After I Fully Prepared for the Apocalypse, the Ungrateful Cried with Regret-Chapter 187: She’s Back
"Nina, here’s the intel on Beldane Island, as well as the list of who’s going tomorrow and information on their Superpowers."
Ian Chandler brought all the firsthand information he’d gotten to Nina Jacobs.
"What’s going on here?"
Nina Jacobs pointed to a name that had been crossed out on the personnel list.
The team leader was originally Adrian Shaw, but it looked like his name had been crossed out and replaced with someone else’s.
"Adrian Shaw was originally supposed to lead the team, but it seems he suffered a minor injury and can’t go, so they made a last-minute change to an Earth Element Superpower User named Levi Stone."
Ian Chandler explained.
"I see."
But Nina Jacobs’s doubts weren’t completely dispelled.
She would’ve avoided Adrian Shaw like the plague, of course.
’But for him to back out of the Beldane Island trip at the last minute... could that really just be a coincidence?’
"I heard about that too. Something about a sex scandal, hehehe."
Leo Hale chimed in from the side.
"What sex scandal? Mr. Shaw just accidentally fell and broke a bone, that’s all."
Daniel Hale retorted irritably.
"But it’s true! It was one of Adrian Shaw’s crazy admirers who tackled him down the stairs. A lot of people saw it happen."
Leo Hale said, full of gossip.
’Tackled him down the stairs...’
Nina Jacobs found that hard to imagine.
’But Adrian Shaw’s crazy admirer... could it be Hannah Grant?’
’Now that would be interesting.’
Once she put the pieces together, Nina Jacobs wasn’t worried anymore.
「At night.」
Nina Jacobs activated "Five Senses Enhancement," skillfully locking its focus onto a specific location.
She had heard Chester Pearson mention this on the way back from City J to City D.
Liam Grant had wanted to rejoin the rescue team, but his application was ultimately rejected.
Now, he had formed his own team.
He was the captain, and Simon Abbott was the vice-captain.
She’d heard that Liam Grant trusted Simon Abbott completely.
Thanks to their great coordination, the team seemed to be developing quite well.
’Great coordination, huh?’
She thought back to what she had overheard at the Quinn Group.
Simon Abbott was secretly using Liam Grant to such an extent.
’Liam Grant probably won’t even know what killed him in the end.’
"...Still not back at this hour. He’s probably out fooling around with someone again,"
"I swear, he’s getting more and more out of line lately, doing nothing day in and day out..."
Nina Jacobs soon heard a voice dripping with resentment.
The tone was sharp and shrewish, and it sounded a lot like Mrs. Grant.
"And you, Renee! How can you not even heal an injury like this?
Not only is it taking you forever to heal it, but you also let Liam lose so much blood.
Do you have any idea how many eggs he’ll have to eat to make up for that?"
"That’s enough, Mom. Everyone’s exhausted today,
and Renee has already treated several team members. Her Superpower is running very low."
Liam Grant said.
"That’s what you always say. I’ve yet to see a day when her Superpower is ’enough’."
Mrs. Grant backed down a bit, but still grumbled with dissatisfaction.
"Could you please stop talking like that?
Everyone is already working so hard, and here you are, just sitting back and enjoying an easy life."
Renee Strong was no longer putting up with Mrs. Grant.
Listening to them argue, Liam Grant felt incredibly frustrated.
"Brother, is something really going to happen to them at Beldane Island tomorrow?
Adrian Shaw already hates my guts."
Hannah Grant asked worriedly.
Liam Grant had told her that the team going to Beldane Island would be completely wiped out, and that she had to stop Adrian Shaw from leading it.
But Adrian Shaw refused to listen to her and was determined to go no matter what.
Left with no other choice, she had pushed Adrian Shaw down the stairs.
"Don’t worry. He’ll thank you for it later."
Seeing how certain Liam Grant was, Hannah Grant finally relaxed.
"Remember, you have to get Adrian Shaw wrapped around your finger,
and cut off all contact with that other man."
Liam Grant added as a warning.
