After I Fully Prepared for the Apocalypse, the Ungrateful Cried with Regret-Chapter 198: Are There Really Heaven’s Secrets?
From the city center to the outskirts.
Many intersections had already been sealed off with thick barricades.
This was especially true for the roads on the outskirts near the shelters.
Those barricades were put up by rescue teams who had laid down their lives during the first month of the apocalypse.
The goal was to stop the massive hordes of zombies inside the city from pouring out.
But now, it looked like some of the barricades were slowly starting to fail.
Sherry Renner stared in shock at the zombies behind them, each one burned to a crisp.
And at Nina Jacobs in front of her, whose every strike took the lives of several zombies at once.
"She’s amazing!"
She had completely forgotten about killing zombies herself.
She never expected Nina Jacobs to become this powerful after just one trip to City J.
ROAR!
A few mutated zombies leaped out after dodging the Fire Arrows.
Leo Hale snapped back to reality and resumed using his Superpower to kill zombies.
A small tornado formed in mid-air and shot toward the zombies in the distance.
Chase Gallagher controlled his Wind Vortex Darts, merging them into his tornado.
Combined with the boost from his Speed Element Superpower...
...wherever it passed, the zombies’ heads were quickly churned into mincemeat.
"The rescue gun... I guess we really don’t need it,"
Sherry Renner said.
"Who the hell is she? This is... insane."
The man in the tank top, hiding off to the side, stared at the stretch of road before and behind them, which was now charred black.
"I know! Is she, she, she that Fire Element Superpower User...
You know, the one..."
His companion at his side seemed to remember something, but it had been a while, so he couldn’t recall the name.
"If we’d known they were this strong, we should’ve tried to get on their good side earlier."
The man in the tank top slapped his thigh in regret.
Forget getting on their good side. Now they had to slip away while the group wasn’t looking.
After all, they had just tried to screw them over.
But just as they were about to bolt, the rescue team arrived.
"Didn’t they not use the rescue gun? Why are they all here?"
The man in the tank top muttered.
"Someone must have reported it.
But it’s better that they’re here. Now those people definitely won’t do anything to us."
A companion behind him said.
"Good point. When the time comes, we’ll just..."
The man in the tank top started to laugh.
Nina Jacobs also heard the commotion behind them.
"The rescue team is here,"
Chase Gallagher said.
To be honest, he was a little surprised. After several days of observation, he’d discovered that the City D Rescue Team was practically an omnipotent force.
In terms of mobility and reinforcement speed, they were far better than the teams in City A.
This was probably because City D was under unified management, whereas the composition of City A’s rescue teams was far too complex...
"They were probably called in for temporary backup."
Nina Jacobs glanced over.
It was Adrian Shaw.
"Attention, personnel ahead. City D Rescue Team reinforcements have arrived. Please evacuate to a safe zone immediately."
"Attention, personnel ahead. City D Rescue Team reinforcements have arrived. Please evacuate to a safe zone immediately..."
"Come with me, let’s see what’s going on."
Adrian Shaw had also received the order last-minute while on his way back.
Someone passing by had spotted the zombie horde and reported it.
Adrian Shaw’s leg injury hadn’t fully healed yet.
But this was the best result they could achieve after several Healing Element Superpower Users had taken turns treating him.
An SUV was already blocking the middle of the road. Combined with the numerous obstacles at the intersection, they could only stop at the corner.
This happened to block their view of what was ahead.
"Supervisor Shaw, the number of zombies ahead is still increasing,
but..."
The rescue team member who had gone to scout ahead had already returned.
"But what?"
Only after climbing over layers of barricades did Adrian Shaw finally see who the survivors ahead were.
Directly in front, several Fireballs were circling back and forth in mid-air.
As the number of Fireballs grew, they shot straight down into the horde of zombies!
BOOM!
Another massive burst of flame erupted, engulfing several zombies in the inferno.
This included some mutated zombies that hadn’t managed to dodge in time.
However, it wasn’t over yet.
