After His Sweetheart Moved In, He Came Home Every Night-Chapter 14: Caught Red-Handed
Alice York had the nerve to go on a blind date, but not the courage to be seen on one by Wyatt.
Heaven knows how scared she was at that moment.
"Wyatt was supposed to come, but a last-minute meeting came up. It involves some very important matters, so he had me come handle it alone." Melody warmly took Alice’s hand, failing to notice the change in Alice’s expression.
When Alice heard Melody say Wyatt wasn’t coming, she immediately breathed a sigh of relief.
’Thank goodness Wyatt Sterling isn’t coming.’
’Otherwise, if he caught me on a blind date, who knows what would happen.’
Melody’s face was aglow with happiness. "Wyatt said he trusts my abilities, so the pressure is really on."
Alice smiled. "For Third Uncle to entrust such an important matter to you, Miss Lancaster, it shows he has great confidence in your abilities."
"Perhaps," Melody said, overjoyed by the compliment.
Covering her mouth as she laughed, Melody finally noticed the other three people sitting at the table. She asked, "Are they all friends of yours?"
Alice nodded.
"Miss Lancaster, I’ve heard so much about you." Zoe stood up, poised and graceful.
Melody was surprised. "You know me?"
Zoe smile was flawless. "Of course."
Zoe Jenson wasn’t kidding. She really did know of Melody—the woman who was always by Third Master Sterling’s side was quite famous. For her to suddenly come over and act so friendly with Alice was what truly surprised Zoe.
Melody glanced at Alice beside her. "Alice must have told you."
Zoe also glanced at Alice York, then smiled at Melody.
Then, Melody looked over at the two men sitting opposite them. "Is this a friendly get-together or..."
Zoe admitted openly, "A blind date."
Melody’s expression was one of slight surprise. She then looked at Alice. "Alice, are you also..."
"No, no, no!" Zoe said hurriedly. "It’s just me on the date. Alice came with me for support."
But Melody didn’t believe her. She gave them an "I get it, I understand" look, then took half a step back. "Well, you all take your time. I won’t disturb you."
Before leaving, Melody gave Alice a meaningful look and said in a hushed voice, "Alice, seize the opportunity. Both of those men seem quite outstanding."
"No..." Alice wanted to explain, but Melody had already turned and left, as if afraid of interrupting something.
Seeing this, Alice decided not to worry about it.
Besides, Melody’s misunderstanding didn’t really affect her anyway.
As soon as she sat down, Zoe reached out and tugged her sleeve. "When did you get involved with Melody?"
"It’s a long story..." Alice thought for a moment and decided it wasn’t worth explaining. "Let’s not talk about her."
"Alright."
Meanwhile...
After leaving Alice, Melody returned to the private room she had just booked. The investor hadn’t arrived yet, and she was getting bored just waiting.
Remembering the scene she had just stumbled upon, Melody picked up her phone and dialed the man’s number.
"Wyatt"
Few ordinary men could resist the tone of Melody’s voice.
But the voice on the other end of the line was flat. "Have you met him?"
"President Shaw isn’t here yet." Melody Lancaster changed the subject. "Wyatt, guess who I just ran into?"
The man had little patience. "The meeting is about to start."
"Alright then." Melody Lancaster wasn’t disappointed. "I’ll tell you later, after your meeting. If I finish my discussion and still see Alice on my way out, I’ll ask how it went for them."
With that said, Melody was about to hang up.
The man’s cold, heavy voice came from the other end of the phone. "Finish what you were saying."
Hearing his tone, Melody’s heart clenched. She quickly said, "I just ran into Alice in the restaurant. I think she was on a blind date. The guy looked pretty good—probably her type."
Melody had a good eye. She figured the man on the blind date with Alice was the one sitting directly across from her.
Gentle and refined, with a distinguished air—he seemed quite decent.
"Wyatt, I think..."
Melody suddenly sensed something was wrong. She pulled the phone away from her ear, looked at the screen, and saw he had hung up.
...
"Alice, you still haven’t told me. How exactly did you and my younger uncle meet?"
Alice had already put the encounter with Melody out of her mind. She took a sip of water and set down her glass. "It was a coincidence, actually. Professor Locke and I live in the same complex. One day, some residents were having a loud argument, and Professor Locke was the one who mediated. I was there at the time and happened to witness the whole thing."
"That really happened?" Zoe immediately looked at Holden Locke. "Uncle, I didn’t know you were such a good Samaritan."
Holden Locke smiled faintly. "What kind of thing is that to say?"
Zoe replied, "I’m just being direct with my praise. I don’t know any of those fancy, literary phrases."
Wait a second...
She was focusing on the wrong thing. 𝘧𝓇𝑒𝑒𝑤ℯ𝑏𝓃𝘰𝑣ℯ𝘭.𝘤ℴ𝘮
Zoe’s expression turned serious. Zion noticed and became serious as well, thinking they were about to move on to getting to know each other better.
But all Zoe wanted to clarify was— "Uncle, when did you move into the same complex as Alice? And I’ve been to Westeria so many times, how come I’ve never run into you?"
Zion was disappointed. ’So she’s not talking to me.’
Alice was also curious about when Holden had moved into Westeria. She looked up, just in time to meet his gaze.
The next second, she offered a natural smile. There was no smile on Holden’s lips, but there was one in his eyes—a very obvious one.
He answered, "Six months ago."
Zoe pressed, "So, Uncle, do you live there every day?"
"Not at the moment."
Holden explained, "The lease on my current rental is up in six months, so I asked a friend to help me find a new place. A unit in Westeria happened to be for sale, and the floor and layout were pretty good. Seeing as I won’t be changing jobs in the next few years, I decided to buy it."
"So that means Uncle and Alice will be neighbors from now on?" Zoe suddenly looked at Alice York.
Alice York nodded. "For now, I guess. But the lease on my rental is also ending soon. I’m thinking of renewing, but I don’t know if the landlord has other plans."
Zoe clapped her hands together suddenly.
Everyone looked at her.
Zoe grinned mischievously. "How about this, Alice? Why don’t you just move in with my uncle?"
Alice York almost choked on her own saliva.
’Zoe really has the nerve to say anything!’
Feeling awkward, Alice York stood up from her seat. "I’m going to use the restroom. You continue with the chat."
Zoe quickly asked, "Want me to come with you?"
"No thanks. You should talk more with Mr. Zane." Alice hurried away.
Holden Locke shot Zoe a displeased look. "You speak so thoughtlessly."
"My bad," Zoe said, hanging her head.
By now, Alice had reached the restroom. She didn’t go in, just washed her hands in the outer area to ease her earlier embarrassment.
A moment later, she came out drying her hands. The moment she saw Mason, the world almost went black.
"Miss Alice."
Mason had also seen Alice and started walking toward her.
Alice’s voice was dazed. "...Assistant Cheney, what are you doing here?"
Mason smiled. "I came with Third Master."
Alice’s expression froze. "Uncle is here?"
