Chapter 171: Chapter 171: Threatening Wyatt Sterling, He’s So Daring

"Nathan Sterling, you—!"

Rhea Sterling fumed, pointing at Nathan Sterling’s retreating back. Before she could lose her temper, Kenneth Shaw, who was beside her, pulled her hand back. "Alright, don’t squabble with him like a child."

"That brat is so spoiled at home he’s completely lawless. He looks down on everyone, especially Ali—" Halfway through her sentence, Rhea Sterling seemed to finally notice Alice York was there too.

Her expression turned awkward for a few seconds. Then, she immediately let go of Kenneth Shaw’s hand and walked toward Alice York.

"Alice, your gloves are so pretty. They go perfectly with your outfit." Rhea Sterling proactively linked her arm with Alice York’s.

Alice York said, "I just threw them on."

Rhea Sterling reached out to touch Alice York’s gloves, but Alice dodged her. Rhea froze for a moment. She didn’t try to touch Alice’s hand again, instead changing the subject. "Alice, are you also going to Arden for fun this time?"

Alice York kept her expression perfectly composed. "Yes."

Rhea Sterling immediately said, "So are Kenneth and I! He’s been so busy lately and hasn’t had any time for me. It’s rare that he could finally free up some time to travel with me."

Alice York said, "Then you two should have a great time. Have all the fun you can."

"Mhm, that’s what I’m thinking, too. As long as a certain someone doesn’t ruin my fun." As she spoke, Rhea Sterling glanced at the man opposite her with a mischievous smile.

Kenneth Shaw walked over. His gaze fell on Alice York for a moment, but he didn’t scrutinize her. "Rhea, this is Alice York, right?"

Alice York gave him a slight nod as a greeting.

Rhea Sterling nodded too. "Yup. It’s Alice York. You met her at the family banquet before. Do you not remember very well? Should I give you a formal introduction?"

Kenneth Shaw chuckled. "Is my memory really that bad in your eyes?"

Rhea Sterling cooed, "Oh, please. Your memory is the best!"

"Flatterer." Kenneth Shaw turned to leave. "I’m going to the waiting lounge to keep Grandpa company. You two sisters can take your time and chat."

"Okay."

Once Kenneth Shaw had left, Rhea Sterling tightened her hold on Alice York’s arm. "Are you going to Arden on some kind of mission?"

Alice York walked slowly, masking her expression well. "Nathan wanted to go have fun, but Mother was too busy, so she asked me to go with him and keep an eye on him."

Clearly, Rhea Sterling didn’t believe this explanation.

She lightly bumped Alice York’s arm. "I heard Grandpa spoke with you last night. Was it about your trip to Arden?"

Alice York stopped walking and turned to look at Rhea Sterling from the side.

Her gaze was placid and calm, yet it made Rhea Sterling’s heart jump for a few seconds, as if it carried an invisible pressure.

Her next words were meant to smooth things over. "Alright, alright, I won’t ask anymore. The mission Grandpa gave you must be important and can’t be easily revealed."

Alice York just smiled, averted her gaze, and said nothing more.

After arriving in Arden, Alice York’s group went with Old Master Sterling to the Sawyer Family’s home. Rhea Sterling was there specifically for a vacation and had booked a separate hotel, so they parted ways for the time being.

Just as they were about to get in the car, Simon Sterling instructed Rhea Sterling, "It’s rare for you two to go out together, so have fun. Also, you both need to make time to visit the Sawyer Family, or your grandmother will be upset when she finds out."

Rhea Sterling agreed. "I know, Grandpa. Kenneth and I will go to the Sawyer Family’s home. How could I not understand such basic etiquette? Don’t worry."

After speaking, Rhea Sterling happily got into another car with her fiancé, arm in arm.

"That child, she really hasn’t grown up at all," Simon Sterling remarked with a laugh. "And she’s talking about getting married at the end of the year. She’s so childish. It’s a good thing Kenneth dotes on her and indulges her."

Alice York just listened without chiming in.

