Chapter 195: Chapter 195: A Feast for the Eyes

"Mr. Dalton, I know you’re wealthy and handsome. You can just stand there, wave your hand, and countless women will flock to you. But I’m not that kind of woman."

The sound of the rain nearly drowned out Seraphina Sheridan’s voice.

Julian Dalton could barely make out her words. "That kind?"

"The kind who’d jump at the chance to be a stepmother."

After saying this, as if she had made some sort of decision, Seraphina turned and plunged into the downpour, letting the heavy rain soak her through without a single look back.

Julian Dalton stood silently for a moment before finally walking over and pulling Seraphina back. "Are you crazy?"

’Such a heavy downpour!’

"You had your own umbrella but insisted on snatching mine. Now I’m soaked, and isn’t it your fault? You’re the one who’s crazy."

Seraphina finished speaking and wiped the rain from her face. Her eyelashes were so long they were obstructing her vision.

Julian Dalton suddenly averted his gaze. "You’re soaked through."

Seraphina froze when she heard that, then looked down at her clothes. The outline of her underwear was completely visible now that she was wet. She was well-endowed, and standing there so drenched, the sight was downright seductive.

Seraphina’s cheeks instantly burned hot.

She raised her hands to cover her chest, warning him, "Don’t look."

"Nothing to see."

Though that’s what Julian Dalton said, his mind was filled with the image he had just accidentally seen. His expression gradually became unnatural.

He handed the umbrella to Seraphina. "Here, hold this."

Seraphina paused, reaching out to take it. "Can I...?"

"If you want to walk out looking like that, be my guest. I won’t stop you," Julian Dalton said as he took off his jacket.

The next second, a damp jacket was draped over Seraphina’s head. Just as she pulled it off, she heard him say, "Put it on and cover yourself."

’His tone actually softened...’

Seraphina didn’t argue. After all, she had no idea how many strange looks she would attract if she walked out like this.

"Yael is my only daughter. I treasure her, and I’d give her anything she wants."

Julian Dalton dropped his initial aggressive demeanor, his tone becoming much gentler. "She’s crying and screaming for you, and I can’t calm her down. If you’re still angry about my attitude before, I’ll apologize to you now."

After speaking, Julian Dalton watched her quietly, no longer making any physical moves, patiently waiting for her response.

Seraphina pulled the jacket tighter around herself. Even though it was damp, it was enough to cover the embarrassing situation.

Seeing he had changed his forceful approach, she was silent for a moment before finally relenting. "I can only agree to go back and spend some time with Yael to formally say goodbye. As for a long-term position, I won’t consider it."

"Fine."

As soon as he said it, Julian Dalton put an arm around Seraphina’s shoulder and guided her back the way they came.

Seraphina looked at the hand on her arm. "You—!"

"If we don’t stay close, we’ll both just get wetter." He looked at her, his expression impassive, his eyes betraying no hint of romance.

Seraphina had no choice but to endure it.

She could have easily pushed him away right then, clutched his jacket, and run off into the rain. But the moment she thought of Yael, her heart uncontrollably softened.

「Back at Shorecrest.」

Julian Dalton tossed the umbrella aside but didn’t let go of Seraphina. He called for a maid, "Prepare hot water in the guest bathroom."

The maid was very surprised to see the two of them return soaking wet.

"Are you just going to stand there? Don’t want your job anymore?" Julian Dalton’s tone grew sharp.

"I’ll go right away." The maid quickly turned to do as she was told.

The floor was covered in dripping water. The walk back had left Seraphina feeling a bit hot and stuffy, and she wanted to take off the jacket, but Julian Dalton’s hand never left her shoulder.

"Mr. Dalton, are you that worried I’ll run off again?" Seraphina shrugged her arm.

Julian Dalton glanced at her before finally releasing his grip. "Go to the guest room."

Seraphina replied, "I should just go to the nanny’s room. The bathroom there is fully equipped, and that’s where I’ve been staying these past few days."

Julian Dalton said, "Go to the guest room."

Seraphina wanted to insist. She didn’t want to use the master’s guest room; it was a matter of professional boundaries. But Julian Dalton said, "The nanny’s room is too small. Yael will come looking for you, so it’s not suitable."

’So he was just thinking about his daughter.’

’In that case, I won’t be polite.’

The guest bathroom had a separate wet and dry area. The bathtub was already filled with water at the perfect temperature, but Seraphina didn’t use it. Taking a bath was too time-consuming; a quick shower would be enough for her.

Just as she took off her clothes, she heard a knock on the door and nervously covered herself. "Who is it?"

"Auntie Seraphina, it’s me, Yael~"

Hearing that sweet, child-like voice, Seraphina finally relaxed her guard. She remembered Julian Dalton’s reasoning—of course Yael would come looking for her as soon as she knew she was back. And sure enough, she had arrived so quickly.

"Yael, I’m taking a shower. I’ll be out soon."

"Auntie Seraphina, I want to come in," Yael whined, clawing at the door.

The shower started, its rushing sound mingling with Seraphina’s voice: "I’ll be done soon. Just wait a few minutes for me."

Yael was tall enough to reach the doorknob, but she had to stand on her tiptoes to press it down.

She didn’t want to wait another second. The moment she knew Auntie Seraphina was here, she had come flying over. She wanted to see Auntie Seraphina right away; she wanted a hug.

So, Yael strained to get on her tiptoes. Once both her hands gripped the handle, she hung her full weight on it, and the door swung open.

’Yay, it’s open.’

Seraphina wasn’t too surprised to see Yael come in. In the days she’d been taking care of her, Yael had become very clingy.

"Stay outside the glass, don’t come in. The water will get you wet."

"Mhm~" As soon as she saw Seraphina, Yael immediately became obedient.

Seraphina had no inhibitions in front of the little girl and showered openly.

Julian Dalton didn’t shower; he just changed his clothes and came out. He went downstairs to look for Yael and learned from a maid that she had gone to Seraphina’s room. He followed, and seeing the door was ajar, he stood at the entrance and called, "Yael?"

There was no answer. 𝒇𝒓𝙚𝒆𝔀𝓮𝓫𝒏𝓸𝙫𝓮𝓵.𝓬𝙤𝙢

After calling twice without hearing his daughter’s reply, Julian Dalton walked straight in.

He scanned the room, his gaze finally landing on the open bathroom door. Logically, Seraphina should be showering right now, yet the bathroom door was open.

’Did she finish that quickly and leave?’

’Don’t tell me she ran off.’

The thought of Seraphina actually running away made Julian Dalton’s face darken. He was just turning to go find her when a sudden scream came from the bathroom.

"AHH—"

Julian Dalton instinctively rushed in.

When he reached the doorway, reason quickly stopped him in his tracks. He averted his face. "Seraphina, are you in there?"

PATTER PATTER PATTER. The sound of small footsteps was heard.

Julian Dalton heard Yael’s anxious voice. "Auntie Seraphina fell down."

Julian Dalton raised an eyebrow. "She fell?"

Yael tugged on Julian Dalton’s pinky finger. "Daddy, Auntie Seraphina fell! She fell because I kept pestering her for a hug."

"Are you okay?" No matter how his daughter pulled, Julian Dalton remained rooted to the spot.

Yael shook her head. "No, no, I’m fine! Hurry and check on Auntie Seraphina, she’s in a lot of pain!"
