Chapter 74: Chapter 74: Superpower User Alliance

"Nina, ask them where they’re from."

Myra Lawson whispered from the back seat.

Nina nodded. She was curious about these people, too.

"Your offer is quite good,"

"but it doesn’t say where."

The so-called recruitment flyer only listed the compensation.

Free room and board with three meals a day, and even a weekly buffet.

And any Superpower User, male or female, was eligible for those benefits with no strings attached.

"This is a legitimate recruitment effort. The location is guaranteed to be the safest in the city,"

"if you’re interested, just hop in the car now, and we’ll take you over there."

The man seemed incredibly enthusiastic, yet he consistently avoided Nina’s question.

"Sorry, we can’t go."

Seeing this, Nina had no intention of arguing with the man any further.

"If you have some concerns, just tell us what they are."

"We even allow you to bring family. Each Superpower User has a slot for one dependent,"

"and it doesn’t matter if the dependent has no Superpower,"

the man said.

"Yeah, miss. Where else are you going to find an offer this good?"

"We were in a shelter before. The food was bad, we couldn’t sleep well, and Superpower Users didn’t get any special treatment. It’s nothing like living the good life here."

Two other men stood behind him, and they, along with the woman who had knocked on the car window earlier, chimed in to persuade her.

"What’s the job description?"

Nina asked.

’What’s their objective, recruiting Superpower Users at any cost?’

"You don’t have to do a thing."

"We even provide Crystal Cores for you to use. You know what Crystal Cores are, don’t you?"

"They’re the things inside zombies’ heads—super useful!"

The first man continued his spiel, his face growing smug.

"Oh. We’re not going."

Nina’s answer nearly made the man choke.

"So all that talking was for nothing?"

"Then why did you ask so many questions?"

A bald man next to them was clearly getting angry.

He pointed a finger at Nina and spat out a few vicious curses.

Leo Hale grew furious and almost got out of the car to fight them.

"Did I give you permission to speak?"

Nina held Leo back.

’Even if we’re going to fight, we have to wait for them to show their hand first.’

"You little bitch,"

"get down here if you have the guts!"

the bald man roared, rolling up his sleeves.

When Nina simply closed the remaining crack in the window, the men were furious but powerless to do anything.

So, they stood off to the side and started discussing something.

"Looks like these guys won’t give up until they get what they want."

Myra could tell Nina was deliberately provoking them.

The other group was doing the same; seeing that they wouldn’t get out of the car, they were now plotting something new.

"Yeah. That woman doesn’t have any real say,"

"her only purpose was to get us out of the car."

Nina said.

When that woman had knocked on the car window, Nina had seen the bruises under her sleeve. They weren’t old injuries; they looked fresh.

She had even waited for another man to glare at her before speaking those words of persuasion.

The men continued their discussion, occasionally turning to look at Nina’s car.

Nina glanced at her "Five Senses Enhancement" ability; it would be another hour before she could use it again.

Otherwise, she’d be listening in to hear what they were planning.

"They’re getting in their car?"

"Are they leaving?"

Seeing the men get into their vehicle, Chelsea Walsh couldn’t help but breathe a sigh of relief.

The next second, however, Nina started their vehicle.

Before Chelsea could even realize what was happening, the vehicle across from them, which was larger than their own, came ramming toward them!

"Hold on tight."

At the same time, Nina slammed on the gas. The driver of the other vehicle, apparently not expecting such a quick reaction, nearly crashed into a planter in the parking lot.

"What the hell? So if they can’t recruit people, they just kill them?"

Leo Hale was furious.

If a vehicle that big rammed them, their own car would definitely flip over, no matter how sturdy it was.

But the other vehicle refused to give up. Someone even stuck a gun out of the window.

A gunshot rang out, striking the body of Nina’s vehicle. Fortunately, the armored car was bulletproof.

"They’re aiming for the tires!"

Myra Lawson quickly warned.

"I know."

Nina calmly turned the steering wheel, her driving completely unpredictable.

After several more shots went wide, the other vehicle once again tried to ram them!

This time, however, Nina opened her window and stopped the car.

Just as Myra Lawson was about to speak, she saw several Fireballs shoot outside.

"Using a Superpower from this far away is probably useless,"

"and besides..."

Myra Lawson felt relieved when Nina finally started the car again.

For a moment, she’d thought Nina had been scared stiff.

"Mom, don’t worry."

Ian Chandler, in contrast, was even calmer than Myra Lawson.

"But..."

Their vehicle suddenly lurched backward, and the two cars scraped past each other as they sped in opposite directions.

The bald man in the driver’s seat distinctly saw Nina flash him a contemptuous smile. 𝘧𝓇𝑒𝑒𝑤ℯ𝑏𝓃𝘰𝑣ℯ𝘭.𝘤ℴ𝘮

There was a loud BOOM.

The area beneath the heavy truck’s wheels suddenly burst into flames!

The flames leaped upward, instantly engulfing several of the tires.

Myra Lawson finally understood. Nina’s Fireballs hadn’t been an attack—they were a trap.

’But how did she use her Fire Element Superpower to ignite the truck from a distance?’

Suddenly, there was the sound of a massive crash.

Perhaps because it was damaged and malfunctioning, the heavy truck crashed with a loud BANG into a low wall not far away.

The thick, rolling smoke from the fire looked terrifying, but Nina had actually only burned the truck’s tires.

"I’ll go with you."

Seeing Nina about to get out of the car, Leo Hale hurried to join her.

Wayne Warner and Myra Lawson’s group followed suit.

"Stay on your guard, they have weapons."

Nina warned.

"Hah! Weapons?"

"I think right now they’re more worried about saving their own asses."

Despite his words, Leo Hale still used his Gold Element Superpower to control a piece of scrap metal from the roadside, raising it as a shield in front of the group.

Just then, the people from the truck scrambled out in a panic.

"How about it? Still want to pull a fast one on us?"

Leo Hale walked to the front, looking at them with an amused expression.

"Talk. What is it you really want?"

A Lightning Ball was already crackling in Chelsea Walsh’s hand.

"We really were just recruiting people,"

"it’s just that Garcia got angry and wanted to teach you a lesson."

The man in the shirt who had been trying to persuade Nina quickly explained, waving his hands.

"Teach us a lesson?"

"It looked more like you were trying to kill us."

Myra Lawson was furious as well.

If their vehicle was destroyed in a place like this, never mind the injuries they would sustain, they would be completely defenseless against zombies.

"Where’s your headquarters?"

"And who’s your leader?"

"Tell me, and I might let you go."

Nina said.

The flyer only had six words written on it: "City D Superpower User Alliance Headquarters."

What she was more concerned about was that she had never heard of this Superpower User Alliance in her past life.

Then again, it was also possible she had simply never encountered them.

"None of your damn business where our headquarters is."

"We’re not telling you today. Let’s see what you can do about it,"

the bald man said viciously.

"Chelsea."

The moment Nina spoke, Chelsea hurled an electrically charged Thunder Ball.

The bald man was instantly engulfed in lightning, and the electric shock made him scream uncontrollably.

"I’ve only ever done this to zombies before. This is my first time shocking a person,"

"I wonder if people are as easy to electrocute to death as zombies?"

Chelsea Walsh’s wondering tone horrified the bald man, who was still in agony.

"I’ll talk! I’ll talk!"

"If I tell you, you’ll really let us go?"

Seeing Chelsea turn her gaze toward him, the man in the shirt immediately caved.
