After His Sweetheart Moved In, He Came Home Every Night-Chapter 40: Wyatt Sterling Says She Is His Woman
Alice York remained calm. She didn’t believe a word Julian Dalton had said.
’Everyone knew Melody Lancaster was Wyatt Sterling’s confidante. How could she possibly be the first woman Wyatt had brought here?’
"What are you thinking about?" Wyatt Sterling asked, walking to her side.
Alice York looked up at him. "I was just wondering why Miss Lancaster isn’t here today."
Wyatt Sterling asked, "You want her to be here?"
Alice York averted her gaze and looked ahead. "Miss Lancaster is your woman, Third Uncle. I thought you’d take her with you wherever you go."
She said this in a normal tone, without any hint of suspicion or jealousy.
Wyatt Sterling said, "So are you."
Alice York didn’t register it at first. "What?"
"My woman."
Crinkles appeared at the corners of his eyes. He came over, took her hand, and led her inside as she stared in stunned silence.
The mansion had been recently renovated and showed no signs of being lived in yet. But given its location on Mount Serenity Peak, Alice York couldn’t begin to imagine how much it must have cost.
Julian Dalton came out after looking around. "So, Wyatt? Are you... satisfied...?"
Julian Dalton’s words trailed off as his gaze fell on their joined hands... or more accurately, on Wyatt Sterling forcibly holding Alice York’s hand.
"Mr. Dalton, it’s not what it looks like. I slipped just now, and Third Uncle was just helping me up..." Alice York explained to Julian Dalton while trying to pull her hand away.
"That’s enough!"
Wyatt Sterling cut off her clumsy explanation. "He knows you’re my woman." 𝒻𝘳ℯℯ𝑤ℯ𝒷𝘯ℴ𝓋ℯ𝘭.𝑐ℴ𝑚
Alice York’s expression froze.
Julian Dalton, holding back a laugh, looked completely unfazed. "Little niece, I told you earlier that you’re the first woman Wyatt has ever brought here. You definitely weren’t listening to me."
Alice York felt a little embarrassed. She really hadn’t been listening.
So far, besides Mason Cheney, no one else knew about her intimate relationship with Wyatt Sterling. She had been genuinely nervous just now.
"Come on, I’ll take you upstairs to have a look." Wyatt Sterling led her to the elevator.
Alice York was reluctant. "I don’t want to go up."
Wyatt Sterling: "Didn’t you want to overlook Washington?"
"..."
He had her with just that one sentence, because she really did want to see it.
The rooftop had a designated viewing deck, and next to it stood an astronomical telescope for observing nebulae.
It wasn’t sunset yet, so the view wasn’t at its most breathtaking, but it was still a feast for Alice York’s eyes.
Curiosity drove her to try using the telescope to see the distant scenery. After fiddling with it for a while without success, Wyatt Sterling came up from behind, his long arms encircling her. "You need to change the eyepiece for sightseeing. The high-magnification one is only for viewing at night."
With Julian Dalton standing nearby, Alice York felt particularly uncomfortable. "I don’t want to look anymore."
A smile played on Wyatt Sterling’s lips. "You can just ignore him."
Julian Dalton was cracking up nearby. "Little niece," he said between laughs, "you can just treat me like part of the scenery. No need to be so tense."
Wyatt Sterling lowered his head, his thin lips close to Alice York’s ear. "Did you hear that? Don’t treat him like a person."
Julian Dalton’s smile froze. "...I give up."
Alice York couldn’t help but crack a small smile.
Wyatt Sterling then freed a hand to change the eyepiece, attached a Baader solar filter, aimed it at the distant sea, and refocused.
Once it was ready, his hand came to rest on her waist, giving it a light pat. "Try it."
Alice York took a look, and Wyatt Sterling leaned in to ask her, "Can you see the boats on the water?"
"Yes."
Her expression grew visibly excited.
Since she couldn’t move it around much and could only observe in one fixed direction, Wyatt Sterling asked what else she saw besides the boats. Alice York replied, "There are people on a boat."
