Chapter 85: Chapter 85: Shirley Lucas

Although not every prediction was accurate, it still led The Alliance to a good amount of supplies.

A few of The Alliance’s managers even gave her a warm welcome.

They even threw a celebration banquet in her honor.

But as time went on, Lily Lewis discovered the management was nothing but a bunch of crooks, so she decided to leave.

After a struggle and some failed negotiations...

her legs were broken.

"Tell me, isn’t that infuriating?"

Lily Lewis slammed a hand on her wheelchair, finishing her story through gritted teeth.

"When I see that bastard Cole Dempsey, I’ll make sure he gets a taste of my gut-wrenching talisman water."

"You didn’t have a Superpower before?"

Nina Jacobs asked after listening.

"No. If I had a Superpower, I wouldn’t have needed to seek refuge here." 𝓯𝓻𝓮𝙚𝙬𝓮𝙗𝒏𝙤𝒗𝙚𝙡.𝒄𝒐𝓶

Lily Lewis said, looking down at her hands.

She never expected to awaken a Water Element Superpower.

After her legs were broken, she came down with a high fever, but no one cared whether she lived or died. Driven by an extreme thirst, she awakened her Water Element Superpower just as she was on the verge of death.

"Then it was a blessing in disguise for you."

Nina Jacobs glanced at Lily Lewis’s legs.

When a person awakens a Superpower, their body recovers to its peak condition.

Lily Lewis’s legs were probably just an act.

But she didn’t call her out on it.

Just then, a familiar, deep RUMBLE came from Wayne Warner, who was sitting beside them.

Nina Jacobs checked the time. She had gotten used to this after spending the last few days with Wayne Warner.

Hearing Wayne Warner’s stomach growl, she suddenly felt hungry herself.

"It’s six o’clock. Want to go out and get something to eat?"

She had plenty of food in her storage space, but she was curious to see what a post-apocalyptic buffet was like.

Besides, they were already here. It would be a waste not to eat.

But Lily Lewis refused her offer.

"I have too many enemies here. If I actually went, I doubt anyone would let me eat in peace."

Lily Lewis said with a nonchalant air.

’I’ve beaten up so many Superpower Users. They must all still hold a grudge against me.’

"I heard Dempsey is coming tonight."

Nina Jacobs said before heading out.

"Push me out there. Tonight, either he dies or I do."

Lily Lewis flew into a rage at her words, even struggling to get to her feet.

"You want revenge looking like that? Just forget it."

With that, Nina Jacobs took Wayne Warner and headed toward the cafe.

"If the food here is bad, we’ll just have another meal when we get back."

Nina Jacobs didn’t actually have high hopes for this so-called buffet.

But when they arrived, she found it was actually quite good.

While most of it consisted of staple foods, there was also a decent amount of meat, as well as some desserts and drinks.

"The teams that went out for supplies today... only a few people came back. It’s awful!"

"This is nothing. The other day, not a single person made it back."

"Isn’t that better? Fewer people to fight us for food."

"I heard Dempsey is coming personally tonight to give us a pep talk. He’s even promoting someone to a position at headquarters."

"For real? Is headquarters huge? I really hope I get to see it one day..."

Nina Jacobs listened to the surrounding chatter as she ate.

’It seems the casualty rate for Superpower Users in the Superpower User Alliance is pretty high.’

Just then, however, she noticed a few people being beaten and thrown out.

"Get out! You’re not a Superpower User, and you think you can sneak in here to eat?"

the waiter who was hitting them cursed.

"So you two really came."

Shirley Lucas said, walking over with her plate after spotting the pair in the corner.

"What’s going on over there?"

Nina Jacobs asked, pointing to the people who had been kicked out.

"They’re family members of Superpower Users, people without Superpowers. The rule here is that only Superpower Users are allowed to dine."

"The waiters are here to stop regular people from sneaking in, and also to keep an eye on Space Superpower Users trying to steal food and hide it in their dimensions."

