Chapter 99: Chapter 99: Just a Personal Grudge

Nina Jacobs knew just where to strike to cause the most pain.

In every exchange with Liam Grant, she deliberately struck where it would hurt the most.

Liam Grant seemed to have realized this and, enduring the pain, created some distance between them.

"Nina Jacobs, let’s see you dodge this!"

Two Fireballs shot toward Nina Jacobs, flanking her from the left and right.

His smile quickly froze on his face. Just then, two even more powerful Fireballs collided with his own.

His attack was devoured in an instant.

Without losing any of their power, the two Fireballs continued straight for his face!

With no way to dodge, he had no choice but to draw the saber from his waist. He struck out forcefully as he retreated, dispersing the Fireballs.

The shattered Fireballs fell to the ground, becoming a scattering of small flames.

With a slight lift of Nina Jacobs’s hand, the small flames on the ground floated into mid-air and all shot toward Liam Grant!

"What kind of freakish move is that?"

"This woman is no joke, Captain Grant! Watch out!"

Countless flames rushed at him, instantly singeing holes of all sizes into his clothes.

He looked like a complete mess.

"Nina Jacobs, are you playing with me?"

Liam Grant raised his saber, and its blade burst into flame. A moment later, a barrage of Fire Blades flew toward Nina Jacobs.

"Is that it?"

Nina Jacobs didn’t even flinch. A Fire Shield instantly materialized in front of her.

The air around the Fire Shield warped from the scorching heat. The Fire Blades vanished against it like moths to a flame.

While the crowd was still reeling in shock from the Fire Shield, Nina Jacobs was already charging from behind it, brandishing her long whip!

"She’s finally making a move."

Chester Pearson chuckled.

As a fellow Fire Element Superpower User, the difference in their power was obvious to him.

SWOOSH!

The whip cracked against Liam Grant’s shoulder, instantly drawing blood.

CRACK! CRACK!

After two more lashes, Liam Grant could only use his saber to block.

The whip coiled swiftly around the saber. Then, red flames erupted from the seemingly ordinary weapon.

Flames engulfed the saber, and with a cry of pain, Liam Grant dropped the weapon.

His palm was already covered in several gruesome, large blisters from the searing hilt.

THUD!

Nina Jacobs landed a kick square in Liam Grant’s abdomen.

Liam Grant’s entire body screamed in unbearable pain, but he forced himself to stay on his feet.

"And this is the guy you call the strongest fighter?"

Her sharp gaze swept over the crowd of onlookers, only to see a sea of pale, shocked faces.

"Captain Grant must have let you win!"

Someone in the crowd shouted.

"Yeah, Captain Grant probably didn’t expect you to be so ruthless."

The girl on the stage looked so quiet and unassuming; no one expected her to be such a fighter.

"You were going easy on me?"

Nina Jacobs asked Liam Grant with feigned surprise. "How about this? I’ll give you three free shots. Let’s see if you can even lay a scratch on me."

"Nina Jacobs, don’t go too far!"

Ever since arriving at the shelter, everything had been smooth sailing for Liam Grant. Although his Dual Element Superpower hadn’t awakened yet, in terms of Superpowers, no one had been his match.

Liam Grant was now pushed to his absolute limit.

Nina Jacobs truly didn’t attack for the next three moves, only dodging. But Liam Grant discovered he couldn’t land a single blow on her.

’When did Nina Jacobs get so strong?’

"My turn."

After the three moves were up, the long whip in Nina’s hand abruptly became a Fire Whip.

Liam Grant knew how dangerous the whip was. As he formed a Fire Shield in front of him, he also launched several powerful Fireballs at Nina Jacobs.

Following the Fireballs were a dozen or so Flaming Blades, a dazzling and disorienting display.

"As expected of Captain Grant."

Someone said excitedly, thinking now they’d see how Nina Jacobs could possibly dodge.

"Is that all you’ve got? Just a bunch of flashy moves?"

