After I Fully Prepared for the Apocalypse, the Ungrateful Cried with Regret-Chapter 119: It’s Really Him
Actually, Leo Hale hadn’t held a grudge over the incident.
This was especially true after Daniel Hale’s business grew larger. He even collaborated with Bryce Dolan’s family, and the two of them had shared meals together.
No one ever mentioned what happened back then.
Bianca White had even asked him out later to apologize, hoping the three of them could still be friends.
But he had refused.
He just never expected to run into the two of them again during the apocalypse.
"Something like that actually happened?
Why didn’t you tell me?"
Daniel Hale had absolutely no idea his son had gone through something like that.
’Is this really my impulsive son, Leo Hale, the one who can’t stand the slightest provocation?’
"There wasn’t much to say about it.
Who doesn’t have a past?"
What Leo Hale didn’t say was that the incident had a profound impact on him.
It was brought up as a joke at every class reunion, which was why all his close friends were people he’d met after entering the workforce...
A few days after returning to the shelter, both Bryce Dolan and Bianca White had come looking for him.
But he’d made excuses and avoided them every time.
"Are you afraid of them?"
Nina Jacobs asked.
"No way. Why would I be afraid of them?"
A guilty look flashed across Leo Hale’s eyes again.
"If you’re having a hard time turning them down,
next time your dad and I will say it for you."
Vera Coleman could see it too; Leo Hale was simply running from the problem.
"You don’t have to. I’ll go talk to them and make things clear myself,"
Leo Hale said.
Daniel Hale clapped Leo Hale on the shoulder. "You have to clear the air sooner or later. It’ll stop them from waiting outside our door every day."
When Nina Jacobs was heading out, she noticed Wayne Warner following her.
"You’re staying home today.
I’m just going to see a friend. I won’t be long."
Nina Jacobs said, turning around.
She had left Wayne Warner a tablet and plenty of snacks.
Wayne Warner really loved his tablet. Seeing him nod, Nina Jacobs felt relieved.
"Wait for me, I’ll be back,"
Nina Jacobs said.
Next, she needed to go to the Supply Ops Department using Claire Warner’s identity.
’I just don’t know if that man, Henry Dixon, will agree to see me.’
After using "Facial Adjustment," Nina, as Claire Warner, walked into the administration building.
Since all the departments were just temporary setups, there were no access controls separating the different areas yet.
All you had to do was register at the front desk.
"A supply trade? You came by yourself?"
A girl with a ponytail at the registration desk looked Claire Warner up and down.
She even wondered if Claire Warner was a con artist. After all, who would dare to come here to make a trade these days?
But the more she looked, the less she seemed like one.
"My dad’s still busy.
If you’re not in a hurry, I can take you over there to wait?"
The moment the girl finished speaking, she was standing right in front of Claire Warner.
"Your dad?"
Nina Jacobs instantly guessed that this girl must be the one who had gotten into a fight with Mr. and Mrs. Grant.
’She must be a Speed Element Superpower User.’
"That’s right. I’m Daisy Dixon. Come on, hurry up.
I have a lot of work to do later."
In the blink of an eye, Daisy Dixon was already down the hallway.
"Okay."
Claire Warner also quickened her pace.
Daisy Dixon led her to a very plain room. A handwritten wooden sign hung on the door.
Three words were written on the wooden sign: Supply Ops Dept.
"Don’t mind the mess. I’m juggling six different jobs here, so I’m really busy.
You can just sit here. I’ve got to get back to it."
Before she even finished her sentence, Daisy Dixon had already sped away.
’Juggling six jobs...’
’She really must be busy.’
Nina Jacobs looked at the time.
On a nearby desk were stack after stack of handwritten reports.
Nina Jacobs only took one look and was already impressed.
The reports clearly recorded the movement of every single supply item.
Everything from weapons down to a single pair of socks.
’This isn’t something I should be looking at.’
Nina Jacobs found a spot to the side and sat down.
She activated her "Five Senses Enhancement" and immediately heard a familiar voice.
It was Myra Lawson’s voice.