"That’s right, Hannah. Since your brother says this Adrian Shaw is destined for big things,
that means he’s bound to become a high-ranking official,
so you absolutely have to listen to your brother this time. Stop messing around with those lowlifes."
"I know, Mom.
But, Brother, I saw Nina Jacobs that night when I was with Adrian Shaw."
"What did you say?!"
Liam Grant was stunned.
At that, Simon Abbott, who had been looking over some documents at a nearby table, also lifted his head.
"Did Nina Jacobs say anything to Adrian Shaw?"
Simon Abbott asked.
"No, they don’t even know each other.
Nina Jacobs left immediately, and Adrian Shaw didn’t even glance at her."
Hannah Grant felt that both Liam Grant and Simon Abbott were overreacting.
"That’s good."
Liam Grant let out what sounded like a sigh of relief.
In his past life, Adrian Shaw had taken a liking to Nina Jacobs after she helped him.
He’d even seen Liam as a rival for her affection and had tried to kill him on several occasions.
Later, Justin Lawson had even hinted at grooming Adrian Shaw to be the next base commander.
That was why, in this life, he’d had his sister, Hannah Grant, wait ahead of time at the place where Adrian Shaw was supposed to appear.
He’d had Hannah Grant do what Nina Jacobs had done in the previous life.
However, while Adrian Shaw was grateful, he didn’t pursue Hannah Grant the way he had pursued Nina in the past life.
For a moment there, he’d almost thought Nina and Adrian were about to rekindle their fated connection from his past life.
"So, Nina Jacobs is back,"
Simon Abbott mused.
So much had happened recently that he’d almost forgotten about Nina Jacobs’s existence.
Things at the Quinn Group were a mess.
Dylan Quinn was missing, and the batch of weapons and supplies, along with the people who had gone out with him, had all vanished without a trace.
He and Tyson Hughes had specifically gone to investigate the route.
But they hadn’t found a single clue.
It was as if Dylan Quinn and his people had simply vanished into thin air.
"Yeah, she’s back."
Liam Grant found himself unconsciously recalling this same time in his past life.
By this time in his past life, their squad had already amassed a stockpile of supplies so large it was beyond an ordinary person’s imagination.
Every day brought new dangers. It was tense and thrilling.
Lately, however, he often felt exhausted.
The supplies they had previously stockpiled had either vanished or been utterly destroyed.
Now, they only dared to entrust their supplies to the few Space Superpower Users on their team.
Seeing Liam Grant like this, Renee Strong felt a sudden sense of insecurity.
Liam Grant’s expression seemed to be one of nostalgia.
She took the opportunity to sit beside him, massaging his shoulders with just the right amount of pressure.
"Liam, you shouldn’t have to worry about Hannah anymore,
and we’re going to the chemical plant to collect supplies tomorrow,
so you should get some rest tonight."
"Mm, you’re right."
Liam Grant felt a little better when Renee Strong mentioned the supplies at the abandoned chemical plant.
They had already scouted it out a few times.
The area around the abandoned chemical plant was still swarming with zombies, which meant the supplies inside were relatively safe.
But more people had been out scavenging for supplies lately, so they decided it was time to move that cache to a few of their trusted Space Superpower Users.
Hearing all this, Nina Jacobs was lying languidly on her bed.
’The supplies at the chemical plant, huh?
There certainly were a lot of them.’
’Too bad they’re already in my possession.’
She wasn’t interested in the rest of their conversation, so she simply deactivated "Five Senses Enhancement."
’The question now is when I’ll be able to upgrade.’
Nina Jacobs looked at the Experience Points displayed on her system interface.
She had earned several thousand Experience Points just from selling goods for a little over three hours.
With just a few hundred more points, her system would be ready for another upgrade.
’It seems trading supplies really is the fastest way to upgrade the system.’
Nina Jacobs took another Mystic Ice Core from her storage and began to absorb it.
The reason she spaced out her absorptions was that she had heard in her past life that it was best for a Dual Element Superpower User to wait at least half a month before absorbing a second Ice Core.