"How many?"
"There are... two people."
"Men or women?"
Alice York suddenly jerked back, her head bumping against Wyatt Sterling’s hard chest. She winced with a hiss. Wyatt raised a hand, his palm cupping the back of her head. "Does it hurt?"
His tenderness was so unexpected it made Alice York feel as if she were dreaming.
"I’m okay, it doesn’t hurt that much," she said.
Wyatt Sterling withdrew his hand. "What did you see just now? You reacted so strongly."
"Nothing." She was slightly embarrassed, the tips of her ears turning red.
Wyatt Sterling sensed something was off and reached for the telescope. "Let me see."
Alice York stopped him. "Don’t look."
Wyatt Sterling raised an eyebrow. "The more you act like this, the more I want to know what you saw."
Now, not just her ears, but her whole face grew hot. She stammered, "It’s, it’s a man and a woman, in a rather... intense situation!"
Her luck was unbelievable. She had just wanted to look at the seascape but ended up accidentally seeing a couple on a boat deck—in high definition, no less!
Wyatt Sterling let out a deep, long laugh. "How romantic."
Alice York looked at him, completely unable to accept it. "You call that romantic?"
He didn’t answer. Leaning down slightly, his gaze traced her features, inch by inch, before he kissed her brow. She tried to pull back, but he gripped her waist, forcefully pulling her closer. His palm moved up, kneading her back with a pressure that was neither too heavy nor too light.
A tingling numbness spread through her, and Alice York squirmed under his touch.
Before she could get away, she heard his voice. "We should try that on the sea someday, too."
Alice York’s face turned completely red. "Who wants to try that with you on the sea!"
She pushed him, but his body was like a mountain before her, unmoving. The thought that Julian Dalton was still nearby made her want to die of embarrassment.
"Third Uncle..."
She surrendered, begging for mercy.
"The extra person left a long time ago. It’s just the two of us here, what are you afraid of?" Wyatt Sterling nibbled on her earlobe. A heat surged through him, and his palms grew hot.
Alice York turned to look, but Julian Dalton was nowhere to be seen. He had slipped away at some point without a sound!
With no one watching, her sense of shame subsided slightly. Just then, she felt a cool draft followed by a searing heat under the hem of her shirt—Wyatt Sterling’s hand had slipped inside.
The cool air and the heat of his palm were an alternating torment. Alice York pressed down on his hand. "Third Uncle, don’t..."
Wyatt Sterling met her moist, almond-shaped eyes. Each blink seemed to tug at his very soul. He lowered his head and gently bit her neck, leaving a red mark on her fair skin. He found a moment to ask, "How many more days?"
Alice York knew what he was asking. "Today is only the third day," she replied.
Her period was usually regular, lasting five to six days, but it was unpredictable when it became irregular. This time, it was irregular, having been delayed by more than ten days.
They both cooled down. Alice York’s cheeks were still a little flushed. She looked at the man’s cool and self-possessed demeanor, as if he were a completely different person from the passionate man moments ago.
Alice York leaned into his embrace on her own accord. "Third Uncle, I’ve convinced myself to understand that you only made me go on a date with Kyle Churchill for the sake of the bigger picture."
Wyatt Sterling held her but said nothing.
What Alice York didn’t say was that before coming to the peak with him, her heart had been full of resentment. She resented him for being so heartless.
But he had just shown her so much tenderness, enough to make her abandon her principles in an instant. Her resentment dissipated just like that, and she even convinced herself to understand him.
She looked up. "Actually, I wasn’t happy at all going out with Kyle Churchill today. I don’t want to go out with him again tomorrow."
After speaking, Alice York looked at him with great expectation, thinking he would agree.
’Wasn’t once enough for the sake of the bigger picture?’
But Wyatt Sterling released her waist, his expression turning cold as he said, "I think Kyle Churchill likes you quite a bit."
Alice York looked at him, confused.
Wyatt Sterling said, "Give him a chance."
Her mind went blank. "...What kind of chance?"
Wyatt Sterling: "A chance to date you."