The Fireballs sometimes transformed into arrows, other times into Fire Blades, relentlessly reaping the zombies.
Amidst the raging flames, a figure looked somewhat familiar. And it was that very figure who was controlling the Fire Element Superpower.
"It’s her?"
Adrian Shaw never expected it to be Nina Jacobs.
"Supervisor Shaw, what do we do now?"
A subordinate at his side asked.
They had rushed over to provide emergency support, but now it seemed they weren’t needed.
"Turn off the broadcast first. They don’t need it,"
Adrian Shaw said.
However, he still ordered the Superpower team members to move forward and provide support, while the weapons team waited behind.
Adrian Shaw was also a Superpower User.
But the Superpower Users who went to help, including himself, found that there was nothing for them to do.
Fire Serpents slithering across the ground had already taken down a dozen zombies.
And just as they hit the ground, they were pierced by clusters of Flaming Arrows.
Five, ten...
It was as if there was an endless supply of arrows. As one volley extinguished, a new one would begin.
Adrian Shaw looked at Nina Jacobs, whose expression was serious.
She seemed completely oblivious to their presence.
She was just relentlessly controlling her attacks.
’Is she using these zombies for target practice?’
Not long after this thought appeared, an Earth Element mutated zombie used a Stone Shield to block the descending flames.
Immediately after, two more mutated zombies leaped out of the horde and began attacking with their Superpowers.
"Leo, Sherry, defense!
Chase, Jessica, cut off their advance!"
As soon as Nina Jacobs finished speaking, Leo Hale swiftly conjured a metal shield. 𝒇𝙧𝙚𝓮𝙬𝙚𝓫𝒏𝓸𝓿𝓮𝒍.𝓬𝙤𝓶
And Sherry Renner also conjured an Ice Shield.
At the same time, two Wind Blades wrapped in Wind Vortex Darts sliced through the lower legs of the three mutated zombies like razors.
"Now! Finish them."
Nina Jacobs didn’t make another move.
Holden Shaw’s figure, quick as lightning, had already sliced off the heads of two of the mutated zombies.
The remaining Earth Element mutated zombie had its head pierced by Leo Hale’s Gold Spike.
The entire process took less than two minutes.
But the shock it gave everyone present was no less than that of a landslide.
"Haha, awesome!"
Holden Shaw had been waiting on the sidelines for this very moment.
He could now wield two blades at the same time.
"Don’t get careless. There are still a lot more."
Nina Jacobs was intentionally training the group’s coordination.
Although this was the first time Leo Hale and Sherry Renner had cooperated with Jessica Vance and the others, their teamwork seemed to be good so far.
"Miss Jacobs, do you need help?"
Adrian Shaw finally found an opportunity to ask.
"What’s the deal with the Crystal Cores?"
Nina Jacobs asked, pointing at the ground littered with zombie fragments.
Leo Hale and the others had been killing zombies here for a long time; she didn’t want to give up the Crystal Cores.
"They’re all yours."
He hadn’t expected Nina Jacobs to be concerned about something like this.
"In that case, we’d appreciate the help,"
Nina Jacobs said.
According to her Five Senses Enhancement, there were at least two more waves of zombies coming.
Since helpers had arrived, there was no reason not to use them.
With the rescue team joining in, the group’s coordination became even more seamless.
"Miss Renner, I’ve been meaning to ask..."
It was only today that Adrian Shaw discovered that Sherry Renner could actually use an Ice Element Superpower.
He had never seen it before.
He clearly remembered that just a week ago, Sherry Renner had been a Water Element Superpower User.
"I know what you want to ask me,
but that’s a secret I can’t tell. You know how it is."
Sherry Renner said cryptically, making a zipping motion across her lips.
This, however, only made Adrian Shaw more intrigued.
"Are there really such ’secrets’ in this world?"
"Of course there are. Just because you don’t know about them doesn’t mean they don’t exist."
"What if someone could predict the future, then?"
Adrian Shaw asked, his tone probing, yet serious and earnest.
