After I Fully Prepared for the Apocalypse, the Ungrateful Cried with Regret-Chapter 88: Lily Lewis’s Divination
"Hey, you two are really here."
A voice called out. Shirley Lucas saw the two of them and walked straight over.
"I can’t believe they actually let you two out."
"Yeah, it was all a misunderstanding."
Nina Jacobs didn’t know how to explain.
That woman, Miss Quincy, had been kicked by Wayne Warner. She probably died on the spot.
She had only meant to teach the others a lesson.
She just hadn’t expected them to be discovered so quickly.
"A misunderstanding?"
Noticing the people around them looking over, Shirley Lucas quickly lowered her voice.
"But anyway, you two are pretty capable.
I heard Cole Dempsey is planning to take you out to look for supplies?"
Shirley Lucas leaned in and asked.
"You hear things fast,"
Nina Jacobs said, smiling at Shirley Lucas. "I also heard all the Space Superpower Users were taken in for questioning."
’Shirley Lucas is a Space Superpower User too. How did she get out so quickly?’
"I have an alibi.
Besides, I only just got here a few days ago. They know I don’t have any accomplices.
I’ve only been hanging out with you for the past couple of days.
It’s just that we hit it off so well."
Shirley Lucas sat down next to Nina Jacobs and affectionately linked her arm with Nina’s.
She was wearing light makeup today, and her nails were beautifully done. Her long hair was braided into several long pigtails that hung on either side of her face, giving her a youthful and lively look.
"Is that so?"
’Nina still felt Shirley Lucas wasn’t as simple as she seemed.’
"Last night, Scott Stone had me moving supplies.
Every day, supplies are brought in from the outside, and they always need to be moved to the warehouse.
We Space Superpower Users are basically born to be tools."
Shirley Lucas released her arm and sat back down across from Nina, a helpless look on her face.
"This place has a warehouse?"
Nina asked.
"Of course. It was probably built recently, though.
I heard that a large batch of supplies went missing here a while back.
They were meant for the initial establishment of The Alliance."
Shirley Lucas chuckled as she spoke.
"If you ask me, this place must have been targeted a long time ago.
Otherwise, why would one thing go missing today and another tomorrow?
Don’t you think?"
"I think you’re right."
Nina’s mind began to wander.
’If those truckloads of supplies she took back then were meant for the initial establishment of the Superpower User Alliance...’
’...does that mean the masterminds behind this Superpower User Alliance are Liam Grant and Renee Strong?’
"I guess they’re scared. I hear they’re preparing to move the remaining supplies out of the park now."
Shirley Lucas’s words brought Nina back to her senses. "Move them out?"
"To the headquarters, I suppose.
That’s what they said when they were moving the supplies."
Shirley Lucas gave a scornful laugh. "But it seems they don’t really trust Space Superpower Users."
There have been a few cases these past few days of Space Superpower Users loading up with supplies and then bolting.
Plus, there are a lot of incidents on the road. Once a Space Superpower User dies, all the supplies disappear along with them.
"That’s true. Moving supplies is definitely a hassle,"
Nina said.
"We Space Superpower Users have it rough.
It’s bad enough being treated like tools, but the moment something goes missing, we’re the first to be suspected.
There’s no way to clear our names. Ugh!"
Shirley Lucas’s words drew sympathy from some of the people nearby.
"It’s not a big deal, just losing a bit of gold.
What good is gold these days, anyway? Is it really worth making such a fuss?"
"Yeah, exactly. It’s not like we lost supplies. As long as there’s food to eat, we’re fine."
"I heard someone at headquarters is hoarding gold.
Probably thinking of getting rich off the apocalypse, hahaha."
"Headquarters is hoarding gold? Who did you hear that from?"
Shirley Lucas asked, turning her head.
"I forget. I think a Space Superpower User who came from headquarters mentioned it.
They’re collecting gold over there, too. If that’s not hoarding, what is?"
a man wrapped in bandages answered.
"That does seem to be the case. But in our park, gold can only be traded for instant noodles.
I don’t think gold is that useful.
It’s probably just one of the big shots’ collecting habits acting up."
someone said dismissively.
"What do you think... Summer?"
Shirley Lucas asked unexpectedly.
"Gold in a time of chaos. Someone’s probably realized its value.
But what did you just call me?"
It was the first time Nina had met someone so overly familiar.
"Summer. You can call me... Shirley?
Doesn’t that make us sound closer?"
Shirley Lucas propped her chin on her hands, her arms resting on the table. "But you have a point. Gold in a time of chaos... and these are certainly chaotic times."
"Maybe I should start hoarding some gold myself next time I come across any."
"That’s just a hypothetical.
Very few people would actually go out of their way to collect gold just to hoard it,"
Nina said.
’Unless that person knew something in advance.’
’Having been reborn, she knew the importance of gold, and of course, Liam Grant and his group would know too.’
’Combined with the truckloads of supplies from before, she strongly suspected this Superpower User Alliance was the work of Liam Grant and his people.’
’But if that were the case, there was no reason for them not to take the supplies at the docks.’
’And if they really had that kind of power, why would they all stay in the shelter?’
’All of them?’
Just then, Nina suddenly remembered something.
Ivan Lawson didn’t seem to be in the shelter.
"What are you thinking about, Summer?"
Shirley Lucas’s question broke Nina’s train of thought.
"I was just wondering how long this investigation will take."
Nina glanced at the time.
’Around now, that person should be just about ready.’
’I just don’t know if Cole Dempsey will come looking for me.’
’If I can’t get out by this evening, I’ll have to find a way to get myself and Wayne Warner out.’
But as it turned out, Cole Dempsey didn’t disappoint her.
Around noon, someone came to find her and led her to the edge of the parking lot.
"Sorry to have kept you two waiting. We’re leaving now."
Cole Dempsey looked pale and seemed very anxious.
He only managed to force a smile after seeing Summer Warner and her companion.
"About last night...
Lily Lewis? What are you doing here?"
Nina feigned surprise when she saw someone pushing Lily Lewis in a wheelchair.
"We suspect the thief has already fled.
This is Mr. Lewis. He might be able to give us a few leads."
Cole Dempsey explained.
Lily Lewis glanced at Nina and Wayne, her face devoid of any expression.
"I have used the Compass to obtain the Original Hexagram and the Changing Hexagram. The stolen item is of the Gold element. The hexagram is the Earth Hexagram, which governs the Southwest. Search in the southwest direction, and you will surely find what was lost."
"Southwest? Could it be someone from the shelter?"
Scott Stone said, standing beside Cole Dempsey.
"The southwest is a huge area. Can’t you be more precise?"
Seeing Lily Lewis’s cold attitude, Cole Dempsey quickly promised:
"Don’t worry, Mr. Lewis. If we can successfully retrieve the stolen items this time,
you can ask for anything you want afterward."
"You’d better remember what you said today,"
Lily Lewis said coldly.
"I just want to leave this place. If you don’t let me go after we find it today, I will never perform another divination again!"
"Don’t worry, don’t worry, Master.
If we find it today, we’ll definitely prepare a car and supplies for you and have someone escort you away,"
Scott Stone said hurriedly.
"You think you can survive out there in your condition?
You’d be better off staying here."
Nina said, deliberately teasing her.
"What’s it to you?"
Seeing that the two were about to start arguing again, an irritated Cole Dempsey stopped them both:
"First, we find the item. Then, we look for supplies.
Let’s get going as soon as possible."
