After His Sweetheart Moved In, He Came Home Every Night-Chapter 16: Her Boyfriend
Alice hadn’t believed it at first.
She thought Mason was just trying to scare her. How could Wyatt possibly come up to get her himself? Anything that happened in public would immediately get back to the Sterlings. The risk was too great.
Until she heard Wyatt’s voice: "You have two minutes left."
"..."
In that instant, Alice’s body reacted faster than her mind. She really did leave the restaurant within two minutes and get into his car.
"I heard you took two days off."
Wyatt didn’t look at her, raising a hand to undo the top button of his shirt.
Alice was still wondering where Melody had gone. Hearing the man’s question, she quickly composed herself and answered, "I had acute gastritis yesterday, so I took two days off from the hospital. Didn’t you already know, Uncle?"
"If you’re on sick leave, why aren’t you resting at home?" The man chatted with her casually. After unbuttoning his shirt, he let his hand rest by his side.
The posture was relaxed and languid, lessening some of his intimidating presence, but he still exuded an air of overwhelming nobility.
Alice watched the man’s side profile. "Zoe’s family arranged a blind date for her, and it just so happened to be today, so I came along to keep her company."
"And?" Wyatt turned his head, his deep eyes fixed on her.
"That’s all." Although her heart was pounding, Alice did her best to keep a straight face. She knew that if she showed the slightest hint of guilt, Wyatt Sterling would see it.
Fortunately, Wyatt didn’t ask anything else in the end and just told Mason to drive.
"Wait, don’t drive yet!"
In her haste, Alice grabbed Wyatt’s arm. "Zoe is still waiting for me. I can’t just leave like this. It would be too heartless."
Wyatt’s gaze fell on the hand gripping his arm. Her slender fingers were fair and lovely. "Heartless?"
Alice immediately snatched her hand back.
Wyatt lightly brushed the cuff she had grabbed—the fabric didn’t wrinkle easily. "Do you have a heart?"
Alice was stunned for a few seconds.
’What does he mean, do I have a heart?’
’How am I the one without a heart?!’
"Answer your phone."
Wyatt prompted her.
Only then did Alice realize her phone was ringing. Fuming, she picked it up, but when she saw it was Zoe calling, her puffed-up cheeks instantly deflated.
"Why aren’t you answering?" Wyatt watched her leisurely, waiting for her to take the call.
Alice clutched her phone, then immediately forced a placating smile. "It’s Zoe. I have to go back up."
"No rush," Wyatt said. "Put it on speaker."
"..."
The moment she was forced to turn on the speaker, Alice just wanted to lie down and let the earth swallow her whole.
"Alice?"
Zoe’s anxious voice came through the speaker. "Alice, where did you go? I can’t find you! Alice?"
Enduring Wyatt’s scrutinizing gaze, Alice replied, "I went to the restroom."
Wyatt chuckled softly. "Quite the liar."
On the other end of the line, Zoe faintly heard someone speaking next to her, but she couldn’t make out what was said. It sounded a bit like a man’s voice.
Zoe asked, "Alice, who’s talking next to you?"
Alice’s hand holding the phone tightened and tightened. "...It’s someone in the next stall on a call."
’I really don’t want to lie, but I have absolutely no choice right now.’
"So when are you coming out? Did you get your period? Or is your stomach acting up again?" Zoe said as she started walking toward the restrooms. "I’ll come find you."
"Don’t!"
"Zoe, you don’t need to come over!"
Alice secretly glanced at the man’s reaction, choosing her words carefully. "Zoe, my stomach’s a little upset right now. I might be a while."
"Is it serious?" Zoe sounded very concerned.
"No, I know my limits. Don’t worry," Alice replied.
"You have to tell me if it gets worse. Don’t just try to tough it out on your own." Zoe stopped and didn’t walk any further.
Alice quickly agreed, "Okay, okay. I’m hanging up now."
"Wait, Alice! While we’re on the phone, quickly tell me, do you have any feelings for my uncle?" Zoe wanted to get a clear answer so she could give her uncle a hint.
Hearing this, Alice’s head instantly started to throb.
She didn’t quite dare to look at Wyatt’s expression, but a part of her was desperate to see how he would react to knowing she was on a blind date today.
