After His Sweetheart Moved In, He Came Home Every Night-Chapter 168: Welcoming Sister Home
Finn Hawthorne saw the girl named Tess Thompson.
She worked part-time at a flower shop. At seven in the morning, she would ride her little electric scooter to open up. When the owner delivered the flowers, she was responsible for unloading them, arranging them all, watering them, trimming the leaves, and preparing the day’s delivery orders.
Tess Thompson was so busy she couldn’t even sit down for breakfast, having to eat while she worked.
At that moment, a discreet Bentley was parked across the street from the flower shop.
The car had been there since the shop opened. Tess Thompson had noticed it, but the person inside showed no signs of getting out.
"Is that her?"
Finn Hawthorne pulled his gaze away and turned to Felix Hawthorne, who was sitting beside him. He asked again, "This woman is Evelyn Hawthorne?"
His tone was filled with doubt and disbelief.
Felix Hawthorne removed the frameless glasses from the bridge of his nose and pinched his brow. "Watch your words. She’s your sister. Don’t use her full name."
Finn Hawthorne scoffed, though his eyes were gloomy. "Then what if I go down there right now, walk up to her, and call her Evelyn Hawthorne? You think she won’t assume I’m crazy?"
"Finn."
Felix Hawthorne’s voice was deep and firm, carrying a natural authority.
He glanced sideways, watching Finn Hawthorne quietly. That one look was enough to make Finn settle down.
"Brother, I’m just... I’m just not ready yet." Finn Hawthorne’s tone softened. "I’ve dreamed of my sister coming back, but now that we’ve really found her, it feels unreal. Like I’m still dreaming."
As he finished speaking, Finn Hawthorne’s eyes reddened.
Seeing his younger brother’s red-rimmed eyes, how could Felix Hawthorne remain unmoved? He mulled it over for a moment before saying, "Vera was missing for over twenty years with no news. Mom, Dad, and I... we’d honestly prepared for the worst. But now that we’ve found Vera, it’s not just you—I also feel like I’m in a dream. It’s just too unreal."
After speaking, he slowly closed his eyes, hiding his true emotions.
Finn Hawthorne felt a wave of empathy and suddenly pushed the car door open. "I’m going to see her."
Felix Hawthorne opened his eyes. "Wait."
Finn Hawthorne paused, his hand on the door. Then he heard Felix Hawthorne say from behind him, "Don’t scare her, and don’t reveal your identity. She’s rather resistant to us right now."
"Got it."
Finn Hawthorne replied, then got out of the car and walked toward the flower shop.
Tess Thompson was checking her orders. After confirming that a customer hadn’t changed their scheduled delivery time, she prepared to go count the bouquets.
Just then, a man walked into the flower shop.
"Hello, are you here to buy flowers or place an order?"
Tess Thompson put down what she was doing and walked briskly toward the customer.
Finn Hawthorne’s gaze swept casually over the vast array of fresh flowers before him. As she approached, he glanced to the side to look at her.
Her face was bare, without any makeup, but it was easy to see she was beautiful—she just hadn’t had time to dress up due to her work.
’Is this my sister, Evelyn Hawthorne?’
’She doesn’t look like me at all!’
"Hello."
"Hello?"
"Are you here to buy flowers or place an order?"
Tess Thompson saw the customer staring at her, and her smile began to feel strained. She had to call out to him a few times before he snapped out of it.
Finn Hawthorne averted his gaze and stated his purpose. "I’d like to buy some flowers. Could you give me a recommendation?"
"Of course, no problem."
Tess Thompson immediately took a small notebook and pen from her apron. Looking down, she wrote as she asked, "Who are they for? A lover, family member, friend, elder, or...?"
Finn Hawthorne: "A family member."
Tess Thompson continued writing. "And what’s the occasion? A birthday, graduation...?"
Finn Hawthorne: "To welcome her home."
Tess Thompson: "Is it for a man or a woman?"
