Chapter 91: Chapter 91: It’s Actually a Man

The mention of Scott Stone sent Cole Dempsey into a rage.

"You’re asking to die!"

As a Gold Element Superpower User, he sent a Gold Spike shooting toward Nina Jacobs and her companion.

Nina tilted her head and dodged it.

Behind Cole Dempsey stood three other Superpower Users and two gunmen.

All six of them attacked at once.

BANG! BANG!

The two gunmen had just fired off two shots when a flicker of flame pierced one of them right between the eyes.

As for the two bullets, Wayne Warner had impossibly caught them with his bare hands!

BOOM!

Another sudden Fireball struck, and the second gunman screamed as he fell to the ground.

Cole Dempsey whipped his head around in shock.

’Were the Warner siblings really this strong?’

"Well now, a firefight?

You all have terrible timing. The zombies are on their way."

Just then, a voice drifted down from the hillside.

Nina narrowed her eyes, studying the person who had just arrived.

The young man before her looked exceptionally familiar.

And behind him stood several dozen more people.

When she saw how the man and the people with him were dressed, Nina was inwardly shocked.

"You’re from the sanctuary?!"

Cole Dempsey had a bad feeling about this.

They were all wearing the uniforms of the sanctuary’s rescue team. They were clearly here to ambush him.

"Easy, easy. I’m here to save you.

If I hadn’t shown up, you’d be a dead man by now."

The man turned and smiled at Nina.

"Summer, do me a favor and spare his life.

I need to take him back for questioning."

’Summer...’

"You’re Shirley Lucas?"

Nina stared at the man before her.

No wonder he looked so familiar.

Looking closely, the man bore at least a seventy percent resemblance to Shirley Lucas.

Besides, Shirley was the only one who would call her that.

Seeing him smile and nod, she finally understood why she had felt something was off about Shirley Lucas before.

’The person I knew as Shirley was actually a man.’

’And I hadn’t seen through the disguise at all...’

"What can I say? A girl’s gotta do what a girl’s gotta do to go undercover.

You have to dress the part, you know."

The voice of the female "Shirley Lucas" came out of his mouth again, and Nina didn’t know what kind of face to make.

"Who is the current captain of your sixth squad?"

Nina asked.

Just because they were in uniform, she couldn’t be certain they were actually from the sanctuary.

Shirley Lucas looked surprised, but there was also a hint of delight in his eyes.

"Summer, you even know about that?

Do you know that insufferably proud Chester Pearson?"

"You can take him.

We were only trying to save our own skins."

Now that she had confirmed his identity was likely real, Nina was eager to leave.

Cole Dempsey and his men had been captured, so there was nothing left for her to do.

Just then, everyone heard a series of explosions coming from behind them.

"Looks like we don’t have to worry about the zombies anymore,"

Nina said.

From the proud look on Shirley Lucas’s face, she could tell he had already set up an ambush for the zombies.

"You’re not going back to the sanctuary?

Once we’ve secured the supplies in there, you can come back with us."

Shirley Lucas called out to stop her.

"I still have some things to take care of. I’ll be back in a few days.

This is my friend; you can ask her if she wants to go."

Nina looked at Lily Lewis.

She could tell that Lily needed some time to rest and recover.

Just from the few steps she had run earlier, her face had already turned deathly pale.

The sanctuary was the best option.

Following Nina to kill zombies would be too dangerous for her in her current state.

Lily Lewis hesitated for a moment before nodding.

"You’ll go back too, right?"

"Yes. If you can, please do me a favor and let my family know I’m safe.

My name is Nina Jacobs."

Nina said.

Lily Lewis was taken aback for a moment, then she smiled.

"Hello, Nina Jacobs. My name is Sherry Renner.

I’ll be waiting for you at the sanctuary."

Hearing her say the name Sherry Renner with her own ears sent Nina into a momentary daze.

The memory of Sherry’s smile from her past life overlapped with the one before her now.

Nina smiled back.

"Okay."

She and Wayne Warner waved goodbye to the other two.

Shirley Lucas had clearly come prepared.

Since he could lead the sanctuary team to secure the supplies here, she wouldn’t interfere.

Giving the supplies to the sanctuary wasn’t a waste.

Nina left in Cole Dempsey’s van.

After completing their daily quota of zombie kills along the way, the two of them returned to the old house.

"Does your hand still hurt?"

Nina sat on the sofa, examining the wound on Wayne Warner’s hand.

Wayne had caught the bullets with his bare hands.

But his palm was still injured in the process.

However, she had already given him a Healing Potion on the way back, so the wound was now mostly healed.

Strength Element Superpower Users could indeed block bullets with their bare hands.

But Wayne Warner had awakened his power less than half a month ago.

With his talent, Wayne would probably need to reach the Intermediate Superpower User level to become truly impervious to blades and bullets.

At this point in time, Drakonia had not yet established a leveling system for Superpower Users.

In her past life, the power-leveling system for Superpower Users only began to emerge half a year into the apocalypse.

They were divided into Basic Level, Intermediate, and Advanced Superpower Users.

After a Basic Level Superpower user’s power reached a certain threshold, their body would undergo an advancement.

This adjustment period varied from person to person; for some it took half a day, while for others it could take two days.

After a successful advancement, they would become an Intermediate Superpower User.

A year into the apocalypse, each of these levels was further subdivided into early, mid, and late stages.

For example, an early-stage Intermediate Superpower User was no match for a late-stage Intermediate one.

In her past life, Nina had also heard of other countries having Saint Level Superpower Users, a tier that surpassed the Advanced Superpower Users.

Some even proposed that Saint Level was not the final stage of a Superpower’s evolution.

If a Saint Level evolved again, they would be called Divine Level...

But these were all just rumors, of course.

After all, back then, Advanced Superpower Users in Drakonia were few and far between.

In Nina’s opinion, Wayne’s current level was probably close to the mid-stage of a Basic Level Superpower user from her past life.

The division between early, mid, and late stages didn’t require the Superpower User to go through another formal advancement.

Some bases had tests to determine these stages, but she had never participated in one in her past life.

This was because every Superpower User’s abilities developed differently.

Nina left some food for Wayne and went upstairs.

She still had some Superpower left in her system.

She took out the Fire Element and Earth Element Skill Books and began practicing in her room, trying to adjust her control as she read.

By the time she had used up most of her Superpower, Nina was feeling exhausted.

Remembering the Wood Element Skill Book she had received after the rescue a few days ago, she took it out to have a look.

In her past life, Nina hadn’t known much about the Wood Element Superpower.

Ivan Lawson was a Wood Element Superpower User.

In her eyes, the Wood Element was no different from any other element.

It was a fifty-fifty mix of offense and defense.

But as she began reading the Wood Element Skill Book, she was rendered speechless with astonishment.

’This is the Wood Element Superpower?’

Nina muttered to herself in shock.

Aside from offense and defense, what truly blew her mind were the Wood Element Superpower’s principles of "Life Continues" and "Control."

’Sever the thread of life, or nourish it silently, creating a world of its own...’

Nina slowly recited the words in her mind.

’Is this some kind of Puppet Technique?’

She flipped further through the Skill Book and discovered that the Wood Element Skill Book had the most words out of the three she possessed.

’It’s a shame I don’t know any Wood Element Superpower Users,’

Nina thought with some regret.

’Otherwise, I’d have to test out the true potential of these skills.’

Nina went downstairs and checked the time.

It was already past two in the afternoon, but Wayne’s stomach hadn’t started protesting yet.

’Looks like he’s really full.’

"Well, let’s just have a light snack then."

They hadn’t eaten lunch, and Nina was starting to feel hungry herself.