She lifted her gaze, only to see the man’s expression was serene, his eyes calm and ripple-free. He didn’t seem to care at all.
A heavy feeling constricted her chest, and she was silent for a long moment. It wasn’t until Zoe prompted her twice that she finally replied, "...Professor Locke is very nice."
"I knew it! My younger uncle is irresistibly charming. I’ll find a chance to give him a hint later. Hanging up now." After confirming Alice’s attitude, Zoe finally ended the call.
Alice put her phone away. "Uncle, the call is over. Can I get out of the car now?" 𝙛𝒓𝒆𝙚𝒘𝒆𝓫𝙣𝓸𝙫𝓮𝒍.𝒄𝒐𝓶
The man’s tone was unreadable. "Back to Westeria."
"Yes, sir." Mason adjusted the route and started the car.
Alice could no longer get out. Suppressing her frustration, she said, "Uncle, I can’t go yet."
Wyatt’s voice was cold and deep. "If you’re not feeling well, then go home and rest."
"But I’m not unwell."
But no matter what she said, Wyatt ignored her protests.
The drive wasn’t long, but Alice felt incredibly stifled the entire way.
’I have a plan. Once we get back to Westeria and Wyatt’s car leaves, I’ll hail another cab to meet up with Zoe. Otherwise, I’ll have no way to explain things to her.’
When they arrived at Westeria, Alice said to the man before getting out, "Thank you for taking me home, Third Uncle. Take care."
"Take care? What’s the rush?" Wyatt sneered, pushing his door open to get out. While Alice was still in shock, her own door was pulled open from the outside, and Wyatt reached in to grab her wrist.
"Wyatt Sterling, what on earth are you doing?"
Whenever Alice got flustered, she would use his full name. Her struggles were useless; the man’s grip on her wrist was impossible to resist. "If you don’t want to cause a scene, you should act a little more obedient."
"..."
Although she didn’t know what Wyatt Sterling was suddenly doing in Westeria, she knew it was always best to go along with him.
She rented a two-bedroom apartment in Westeria. Besides Zoe and her mother, Mindy, Wyatt Sterling had never set foot in here. She had never invited him, either. After all, the place was too small to accommodate someone so precious and noble.
The building had four apartments per floor, served by one elevator. On the way up, they ran into a neighbor, an older woman who greeted Alice with a wide smile. "Dr. York, you have the day off?"
"Yes, I do. Mrs. Yates, are you just back from grocery shopping?" Alice noticed the bag of vegetables in the neighbor’s hand.
"That’s right, the supermarket has a big sale today." The neighbor then noticed the man beside Alice.
’That presence, those looks... Tsk, tsk, tsk. Absolutely top-tier.’
’He does look like he’s a bit older, though.’
Noticing they were still holding hands, the neighbor instantly understood. She lowered her voice, a sly grin on her face. "Dr. York, is this your boyfriend?"
"He’s not..." Alice immediately denied it.
"Oh, I know, I get it. The mature and stable type. You’ve got good taste, Dr. York!" Just as the neighbor finished speaking, the elevator reached their floor.
"Oh, Dr. York, I have to hurry back and cook for my grandson." The neighbor walked out of the elevator with her bag of groceries, looking back as she went. "You two are a great match, a really great match. Treasure it."
"..." Alice was mortified.
After they got out of the elevator, she sheepishly explained to the man, "Mrs. Yates misunderstood our relationship. Please don’t mind her."
Wyatt said nonchalantly, "And what if I do mind?"
Alice pressed her lips together. "If you don’t show up here again, Mrs. Yates naturally won’t ask again."
As she finished speaking, she turned to enter the code and open the door. The man followed her inside, shut the door behind him, and grabbed her wrist, pulling her back and pinning her against the built-in cabinet in the entryway.
"What, am I so shameful that I can’t be seen with you?" He raised her hands and pinned them above her head.
By the time Alice realized the danger, she was already immobilized. Before she could speak, the man seized her by the neck and kissed her, murmuring between kisses, "This dump may be a little small, but it’s more than enough space to have you."
Alice’s eyes widened in shock. "Wyatt Sterling, are you crazy?! This is my home!"
