After I Fully Prepared for the Apocalypse, the Ungrateful Cried with Regret-Chapter 69: What’s the Difference Between This and a Ghost?
But she was the one who lucked out.
Nina Jacobs had originally thought she would find something in the other jewelry stores as well.
But she discovered that aside from this one, all the gold and silver jewelry in the other stores had been completely cleared out.
Three of the jewelry stores didn’t even have storerooms.
Although it was a bit of a shame, the gold she had just collected had also triggered her "Doomsday Gold Digger" title once.
And she successfully obtained one system inventory slot.
"Nina, you only picked these?"
After Ian Chandler came out, he saw that Nina Jacobs had indeed picked out several large bags of things.
They were mostly men’s and women’s pajamas and loungewear.
"Yeah, they’re for Vera Coleman and Chelsea Walsh,"
Nina Jacobs said.
There was a lot of loungewear and maternity clothes in the bags, including women’s underwear.
Vera Coleman hadn’t brought much of that kind of stuff when she left home.
And Chelsea Walsh had left without any luggage at all, let alone pajamas and underwear.
As a woman herself, she knew how important it was to have suitable clothes.
This brand in the mall was the best quality, and this was a rare opportunity.
"Since you like this stuff, Nina, I’ll just take everything here."
But Ian Chandler blushed after walking into the brand-name store.
Still, he collected all the men’s and women’s styles from the clothing racks.
"The extra can go to Holt Tate and the others,"
Ian Chandler explained.
"Take it easy, kid. You’ll run out of space soon."
Chester Pearson kept reminding him from the side.
’Why does this kid have to grab everything?’
"I have space."
Ian Chandler didn’t listen and quickly went into a brand-name sneaker store to collect everything.
Using a Space Element Superpower to store and retrieve supplies also consumed Superpower energy.
Seeing that Ian Chandler seemed a bit tired, Nina Jacobs took out a small bottle of water diluted with Superpower Enhancing Potion and handed it to him.
"Thanks, Nina. I also want to get a massage chair for my grandpa,"
he said, pointing to the massage chair specialty store across from them.
"Then get it."
Nina Jacobs knew the size of Ian Chandler’s space; it could easily hold all these things.
Chester Pearson decided to just go with it and packed up all the lighters from a brand-name lighter shop, handing them to Ian Chandler.
When the four of them passed a crepe shop, Nina Jacobs stopped in her tracks.
"What, you want a crepe now?"
Chester Pearson teased.
Nina Jacobs ignored him and led Ian Chandler into the shop’s back kitchen.
"I can’t believe there’s so much food here!"
Staring at the bags of flour and containers of cooking oil stacked neatly all the way to the ceiling, Ian Chandler was stunned.
"These sit-down restaurants usually keep a lot of stock,"
"It’s just a shame these eggs are probably no good anymore."
Nina Jacobs looked at the eggs on the shelf with a regretful expression.
"Well, look at you. How’d you even spot this?"
Chester Pearson immediately started studying the mall directory.
He had originally only planned to hit the supermarket and a few chain snack stores, but now it seemed the dine-in restaurants he’d ignored were also worth exploring.
After all, food was the most useful supply.
"Listening to Nina is always the right call."
Ian Chandler took a few sips of water and instantly felt a surge of inexhaustible energy.
Just then, Wayne Warner’s gaze snapped warily in a certain direction.
It was toward the second-floor window entrance.
The same place they had initially planned to climb in through.
From a distance, they heard a strange noise.
"No wonder they couldn’t make a sound."
Chester Pearson moved closer and saw that the chained-up zombies had all been impaled with long nails driven up from under their chins.
The nails pierced through their jaws and nasal bones, making it nearly impossible for them to open their mouths wide enough to roar.
That was why they had heard almost nothing from outside the window.
"Kill them all."
Nina Jacobs drew the Fire Roaring Blade from her back.