Shirley Lucas took a large bite of ham from her plate and continued:

"On days when the park has a buffet, they don’t provide the three regular meals. Superpower Users can exchange points for food, but normal people don’t have any points."

"Doesn’t their family do anything about it?"

Nina Jacobs noticed that no one was stepping in to help them.

"Family? They’re probably dead. A lot of Superpower Users die here every day. Once that happens, their families lose all protection."

Shirley Lucas had been focused on eating, but she was soon surprised to discover Wayne Warner’s impressive appetite.

There was already a stack of seven or eight plates in front of Wayne Warner.

He would finish a plate at lightning speed, then get up to fill another one.

"Your brother... eats an insane amount."

Shirley Lucas said bluntly.

"Yeah, he does have a bit of a big appetite."

"By the way, did the person in Room 78 give you any trouble?"

Shirley Lucas asked curiously.

"We got into a fight. She’s not exactly easy to get along with."

Nina Jacobs said with feigned helplessness.

"Then you two must be pretty strong. Oh right, I haven’t asked what your Superpowers are. I have a Space Element Superpower. It’s the most sought-after one here."

A smug look appeared on Shirley Lucas’s face.

"I’m Fire Element, and my brother is Strength Element."

"Oh, a Strength Element Superpower User. No wonder he eats so much. But I’ve never seen a Strength Element Superpower User who could eat as much as him."

Shirley Lucas quickly finished the food on her plate and got up to get some more.

"You two should eat faster, too. The real mealtime is less than forty minutes."

Shirley Lucas said in a low voice.

"Isn’t it two hours?"

Nina Jacobs remembered the welcome sign at the registration office had the words "Weekly Two-Hour Buffet" on it.

"That’s right, but the rest of the time is for the mobilization meeting. A representative will get up there and give a speech or something."

"You should eat as much as you can. The supplies here are all paid for with the lives of Superpower Users."

Shirley Lucas let out a cynical smile.

"It’s fine, forty minutes is enough."

Nina Jacobs checked the time. They had only been eating for a little over ten minutes.

Wayne Warner had already devoured nearly ten plates of food.

Shirley Lucas stopped talking and focused on getting more food.

Once Nina Jacobs felt full, she got up and started helping Wayne Warner by clearing his plates and getting him food.

However, many of the food trays were already empty.

Fortunately, Wayne Warner wasn’t a picky eater.

This continued until a group of people walked in from outside.

Followed by a tall man who entered.

He looked to be in his thirties, the hair on his head slicked back neatly. After scanning the room, he waved to the surrounding waiters.

The waiters began to quickly clear the area.

The tall man’s eyes showed a hint of surprise when he saw the food carts being wheeled away.

The carts were piled high with empty plates.

Much of the food was gone.

"There’s usually a lot of food left over. Your brother did a great job this time."

Shirley Lucas gave Wayne Warner a thumbs-up.

’He’s a bottomless pit.’

"Good evening, everyone. You’ve all worked hard these past few days. Thank you for your contributions to our beautiful home..."

The tall man on the stage began his speech.

"Well, here comes the most boring part."

Shirley Lucas grumbled under her breath.

"Who is he?"

Nina Jacobs asked. ’Could that be Cole Dempsey?’

"Scott Stone. He’s in charge here when Cole Dempsey is away. They say he’s a Superpower User, but no one has ever seen him use a Superpower."

Shirley Lucas yawned.

The Superpower Users in the hall were quickly gathered into the seats in the middle.

"Let’s give a grand commendation to the Superpower Users who brought supplies to our park during this period. They are..."

The Superpower Users whose names were called went up on stage.

Scott Stone began to award them with certificates of honor.

"This really is boring."

Nina Jacobs couldn’t agree more.

"They used to give everyone a Gold Coin from the Goldsmith’s Shop, but not anymore. Then again, Gold Coins aren’t really useful for anything."

Shirley Lucas pouted.

Other than points, nothing is really useful here.

"What’s the Goldsmith’s Shop?"

Nina Jacobs’s interest was piqued.
