Chapter 97: Chapter 97: Wyatt Sterling’s Revenge

SLAP!

The crisp sound of a slap echoed in every corner of the room.

The very air seemed to freeze in that moment.

Mason Cheney’s brow furrowed.

Zoe Jenson, however, stared in utter shock at what had just happened. ’Say what you will, Alice is seriously brave,’ she thought. ’She actually dared to slap Wyatt Sterling!’

’It was a good slap, but the consequences of slapping Wyatt Sterling...’

The shock on Zoe Jenson’s face vanished, replaced by panic and dread.

’It’s over. It’s all over now...’

Alice York looked down at her tingling palm, then up at Wyatt Sterling. Finally, she silently hid her hand behind her back, pretending she hadn’t been the one to do it.

"Feel better?"

Wyatt Sterling’s face was unreadable.

Alice moved her other hand behind her back as well, rubbing her tingling palm and playing dumb, not answering him.

Wyatt Sterling poked the inside of his cheek with his tongue, the same one she’d just slapped, and sneered, "This side of my face just took a kick from you last night, and now a slap today. Are you getting addicted to hitting me?"

Hearing this, Alice’s first reaction was, ’I kicked this side of his face last night, too??’

Meanwhile, the previously trembling Zoe Jenson was now completely dumbfounded!

’Good heavens, just how many brave things has Alice done behind my back? Not only did she slap Wyatt Sterling, but she also kicked him in the face??’

However, what would shock Zoe even more was yet to come.

Wyatt Sterling raised a hand, tapped his other cheek, and said to Alice, "If you’re not done yet, go ahead and hit this side."

Alice’s pupils contracted.

Wyatt saw the flash of panic in her eyes. "What are you afraid of? Didn’t that slap feel good?"

Alice stammered, "It... it was because you went too far. That’s why I hit you."

Wyatt was noncommittal. "I went too far. I didn’t consider your feelings."

"..."

Alice was suddenly speechless.

In truth, she didn’t know where she had found the courage to slap Wyatt just now.

Maybe it was because he had deliberately let Zoe Jenson know about their relationship, or maybe it was because she had suppressed her feelings for too long and wanted to fight back. He never considered her feelings, always acting as he pleased and throwing her into terrible situations.

She had hit him, and she didn’t regret her impulse. She had also braced herself for his fury, but now, she couldn’t understand his attitude at all.

"Done hitting me?"

Wyatt asked her again.

Alice swallowed and shook her head. ’No more.’

"Then let’s go home."

With that, he reached out to hold her.

She instinctively resisted. "I don’t want to go back to Shorecrest tonight."

"What about West River?"

"Not there either."

"You’re staying here?" He brushed back a strand of her hair, its sweet scent clinging to his fingertips.

Alice replied softly, "I’m staying here."

She was determined not to go anywhere tonight. She would stay right here. If Wyatt Sterling decided to drag her away by force, there was nothing she could say. But if they could talk, she would stand her ground.

She didn’t expect him to actually relent. "As you wish."

Alice immediately said, "But you can’t."

His eyelids lowered, his gaze turning dark. "What did you say?"

’I’ve already slapped him,’ Alice told herself, trying not to be afraid. "You’re not allowed to spend the night here."

The atmosphere was quiet for a moment. Then, the man let out an exasperated laugh and compromised again. "I’ll listen to you."

She stared, dumbfounded.

He reached over and tucked the blanket around her. "Open the door again in half an hour. Someone’s bringing medicine."

Alice snapped back to her senses and didn’t refuse. "Okay."

He leaned over as if to ask for something more. Alice didn’t dodge in time, and he placed a kiss on her forehead. By the time she realized what had happened, Wyatt Sterling was already up and walking toward the door.

Passing by Zoe Jenson, the tall man paused and glanced sideways. "Let her go."

Mason Cheney nodded, released his hold on Zoe Jenson, and exited the bedroom.

Finally free, Zoe’s arms were incredibly sore. She grimaced while rubbing them, but one look at Wyatt Sterling’s expression and she immediately straightened her face.

"My apologies for the disturbance, Miss Jenson."

Coming from Wyatt Sterling’s mouth, the apology held not a shred of sincerity, only pure, unadulterated pressure.

Zoe Jenson slowly backed toward the bed, trying to get to Alice’s side. Wyatt stopped her. "One moment."