’She recalled the gossip she’d heard from Zoe Jenson, and the affection Rhea Sterling had just deliberately flaunted... That end-of-year wedding date will probably change.’

...

The Sawyer Family’s mansion was located in Arden’s most famous area, the Aethel District.

While not on par with the preeminent Hawthorne Family, they were still considered one of Arden’s top wealthy families.

In the early years, the Sawyer Family wasn’t well-known in Arden. To establish a foothold, they sought the Hawthorne Family’s protection and worked exclusively for them for many years, which is how they secured their current standing.

By the time they arrived at the Sawyer residence, Nathan Sterling was already asleep in the car.

As they got out of the car, Simon Sterling instructed Alice York, "You stay with Nathan and wait for him to wake up."

That was exactly what Alice York wanted, and she immediately agreed.

The accompanying bodyguard lifted Nathan Sterling out of the car. Nathan lay slumped over the bodyguard’s shoulder, looking sound asleep with no sign of waking.

A servant led the way. Alice York followed quietly until they reached a room, where the bodyguard carefully placed Nathan Sterling on the bed.

"You can go. I’ll take it from here," Alice York said, stepping forward.

The bodyguard nodded and left the room.

As the door closed, Alice York stood by the bed, silently eyeing Nathan Sterling’s sleeping act. After a moment, she spoke. "No one’s here now."

Nathan Sterling opened his eyes and sat up.

Alice York said, "You knew I didn’t want to deal with those people, so you pretended to be asleep to let me hide out in here and have some peace. Thank you."

Nathan Sterling rolled his eyes at Alice York. "What’s it got to do with me? I just woke up."

Alice York sat down on the sofa across from the bed. "Want to sleep a bit more?"

Instead of answering, Nathan Sterling asked, "How’s your hand?"

Alice York took off her gloves to look. "It’s fine. The gauze isn’t soaked with blood. It just hurts a little."

Nathan Sterling frowned. "It’s your own fault. You were the one who insisted on dragging me along today."

Alice York nodded. "Yes, I brought it on myself."

"..."

Nathan Sterling slid off the bed, making room for Alice York. "I don’t want to sleep anymore. You can sleep here. Also, I want to play games. Give me your phone."

Alice York took out her phone and waved it. "You have to say, ’Big sister, may I please play on your phone?’ Be a little more polite to me."

Nathan Sterling pressed his lips together tightly and refused to say it.

Alice York said, "If you don’t say it, I’m not giving it to you."

Nathan Sterling turned to leave. "Fine, don’t give it to me then."

"What’s so hard about giving in a little!" Alice York was at her wit’s end. She proactively handed him the phone. "Alright, here. Remember, no random tapping, and don’t send any random messages. If someone calls, you have to give me the phone. And don’t you dare leave people on read for me."

"How are you more long-winded than Mom? Doesn’t your hand still hurt? Just go to sleep."

"..." ’My hand only hurts because of you.’

That little brat’s mouth. Not a single nice word ever came out of it.

Alice York got up and lay down on the bed. She had woken up early today, so a nap would help her feel more energetic in the afternoon.

When Wyatt Sterling’s call came, Alice York had already been asleep for about ten minutes and was in a deep slumber.

Nathan Sterling hadn’t even finished his round of the game when the caller ID suddenly took over the screen. He didn’t even see the name clearly before hitting "Decline."

About ten seconds later, the caller ID took over the screen again.

This time, Nathan Sterling saw the caller’s name clearly—Third Uncle.

’Why is it him?!’

Nathan Sterling clutched the phone and got up, walking to the bedside. He was about to wake Alice York when his eyes suddenly darted around. He clutched the phone and went out to the balcony.

Once on the balcony, he looked back to make sure Alice York was still asleep before finally pressing "Accept" and putting the phone to his ear.

A man’s lazy, deep voice came from the receiver. "Still angry?"

’Angry?’

’Did he make Alice angry?’

’Damn him!’

When he didn’t hear Alice York’s voice after a long pause, Wyatt Sterling said, "I’m coming to find you."

Nathan Sterling snorted coldly. "If you dare come over, I’ll tell Grandpa!"
