Chapter 127: Chapter 127: See You Again in Three Years

The moment she woke from the dream, Alice York’s eyes snapped open.

She lay there, panting, for a long while before she finally got up to wash.

Coming downstairs, Alice didn’t see Wyatt Sterling. Instead, Julian Dalton and his daughter were in the living room.

"Alice~"

Yael ran over, grabbed Alice’s hand, and swung it coaxingly.

Julian rose from the sofa and walked over. "Wyatt went to the office. He asked me to let you know."

Alice said softly, "He didn’t have to."

"Did you two fight again?"

"..."

A knowing smile touched Julian’s face. "No wonder Wyatt left so early this morning."

Alice looked up, meeting Julian’s teasing gaze.

Her expression grew a little awkward. She shook her head. "We didn’t fight."

’Our relationship doesn’t even have a title. How could it be considered a fight? It was just a disagreement, that’s all.’

She said nothing more and led Yael by the hand to the dining room.

Julian followed behind them. "Um, the nannies for the interview will be here soon. The person you recommended, is she coming today or...?"

The reminder jogged Alice’s memory. "I almost forgot about that. I’m so sorry, Mr. Dalton. I’ll contact her right now."

Julian was easygoing. "No problem. Go ahead and call her. The interview process is long, and it’ll take time to make a final decision, but we’ll choose someone by the end of the day. I have to leave tomorrow morning."

Alice nodded and immediately dialed Seraphina Sheridan’s number.

The call was answered quickly.

Alice said, "Seraphina."

Back on the sofa, Julian slowly lifted his gaze when he heard the name Alice said.

On the other end of the line, Seraphina’s voice was cheerful. "Alice! Is that really you, Alice?"

"It’s me."

Yael suddenly reached for Alice’s phone. Alice lowered it, placed it on the table, and put it on speaker so Yael could listen in.

"When we exchanged numbers the other day, I thought you were just being polite and didn’t want to turn me down directly. I never imagined you’d actually call me again."

Seraphina’s voice was full of surprised delight. She then asked, "Do you have a job for me?"

Alice smiled. "You guessed it. I do have a job for you, but it’s short-term. Are you interested?"

"Yes! Absolutely!"

Seraphina immediately agreed without even asking what the job was, whether it was difficult, or if it was complicated.

For Seraphina, the only thing she really cared about was the salary.

But when Alice mentioned the pay was five thousand a day, Seraphina went silent for a long time.

Alice leaned closer to the phone. "Hello? Hello?"

Yael leaned in too, mimicking Alice. "Hello~ Hello~"

Alice let out a laugh, and Yael laughed too, her voice soft and adorable.

Seraphina heard the child’s voice but paid it no mind. Her thoughts were completely fixated on the five-thousand-a-day salary.

"Um, what... what kind of job pays so much per day?" Seraphina asked nervously.

Alice suppressed a smile. "You did agree without even asking."

Seraphina stammered, "I just didn’t expect it to be so high. It scared me a little."

"Are you starting to think I’m a scammer?"

Seraphina laughed dryly.

Alice stopped teasing her and got straight to the point. "It’s taking care of a child for about three or four days. The father is very wealthy and has strict requirements. There’s an interview, and the whole process will be quite complex. I’m just recommending you; whether or not you get the job is up to you."

Five thousand a day was very tempting.

But landing the job was no guarantee.

Seraphina understood what Alice meant. "Oh, I see. Well, I’ll give it a try. When are the interviews?"

"Today. Can you make it?" Alice asked.

"Yes," Seraphina said. "I’m free now. Send me the address."

Alice added, "I’m only giving a recommendation. You should be prepared to be rejected. The competition will likely be stiff, since there are several other candidates."

’So, five thousand a day really isn’t that easy to get, huh?’

Seraphina sighed to herself.

Rich people could be very generous—she knew that from when she used to be wealthy herself. To them, this amount of money was just pocket change. However, she had no particular experience with children, so she’d most likely be rejected.

’But this is a job Alice recommended,’ she thought. ’I should at least try for it. Even if I get rejected, I’ll go through the motions. You never know, right?’

The chance was slim, but it was there.

Alice reminded her, "I’ve texted you the address. That’s all for now. Bye."

Yael chimed in, saying "Bye-bye~" to the person on the phone.

Seraphina paused for a second, then asked, "Is there a child with you?"

Before Alice could speak, Yael introduced herself. "Hi there! I’m Yael~"

Seraphina’s heart skipped a beat. "Yvonne?"

Yael corrected her, "It’s Yael~ Yael~ I’m Yael~"

Alice chuckled and said, "It’s Yael, as in ’the faint tolling of a distant bell.’"

"Oh, that Yael," Seraphina said, as if suddenly realizing something. "Don’t tell me the job is to take care of this little girl with you?"

Alice didn’t confirm or deny it. "Seraphina, just come to the address I sent you for the interview first."

With that, she ended the call.

"Alice, is she your friend?" Yael asked curiously.

Alice nodded. "She is, but we only met recently."

Yael tilted her head, pretending to think but really just being cute. "Is she the one who’s going to take care of me?"

Alice hesitated. "I’m not sure. We’ll only know after your dad interviews her himself."

Yael then asked, "Is she pretty?"

"Very pretty."

An image of Seraphina Sheridan’s face surfaced in Alice’s mind. Of course she was pretty.

When Alice had first seen Seraphina backstage at the show, she had thought no one else on the entire program was as beautiful, and that Cecelia couldn’t even compare.

"As pretty as you, Alice?" Yael asked again.

Alice chuckled and said modestly, "She’s even prettier than me."

"Weally?" Yael seemed to be getting excited.

Alice said, "You’ll see when you meet her. Let’s hope she has good luck. I have a feeling you two are fated to meet."

What kind of fate, however, she couldn’t be sure.

Alice didn’t have time to be part of the interview process. She had to go to work and could only call later to ask about the results.

After breakfast, Alice left Shorecrest.

She had barely left when Seraphina arrived.

Shorecrest was located in an affluent neighborhood and wasn’t easy to enter. Alice had made arrangements beforehand so Seraphina could get in smoothly.

Taxis weren’t allowed inside the residential area, so Seraphina had to follow the address on foot to find the Shorecrest villa.

A security guard opened the gate for her and escorted her to the front door.

Staring at the magnificent entrance before her, Seraphina stood at the bottom of the steps, smoothed out her clothes, and took a deep breath. "Hello? I’m here for an interview."

Her words were met with complete silence.

Seraphina’s heart began to beat a little faster. For some reason, she felt incredibly nervous, more so than she ever had for any other job interview.

She quickly tried to calm her nerves. "Is anyone home? I’m here to—"

Before she could finish, Julian Dalton’s figure appeared at the top of the steps.

Seraphina tilted her head up, and their eyes met. A flash of astonishment crossed her face. "You—"