This was the quietest way to kill zombies and wouldn’t attract the attention of the ones downstairs.
Chester Pearson felt a pang of regret for not grabbing a weapon.
Especially after seeing Nina Jacobs slice through zombies like she was cutting watermelons.
"Can I borrow the blade for a second?"
Chester Pearson asked, not giving up.
"No."
Nina Jacobs’s answer was the same as before.
"Come on, just for a bit. You’re my master, after all."
Chester Pearson was still following close behind when Nina Jacobs, who was in front, suddenly froze in place.
Nina Jacobs noticed a wet patch on the ground ahead.
Before Chester Pearson could even ask what was wrong, Nina Jacobs fell straight back toward him!
’What?’
Chester Pearson instinctively reached out to catch her, but Nina Jacobs had already stabilized herself by planting the tip of her blade firmly on the ground behind her.
A writhing vine had appeared in mid-air.
With a flick of her other hand’s fingertips, Nina Jacobs instantly set the vine ablaze!
"Nina, watch out! It’s a Wood Element zombie!"
Ian Chandler, standing not far from the two, pointed above their heads.
A zombie was clinging to the windowsill above, holding on with several vines that grew from its body.
Nina Jacobs and Chester Pearson had already put some distance between themselves and the zombie.
A few more thin vines shot toward the pair, only to be chopped to pieces by Nina Jacobs.
"Are you scared?"
Nina Jacobs noticed Chester Pearson’s strange behavior beside her.
"Just a little... surprised."
To be precise, he was frightened in hindsight.
That zombie had actually been lying in wait for them up there!
’How is that any different from a ghost?!’
"If you’re scared, stay back."
Nina Jacobs frowned.
’Is Chester really this much of a coward?’
"Stay back...
That’s impossible."
Once he accepted the premise that mutated zombie equaled ghost, Chester Pearson actually became excited.
He conjured a Fireball and hurled it at the Wood Element zombie’s vines, which immediately burst into flames.
With a roar, the Wood Element zombie leaped down from its high perch!
"Let’s end this quick."
Nina Jacobs could sense that some of the zombies downstairs had noticed the commotion on their floor.
The Wood Element zombie conjured more vines toward them, and Wayne Warner grabbed one, yanking the creature closer.
Just as the Wood Element zombie was about to attack Wayne Warner, who was closest, Nina Jacobs swung her blade and severed both its arms.
Immediately after, a Fireball slammed into the Wood Element zombie’s head.
"Five, four, three, two..."
Chester Pearson stared intently at the struggling Wood Element zombie.
Nina Jacobs, meanwhile, pulled Wayne Warner to a safe distance.
With a SPLAT, the Wood Element zombie’s head suddenly exploded.
"So? Taking me as your apprentice isn’t a bad deal, right?"
Chester Pearson said smugly.
"..."
Nina Jacobs didn’t understand why Chester Pearson liked using such a technique.
’It’s effective, but disgusting.’
But as long as it killed zombies, it was good enough.
Besides, this was the first time Chester Pearson had killed a mutated zombie.
"Let’s go to the top floor first. We’ll start collecting supplies from the top and work our way down."
Nina Jacobs picked up the pace.
The commotion they just made had already caused some of the zombies downstairs to look up.
Some zombies stared upward with their white, pupil-less eyes and let out guttural roars.
The mall had five floors in total.
Fortunately, after the group climbed to the fifth floor, the zombies below dispersed again.
While Ian Chandler collected supplies, Chester Pearson quickly packed whatever they could grab into shopping bags or boxes for Ian to store in his space all at once.
Meanwhile, outside the mall, Leo Hale and the others were drenched in cold sweat.
Inside the mall’s glass doors, a Gold Element mutated zombie was trying to break through the glass.
"Why aren’t they out yet?"
Leo Hale looked around anxiously.
Thank goodness the rescue team members were constantly shooting the zombies drawn to the area. Otherwise, they would have been surrounded by now.