Zoe’s limbs stiffened.

Wyatt said, "Please take good care of Alice."

Zoe Jenson: ?

After dropping that line, Wyatt Sterling turned and left. It wasn’t until Zoe heard the front door close that she snapped back to reality—that imposing figure was really gone!

’Wait a minute,’

’Did that imposing figure just say... *please* to me?’

Zoe turned around, her face a mask of disbelief. Alice was sitting up against the headboard, looking sheepish. All of Zoe’s questions connected at once, and she exploded.

She rushed to Alice, grabbing her by the shoulders and shaking her. "Alice, what on earth have you been hiding from me?"

"Calm down first." Alice felt like she was about to be shaken unconscious.

"How can I calm down? You need to come clean, right now! What is going on between you and Wyatt Sterling?"

"He actually asked *me* to take care of you!"

"You slapped him, and not only did he not get angry, he even let you hit him again! And he was *coaxing* you?"

"And! He kissed you just now! Wyatt Sterling kissed you!"

Faced with this barrage of questions, Alice didn’t know which one to answer first. But she knew one thing for sure: she couldn’t hide it this time. There was no point in hiding it anymore.

Because Zoe Jenson had already seen everything she needed to see.

...

「Downstairs, in the Bentley.」

Ever since leaving Alice, Wyatt Sterling’s expression had turned utterly grim.

Mason Cheney pressed his earpiece, then turned to report. "Second Madam went to West River this morning, staying for close to two hours. After checking the surveillance footage with property management, she returned to the old residence. She went back to West River at four in the afternoon. Miss York got home at five. Around five-thirty, Second Madam left West River. Twenty minutes after that, Miss Alice got into Miss Jenson’s car in the underground garage and came here."

This was the detailed itinerary and timeline Mason Cheney had just obtained.

’Second Madam usually keeps a close watch on Miss Alice, and Third Master has always turned a blind eye. But this time, she escalated to physically harming Miss Alice. She’s practically digging her own grave...’

"Where did Mindy Vaughn go after leaving West River for the last time?"

Wyatt Sterling asked.

Mason Cheney: "Second Madam returned to the old residence."

A chill surfaced in Wyatt Sterling’s eyes. "Tell me, with the Sterlings feeding and housing her so well all these years, do you think her life has been too comfortable?"

Mason Cheney replied, "Second Madam truly doesn’t know what’s good for her."

He pressed a button.

The slowly rising window obscured the man’s sharp features in the dim light, hiding the gloomy, surging tide churning within the shadows.

’People who enjoy such fortunes must also be able to bear the weight of their sins.’

「The next day.」

The first thing Alice York did when she woke up was look in the mirror.

Seeing that her face had recovered overnight, she finally felt relieved. Thank goodness she wouldn’t have to go to the hospital with a thick layer of foundation on.

"Alice, I just realized that in the bag your Third Uncle had someone deliver last night, besides the medicine for the swelling, there’s also a new phone, huh?"

"I saw it last night," Alice said, walking out of the bathroom.

Zoe Jenson opened the phone box. "Look, it’s the newest model."

Alice walked over and glanced at it. Not only was it the newest model, but it was also pink—perfectly suited for a girl’s taste.

Zoe popped the phone out, then found the SIM card in Alice’s coat pocket and inserted it. She downloaded the usual apps and handed it to Alice when it was time to log in. "It’s a great phone. It’d be a waste not to take it!"

Alice couldn’t help but smile. Just as she took the phone, a call came in.

"What a coincidence. Nathan Sterling... isn’t that your ’younger brother’?" Zoe’s gaze shifted from the screen to Alice’s face.

Alice’s expression was also one of clear surprise. She’d had Nathan Sterling’s number saved for so long, but this was the first time he had ever called her.

’And it’s right at the moment my phone service is restored. It’s probably not a coincidence. He must have been calling over and over...’

Worried something had happened, Alice immediately answered, "Nathan?"

"Damn it, why couldn’t I get through to you! Why are you only answering now!"

On the other end of the line, Nathan Sterling sounded like he was about to explode with anxiety.

Alice, still unaware of what had happened, said, "My phone was having issues. It just got fixed. Is there something urgent?"

Nathan Sterling shouted through the phone, "It’s Mom! Mom was beaten by Grandpa! And they’re going to lock her up!"
