a misunderstanding."

As he was speaking, another set of hurried footsteps approached.

A middle-aged man entered, flanked by a group of bodyguards.

His eyes lit up when he saw Eliza Sutton. But just as he started toward her, he saw her shoot him a meaningful look.

He froze for a second, then abruptly changed course. Walking over to Shane Lockwood, he bowed and said apologetically, "President Lockwood, your presence brings honor to our humble establishment. The suite is ready. This way, please."

Shane Lockwood glanced at Eliza Sutton, who was still standing rooted to the spot. He frowned in displeasure. "What are you standing around for? Get inside."

"Oh, right. Let’s go then." Perfectly composed, Eliza Sutton took Crystal Harrison’s hand and followed Shane Lockwood into the elevator.

Brenda Preston nearly ground her teeth to dust, but she still followed them.

The middle-aged man personally escorted the group to the suite. When he turned, he saw Manager Campbell trailing behind him like a frightened quail. Remembering the manager’s earlier blunder, his expression turned grim.

"You’re fired. Now, get out!"

「Inside the suite.」

The members of the design department all took their seats cautiously.

They had seen Shane Lockwood, the president of The Lockwood Group, many times before, but this was the first time they had ever been seated with him. They began to whisper excitedly among themselves.

"So this is a top VIP suite at the Elysian Palace, huh? It’s so luxurious and spacious! If it weren’t for President Lockwood, we’d never get to set foot in a place like this in our entire lives."

"He did it all for Eliza Sutton. President Lockwood only stepped in because he saw she was being given a hard time. Do you guys think he’s interested in her?"

"Could be. Eliza Sutton is gorgeous."

Listening to their whispers, Brenda Preston felt a fire of rage ignite within her. She gritted her teeth and hissed at them, "All of you, shut up! What nonsense are you spouting!"

The others were frightened into silence, not daring to utter another word. But Brenda Preston’s anger was far from appeased, especially when she saw Shane Lockwood have Eliza Sutton sit next to him. She nearly exploded with rage.

’Eliza Sutton is nothing but a low-class bride, brought in for good luck! Now that Shane is awake, she should have been kicked out. What right does she have to sit next to him?!’