It sounded like a meeting.
"...Since we’ve reached an agreement, this matter is no longer up for debate.
The people of our shelter are not yours to lure away as you please."
"Since Miss Lawson insists,
it seems we have no choice but to concede.
Cole Dempsey stays, but we will be taking everyone else who is willing to return to The Alliance with us."
Another voice said.
’That voice... Is that him?’
Nina Jacobs remembered the man who had blocked her and Wayne Warner’s path the day before.
Their voices were identical.
"You can, of course, after we’ve inspected the weapons,"
Myra Lawson replied.
"However, I am curious, Mr. Hughes. Where did your group acquire so many weapons and so much equipment?"
"That’s a trade secret,"
the other party replied.
Mr. Hughes?
Nina Jacobs was surprised. ’Could the man who blocked my car really be Tyson Hughes?’
’No, that’s not right.’
She remembered Cole Dempsey saying that Tyson Hughes was a Thunder Element Superpower User.
But the man from yesterday was clearly an Earth Element Superpower User.
’Did I mishear something?’
’Or could it be that this Tyson Hughes is actually a Dual Element Superpower User?’
After a little while longer, Nina’s "Five Senses Enhancement" picked up the sound of a group of people walking.
’Looks like the meeting is over.’
"Oh, right. I’d like to ask, Miss Lawson... 𝒻𝓇𝑒𝘦𝘸𝑒𝒷𝓃ℴ𝑣𝘦𝑙.𝒸ℴ𝘮
do you know of Quinn Manor?"
The man suddenly asked.
"Quinn Manor?
I’m sorry, I’m not from around here. I’ve never been there,"
Myra Lawson replied.
"I see.
Well then, Miss Lawson, we’ll see you at the new base..."
Nina Jacobs could hear footsteps in the hallway outside the door.
The door to the Supply Ops Dept. was open.
Nina Jacobs watched the figures passing by outside the door.
Then, she saw the man.
’It really is him.’
Nina Jacobs lowered her head.
If the Superpower User Alliance really was going to merge with the base... then this man was a threat to her and Wayne Warner.
"And you are...?"
A thin, middle-aged man wearing thick glasses walked in.
Behind him were a man and a woman, their arms full of documents.
"My name is Claire Warner.
I’m a Space Superpower User, and I’m here to talk to Director Dixon about trading some supplies."
Nina wasn’t sure who he was.
"A supply trade?
I’m Henry Dixon. What do you want to trade?"
Henry Dixon eyed Nina suspiciously as he set down his documents.
His expression was identical to Daisy Dixon’s.
"I have some supplies I’d like to exchange for Crystal Cores.
I was wondering if the Supply Ops Department would be interested?"
With a wave of her hand, Nina produced a bag of rice and a bag of flour.
Some of the rice and flour had come from supermarkets, but much of it had been salvaged from grain depots that were about to be flooded by acid rain.
There was just too much in her storage space, and large, 55-pound bags of grain weren’t convenient to sell at a market stall.
It would be better to trade them directly to the shelter.
It was safer and more reliable.
SLAP.
The documents in Henry Dixon’s hand fell to the floor.
His voice trembled as he pointed at the two bags on the floor.
"Grain like this... you want to trade it for Crystal Cores?"
"That’s right."
Nina Jacobs nodded.
The man and woman behind Henry Dixon also looked astonished.
These days, grain was far more precious than Crystal Cores.
You could get Crystal Cores from killing zombies.
But it might never be possible to grow grain again.
"A price! Name your price!
We’ll take as many bags as you’ve got!"
Henry Dixon decided on the spot.
"Wait right here. I’m going to file the request right now.
Marshall, get an application form filled out for me, immediately!"
Henry Dixon grabbed the application form and rushed out in a flurry of motion.
"Miss, where did you get so much grain?"
Marshall asked curiously while picking up the documents off the floor.
"I just pick it up whenever I come across it,"
Nina Jacobs replied.
"How about you fill out this form first?
It’s for the quantity and unit price. Director Dixon should be back any minute."
