After I Fully Prepared for the Apocalypse, the Ungrateful Cried with Regret-Chapter 97: Causing Great Harm
Nina Jacobs kicked him away.
"Aren’t you unafraid?
Aren’t you a fan of research? So, how do you feel now?"
Villains usually get what they deserve.
But it’s often the stupid and paranoid ones who cause the most harm.
"Let me tell you something. Your wound is already starting to turn black and stink.
In another three minutes, the zombie virus toxins will spread throughout your entire body.
Your immune system is completely useless against this virus.
All of your nerves and cells will be killed by the virus, including you yourself."
Nina Jacobs’s words were like a death sentence.
Coupled with the agonizing pain racking his body, the man with glasses began to tremble all over.
But he still insisted on crawling toward his backpack, pulling out several syringes, and jabbing them all into his neck.
"It’s fine. It should be fine.
I have antibiotics, I have serum... I can get through this." 𝒻𝓇𝑒𝘦𝘸𝑒𝒷𝓃ℴ𝑣𝘦𝑙.𝒸ℴ𝘮
The serum and antibiotics were all injected into his body, but the dark, bluish-black veins under his skin still spread rapidly across him.
"How can this be?"
He sobbed as he stared at his own unfamiliar arm.
"This is all your fault! I could have taken it back to study!
It’s all your fault!"
He shrieked and lunged at Nina Jacobs, but she pinned him to the wall with a single strike of her blade.
THUD.
The back of the man’s head blossomed into a brown flower against the wall.
[System Notification: Host’s action will save 1 person immediately and 659 people in 2 days. Triggering the "Selfless Savior" title. Reward: 660 bottles of Healing Potion.]
’The number in the system notification is that high.’
Nina Jacobs was almost certain now. This man was the culprit who had caused the deaths of hundreds in her past life.
The one person saved must have been Joy Thompson, who had just narrowly avoided being bitten.
"That was a close call. We almost didn’t make it."
Evan Crawford and the others were filled with relief.
That tiny Zombie Rat was too agile; they couldn’t defend against it at all.
No wonder Nina Jacobs had been so tense from the very beginning.
"That’s way scarier than a regular zombie.
But why couldn’t I sense it?"
Gabriel Leighton crouched beside the Zombie Rat’s corpse, still hung up on this question.
"Thank you so much for what you did just now. Joy is okay because of you."
Simon Coleman and Joy Thompson walked over, speaking with sincerity.
"It was nothing. You did well, too."
Nina Jacobs nodded.
The Gold Spike from earlier was Simon Coleman’s doing.
Joy Thompson grabbed Nina Jacobs’s arm and thanked her profusely again before she and the others returned to their respective rooms.
"This is for you."
Nina Jacobs breathed a sigh of relief and handed the backpack she had placed on the floor to Wayne Warner.
Wayne Warner nodded and went back to his room.
The sound of a plastic bag being unwrapped soon came from the room.
’He really didn’t get enough to eat.’
Nina Jacobs gave a helpless smile.
But her gaze shifted to the dead Zombie Rat on the floor.
She placed the Zombie Rat’s corpse into a cage and carried it back to her room.
She wanted to try out "Silent Moistening," a skill recorded in the Wood Element Skill Book.
If she failed, she would burn the Zombie Rat’s corpse with her Superpower.
Nina Jacobs selected a seed and dropped it onto the Zombie Rat’s wound.
Using her Wood Element Superpower to accelerate its growth, the seed quickly began to take root and sprout on the Zombie Rat’s body.
The Wood Element Skill Book said that the most important aspect of the Wood Element Superpower is perception.
Perceiving life.
Perceiving origin.
Perceiving the energy of all things.
Nina Jacobs closed her eyes, imagining the root system spreading infinitely along a decaying vein.
The more roots there were, the wider the area of spread became.
She discovered that this process was continuously consuming her Superpower.
She could even feel a ball of energy within her body.
That ball of energy was her very own Superpower...
The roots spread one after another until the seed’s rooting process was complete.