To Nina Jacobs, the Fireballs and Fire Blades seemed to be moving in slow motion. They looked impressive, but their actual damage was mediocre.

"Let’s see you dodge them first,"

Liam Grant sneered.

But his sneer quickly vanished.

Nina swung her Fire Whip. Like a swimming fire dragon, it instantly shattered the Fireballs into a spray of sparks.

The Fire Blades were devoured by the dragon as well. With a CRACK, the whip struck the ground, and a winding Fire Serpent shot swiftly toward Liam Grant.

BOOM!

The Fire Serpent leaped up and struck Liam Grant as he tried to block with his saber, forcefully knocking him back several meters.

"Captain Grant, watch out!"

Somehow, Nina Jacobs had already gotten behind him.

’Not good.’

However, Liam Grant was completely unable to counterattack, because the Fire Serpent had transformed into multiple Fire Ropes, binding him completely.

He suddenly felt a sharp pain from behind.

It sent him, already unsteady on his feet, crashing to the ground.

THUMP!

Another brutal kick followed.

Even the onlookers heard the sickening crack of breaking bones.

Although Nina Jacobs had withdrawn her Superpower, she showed no mercy in her attacks.

"Stop! Stop hitting him!"

Seeing things were getting out of hand, Sheldon Holden quickly ordered his men to step forward and block Nina Jacobs.

"The rules of the match state that you can’t take a life,

that’s enough, Miss,"

Sheldon Holden said.

"Alright."

No sooner had Nina Jacobs cheerfully agreed than she turned and delivered another kick to Liam Grant on the ground.

This kick sent a scream from Liam Grant that seemed to pierce the heavens.

"I thought you said you’d stop?!"

Sheldon Holden hurriedly had his men shield Liam Grant, who was curled up on the ground.

’This woman doesn’t keep her word!’

"That was for the match. This kick is personal,"

Nina Jacobs said matter-of-factly.

"Your Captain Grant is a cheating scumbag. It’s perfectly reasonable for me to beat him up a bit, right?"

"Oh, and by the way, don’t go around calling him the strongest fighter anymore,

he can’t even beat me,

it’s seriously pathetic."

With that, Nina Jacobs walked off, completely unscathed.

"Holy shit, Nina, that was badass!"

Leo Hale looked ready to kneel and worship her.

"Nina, you were out there on your own all this time. You didn’t get hurt, did you?"

Daniel Hale also asked.

"Wayne Warner was with me, so I’m fine.

How’s my mom?"

Nina was most worried about Vera Coleman.

"She’s doing great, just worried about you.

She’ll be overjoyed to know you’re back."

Daniel Hale replied with a cheerful laugh.

But Nina noticed that Daniel Hale seemed to have lost some weight since she’d left, and his eyes held a hint of weariness.

"How come Wayne Warner went out with you for a bit and came back even more built?"

Leo Hale looked at Wayne Warner, who was following behind Nina.

He’d just noticed quite a few female Superpower Users stealing glances at Wayne Warner.

"Maybe it’s your imagination?"

Nina noticed that Leo Hale had gotten even leaner.

Turns out, it was because he’d been going out to kill zombies with Chester Pearson almost every day.

You could call it a zombie-killing diet.

"We really owe you for that just now.

If you hadn’t come back when you did, Ian Chandler was about to go looking for you,

but the kid’s out on a run today."

Chester Pearson sat in his wheelchair, his chin covered in stubble.

He looked at Nina, an eyebrow cocked, his smile holding the same devil-may-care attitude as always.

"I didn’t intend to get involved in your affairs,

so you don’t have to thank me. It was just a personal grudge between him and me,"

Nina Jacobs replied.

"I knew you’d say that.

But I have to thank you all the same."

Chester Pearson laughed.

’He believed Nina had deliberately said that on stage to avoid damaging the rescue squad’s reputation.

After all, by framing it as a personal grudge, no one could use it to gossip or stir up trouble for them.

Nina Jacobs really did think of everything.’
