After Prison I Rushed into Marriage with a Comatose Tycoon-Chapter 27: Call Shane Lockwood a Eunuch
Eliza Sutton was at a loss for words. She truly hadn’t expected everyone’s imagination to be so vivid.
She put her phone on speaker, set it aside, and stretched languidly.
"Rumors. They’re all just rumors. I’m just acting as Shane Lockwood’s human shield to help him fend off all the vultures. You know Shane Lockwood waking up has messed with a lot of people’s interests. Of course some people are unhappy and want to test the waters."
Eva Monroe thought that made a lot of sense and couldn’t help but ask, "So, Yama Lockwood really can’t get it up?"
"Yep. Totally useless. I could try seducing him in a uniform, put on a sexy lingerie show, and still nothing."
Eva Monroe sighed. "It’s the age-old tragedy: beauties fade and heroes fall from grace. From this day forward, the Yama Lockwood who terrified all of Seabourne is no better than a eunuch. Everyone will be calling him that."
Suddenly, a chill crept up Eliza Sutton’s spine. She instinctively turned around, only to see Erik Irvine wheeling Shane Lockwood into the doorway. Shane was staring at her as if she were already a dead woman.
Eliza Sutton shot upright with a jolt.
Meanwhile, Eva Monroe was still chattering away on the phone.
"Good thing you only have to be his human shield for three months. If it were for life, you’d be stuck in a sexless marriage forever, wouldn’t you? No way. Absolutely not. There are so many hot young guys out there; it would be a total waste to be stuck with one dud."
Listening to Eva Monroe’s wild talk, Eliza Sutton felt her skin crawl. She quickly cut her off, "Eve, I’m getting ready for work. Let’s talk another time."
"Okay. In a couple of days, I’ll set something up. I’ll find you a few toy boys with long legs and lean hips so you can at least scratch that itch..."
Eliza Sutton hung up the phone, cutting off Eva Monroe’s fatally reckless comments.
Eliza Sutton took a deep breath and put on a smile. "Mr. Lockwood, you’re back. Have you had breakfast?"
"I was about to change before breakfast. I didn’t expect to walk in on Mrs. Lockwood discussing my... performance."
"A misunderstanding. That wasn’t a friend, just a telemarketer. They heard some gossip and started spouting nonsense."
"A telemarketer? I didn’t realize Mrs. Lockwood was on such friendly terms with telemarketers."
Eliza Sutton said with a perfectly straight face, "I was mainly trying to help you, Mr. Lockwood. You made such a high-profile appearance with me last night. Wasn’t the whole point to let the rumor that you have a ’small problem’ get out?"
"Is that so?" Shane Lockwood’s expression was unreadable.
"Of course. The people plotting against you are bound to show their true colors soon. You didn’t even come home last night, Mr. Lockwood. I assume you were busy dealing with all that."
Eliza Sutton finished dressing, took the wheelchair from Erik Irvine, and pushed Shane Lockwood into the bathroom. "Mr. Lockwood, you can wash up first. I’ll wait outside the door. Just call if you need anything."
Eliza Sutton had only taken a single step when a hand clamped down on her wrist.
She looked at Shane Lockwood, confused. "Mr. Lockwood?"
"Eliza Sutton, if you’re trying to get my attention this way, I have to tell you, it’s a pathetic attempt." Shane Lockwood’s expression was icy, his gaze so sharp it seemed to pierce right through to her soul.
"Mr. Lockwood, you seem to have forgotten something. Yesterday, you were the one who demanded I skip work to accompany you. And that ’doting husband’ persona you’ve adopted is just to make things easier on yourself. I’m just a prop playing my part. For you to be suspicious of me now... isn’t that a bit unfair?"
"Unfair? I can be much more unfair." With that, Shane Lockwood yanked her wrist, pulling Eliza Sutton into his lap. His sharp gaze locked onto her as he crushed his lips against hers.
Eliza Sutton’s eyes flew wide with astonishment. The moment she snapped out of it, she tried to shove Shane Lockwood away, but he anticipated her move and seized her wrists.
She was pinned between the man in her lap and the sink, unable to stop his relentless kiss.
When he finally released her, Eliza Sutton immediately sprang off his lap.
She wiped at her lips, saying furiously, "Shane Lockwood, you’ve gone too far!"
"Since Mrs. Lockwood is already living like a widow for my sake, it’s only right I help you scratch that itch. What’s wrong? Don’t I measure up to those ’toy boys’ with long legs and lean hips?" Shane Lockwood’s expression was placid, but his tone was laced with amusement.
But the hairs on the back of Eliza Sutton’s neck stood on end.
"She just has no filter. Please, Mr. Lockwood, be the bigger person. Don’t stoop to the level of a silly girl."
Shane Lockwood raised his eyes. "Wasn’t that a telemarketer you were just chatting with, Mrs. Lockwood? From your tone, it sounds like you know them."
Eliza Sutton’s expression didn’t falter. "I don’t know her. I just figured someone as magnanimous as Mr. Lockwood wouldn’t bother making trouble for a simple telemarketer, right?"
A small smile played on Shane Lockwood’s lips. "And what if I insist on making trouble for her?"
"You insist?" Eliza Sutton feigned surprise, then shrugged nonchalantly. "Then suit yourself, Mr. Lockwood."
Shane Lockwood was taken aback. "Not going to try and persuade me further?"
"Didn’t I just try? Besides, it’s not like you’re someone I can persuade anyway."
Shane Lockwood studied Eliza Sutton for a long moment before suddenly breaking into a smile. "You’re very clever. Now, help me wash up."
...
"Eliza Sutton!"
Eliza Sutton had just stepped into the design department at the Lockwood Group when a voice rang out behind her.
She instinctively turned, and a gust of Palm Wind rushed toward her.
Eliza Sutton dodged at once. She avoided the slap, but the folder in her hands was knocked to the floor, scattering design sketches everywhere.
"Eliza Sutton, how dare you dodge!"
Eliza Sutton frowned at Amelia Sutton, annoyed. "Are you insane?"
"Insane? I might as well be! You’ve got a lot of nerve, scheming against my mother!"
"Scheming?" Eliza Sutton’s voice rose in surprise. "When did I ever scheme against your mother?"
"My mother is so ashamed she can’t even leave the house because of you, and you still dare to deny it! I’ll kill you!" Amelia Sutton lunged at her again like a lunatic, starting to fight with Eliza.
’Mae Sheffield’s reputation was in tatters, and she, as her daughter, was suffering from the fallout. Countless people had been asking her about her mother keeping a boy toy.’
’Even the Hughes family had gotten involved. Her future mother-in-law warned her that the Hughes family had an upstanding reputation and couldn’t have a daughter-in-law whose family was a mess. Mrs. Hughes had even started frequently inviting other young socialites to their home, making Sean entertain them. It was obvious she was looking for a replacement daughter-in-law!’
’And this was all because of Eliza Sutton!’
’It was all Eliza Sutton’s fault!’
Eliza Sutton, busy fending off Amelia Sutton who was attacking her like a rabid dog, didn’t notice Reina Miles picking up the scattered design sketches.
When she saw the drawing on the page, her eyes filled with awe. The design was stunning, absolutely perfect.
’She herself could never create something like this—even Brenda Preston didn’t have a piece this perfect in her portfolio!’
’She looked down and saw the signature. Eliza Sutton!’
’Eliza Sutton!’
’How could Eliza Sutton come up with such a perfect design?!’
’What right did she have to create something so perfect?!’
Seething with jealousy and hatred, Reina Miles glanced around. Seeing that no one was watching, she stealthily took a photo of the design with her phone, then walked away as if nothing had happened.