Finn Hawthorne studied her with a calm gaze. "My sister."
"Okay."
For the last point, Tess Thompson continued, "Would it be convenient to describe this family member’s personality? That way, I can decide on a color scheme based on her character. The arrangements usually turn out perfectly that way."
Finn Hawthorne murmured, "Personality?"
Tess Thompson nodded. "Yes, her personality. If it’s not convenient to say, I can show you some arrangement options first. If you don’t like them, we can change them until you’re satisfied."
Finn Hawthorne suddenly fell silent.
Because at that moment, the image that surfaced in his mind was surprisingly of Alice York counting to three. She wasn’t fierce and didn’t even glare, but her intimidating presence was on par with his brother’s!
"Forget it. I can’t figure out her personality. Just arrange whatever you think is best." As he spoke, Finn Hawthorne took out his phone. "I’ll pay first. When the flowers are ready, deliver them to that car across the street."
"Okay, the payment QR code is over here. As for the price..."
Before Tess Thompson could finish, Finn Hawthorne scanned the code and paid five thousand yuan.
Tess Thompson heard the payment notification sound and was shocked. "Sir, the flowers aren’t that expensive. You..."
"It’s fine. I’m in a good mood. Just make a nice arrangement. It doesn’t have to be a huge bouquet, as long as the flowers are beautiful."
With that, Finn Hawthorne turned and left.
Tess Thompson saw him to the door and only looked away once the customer had gotten into the Bentley. Then she turned and went back into the shop.
’It must be the same people from yesterday,’ she thought.
Back in the car.
Felix Hawthorne was resting with his eyes closed. Hearing the car door open, he looked over and asked in a mild tone, "You bought flowers?"
Finn Hawthorne closed the door and nodded with a hum of affirmation.
Felix Hawthorne asked, "Who are they for?"
Finn Hawthorne: "Can’t I buy them for myself?"
Felix Hawthorne chuckled softly and placed his glasses back on his nose. His already stunningly handsome face gained an air of refined, scholarly elegance with the glasses on.
He took out his phone, the screen showing an incoming call.
Finn Hawthorne caught a glimpse of the screen and fell silent.
It was a call from their mother.
While Felix Hawthorne was on the phone, Finn Hawthorne quietly slipped out of the car. By the time Felix finished the call and put his phone away, his younger brother was gone.
"Where did he go?"
Felix Hawthorne’s tone was cold and heavy.
The driver said, "The Third Young Master went back to the flower shop."
Felix Hawthorne’s brows furrowed. When he rolled down the window, he saw Finn Hawthorne walking out of the flower shop holding a single yellow rose.
Then he hailed a taxi and took off, destination unknown.
...
Alice York woke up early. After quickly packing a few things, she was called over by Mindy Vaughn to help Nathan Sterling pick out clothes.
That’s right, she wasn’t the only one going to Arden this time—Nathan Sterling was too.
After all, the old master’s initial reason for taking her to Arden was to keep an eye on Nathan Sterling.
They spent half the day picking out clothes, but Nathan Sterling wasn’t satisfied with a single item.
Either one was ugly, or another was too weird. In short, he found a different fault with every single piece.
Alice York’s patience wore thin. "Then how about we try the emperor’s new clothes?"
Nathan Sterling scowled. "I’m young, not stupid."
Alice York couldn’t help but chuckle.
Just then, a servant came in and called to her, "Miss Alice, someone is here to see you."
"To see me?"
’Who would be looking for me this early in the morning?’
"I’m going to see who it is. You can pick something out yourself. If I come back and you still haven’t found anything you like, you really will be wearing the emperor’s new clothes."
Leaving him with that, Alice York turned and walked out.
Naturally, Nathan Sterling didn’t obediently continue choosing. He followed her out.
Alice York went to the front courtyard to meet her visitor. It was a man. His back was to her, and he was very tall—and looked very familiar.