Nina Jacobs opened her eyes.
A sprout had begun to emerge from the Zombie Rat’s wound. Two tender green leaves looked utterly out of place against the rotting corpse.
As Nina Jacobs stopped accelerating the growth, she tried to maintain her perception of the seed.
A miraculous scene unfolded: the dead Zombie Rat actually began to twitch slightly.
At first, its movements were bizarre, with various bulges even appearing under its skin.
Nina Jacobs found it amusing and tried controlling it for a while longer, until the little rat stood up on all fours.
’Did I succeed?’
Although she was exhausted, Nina Jacobs was incredibly excited.
At the very least, she had reached the threshold of "Silent Moistening."
The little rat in the cage tried various movements, even accidentally tumbling out onto the floor.
After a long while, it finally began to move back and forth like a normal Zombie Rat, though its speed was still a bit slow.
Feeling her Superpower was almost completely depleted, Nina Jacobs finally decided to stop.
She tried to store the little rat in her system’s inventory.
Since the rat was already dead, she successfully stored it.
「Early the next morning.」
Evan Crawford and his group were up bright and early.
They had found a sturdy, high-chassis, six-seater vehicle in the auto repair shop.
"It was too much of a squeeze for Brother Wayne Warner with all of us in the back,
and besides, we might need a car for supply runs in the future. It’s not like anyone else is using this one."
Evan Crawford explained when he saw Nina Jacobs was awake.
For the rest of the journey, they could drive behind Nina Jacobs’s car.
"Yes, that’s a good car.
I imagine you’ll need one in the future."
Nina Jacobs also felt that having four extra people in her car was a bit cramped.
Wayne Warner was a big guy, so it was for the best that Evan Crawford and his group had their own vehicle.
With the new car, the four of them managed to siphon all the gasoline from the old cars at the repair shop.
Evan Crawford also found a few new walkie-talkies.
Unexpectedly, the four of them even offered to share some of the gasoline with her.
However, Nina Jacobs refused, only accepting one walkie-talkie to use on the road.
"We keep running into gas stations that are out of fuel.
Nina Jacobs, are you sure you don’t want some?"
Joy Thompson asked again.
"Yes, I have some stored up from before. I don’t need any for now."
Nina Jacobs replied.
She still had a large reserve of gasoline in her inventory—the equivalent of two full tanker trucks.
"Alright, but if you need anything, you have to tell me.
Even after we get to the sanctuary."
Joy Thompson added, still worried.
The rest of the journey was smoother than the four of them had expected; they hadn’t thought following Nina Jacobs would be so easy.
Although Nina Jacobs led them on a winding route through many back roads, it was far better than their previous travels.
"The sanctuary is just ahead! I see the sign!"
Joy Thompson pointed at a military-green sign on the road.
In fact, Nina Jacobs had already led them through a series of roadblocks and checkpoints.
But when she saw the words "Civilian Sanctuary," she still nearly burst into tears.
"No wonder there isn’t a single zombie on these roads.
Man, this is exactly what you’d expect from a place with the Drakonian army."
Evan Crawford said.
"So many people. This is definitely the sanctuary."
Gabriel Leighton’s palms were slick with sweat.
How long had it been? He hadn’t felt the presence of this many living people in ages.
"Those people over there must be the rescue team."
Simon Coleman was driving. Ahead were two groups of people in uniform, but something about the situation seemed off.
"Are they training or something?"
Evan Crawford’s interest was piqued.
"It doesn’t look like training. It looks like... they’re arguing?"
Joy Thompson wasn’t sure, but both sides looked hostile and ready to fight.
Nina Jacobs hadn’t expected to see Leo Hale, Daniel Hale, and their group right outside the sanctuary just as she returned.
And there was a sizable crowd of onlookers.
"I’ll make myself clear. If anyone here today can best Captain Grant, then I, Sheldon Holden, will no longer interfere in this matter!
Otherwise, forget about it!"
The arrogant words reached Nina Jacobs’s ears.
’Captain Grant?’
