Chapter 121: Chapter 121: Wash Together

"Alright, I’ll be honest with you. I heard that Melody Lancaster and her mom got locked up from my uncle."

Zoe Jenson didn’t beat around the bush, telling Alice everything. "You’d never guess—my uncle and the Eldest Young Master Lancaster are super close friends! Talk about drama!"

Alice chuckled. "It is pretty dramatic."

On the other end of the line, Zoe Jenson was cackling.

Alice switched the phone to her other hand. "Hold your laughter for a second. Do you know why the Eldest Young Master Lancaster locked Melody Lancaster up right after he got back? What happened?"

Zoe hummed and then began to explain. "Well, Old Master Lancaster’s condition suddenly became critical overnight, so the Eldest Young Master Lancaster rushed back in the middle of the night. The car the Lancaster Family sent to pick him up had been tampered with. Someone was trying to kill him."

Alice’s breath hitched. "Was it Melody Lancaster?"

"Right now, all the evidence does point to Melody Lancaster and her mother, so they’ve been locked up. Once the truth is out, they’re definitely finished. They’ll probably be completely cut out of the inheritance. What a shame. But she brought it on herself, harming her own family."

This kind of thing was normal in the internal struggles of a powerful family.

Melody Lancaster was reckless and overly ambitious, but she couldn’t cover her tracks. And to make matters worse, she had targeted the heir.

However, the possibility of her being framed couldn’t be ruled out. Melody Lancaster was dead set on marrying into the Sterlings; if she ruined her reputation so early, wouldn’t all her efforts be for nothing?

"So, is the Eldest Young Master Lancaster okay?" Alice asked.

"He’s fine, he’s fine. At a critical time like this, the Eldest Young Master Lancaster was on high alert himself. He contacted my uncle to pick him up late that night. The car the Lancaster Family sent for him got into an accident, and they eventually followed the trail back to Melody Lancaster."

Hearing this, Alice finally understood what had happened.

Zoe sounded very happy. "It’s so satisfying. To think that Melody Lancaster forced you to go on that matchmaking show, acting all high and mighty. And now, in the blink of an eye, she’s the one locked up."

But Alice’s feelings were complicated. She murmured, "Is it a coincidence..."

Zoe didn’t understand what she meant. "What coincidence?"

"Nothing."

Alice said nothing about her conversation with Wyatt Sterling the previous night.

He had asked her if she wouldn’t be satisfied until she’d gotten her revenge.

’That’s what she had been thinking at the time, but she hadn’t said it out loud. Yet today, something had happened to Melody Lancaster...’

Then she thought back to the last time. Mindy Vaughn had laid a hand on her, and the very next day, Old Master Sterling found out about Mindy Vaughn’s affair with the doctor. Mindy didn’t just get slapped, she was also dragged to the ancestral hall to kneel as punishment...

And that wasn’t all. There was also Scott Churchill in Washington. One day he choked her, and the next, he was found hanging from a bridge...

CLICK.

The sound of the bathroom door opening came.

"I have to go. Talk to you later," Alice said, hastily hanging up the phone.

She put away her phone and looked back to see Wyatt Sterling walking out of the bathroom in a bathrobe. The sash wasn’t tied, leaving him brazenly on display.

He tilted his head, drying his short, ink-black hair, not noticing her gaze. He walked straight to the head of the bed, bent down, and picked up his phone to check his messages.

Then, he called someone back—she didn’t know who. He just stood there, talking on the phone with one hand while continuing to dry his hair with the other. His robe was still open, and from the side, a certain angle was very conspicuous.

After a moment, he seemed to notice her stare and turned his head to look at her. Their eyes met, and Alice felt her face grow warm, then hotter still.

She jogged over and tossed her phone onto the bed. "I’m going to take a shower too."

"Wait—"

Before Wyatt Sterling could finish, Alice had already ducked into the bathroom and shut the door.

The ventilation was good, so most of the steam in the bathroom had already dissipated. The mirror was clear. Alice patted her reddened cheeks, silently cursing herself for being so pathetic.

’It’s not like this is her first day with him.’

’They had been intimate countless times, for more days and nights than she could remember, yet she still got shy seeing his body.’

’I can’t think about it anymore.’

’It’s too early for this. I need a clear head.’

’A shower will help.’

Alice undressed and stepped under the showerhead. The patter of the water on her skin instantly doused the wild thoughts in her mind.

Just as she was reaching for the body wash, the bathroom door opened. The sound of the running water masked the noise, so Alice didn’t hear it at first. Not until the showerhead above her suddenly turned off. She spun around and saw Wyatt Sterling’s face.

"AH—"

She jumped in fright, nearly slipping as she stumbled back.

Wyatt Sterling calmly caught her to keep her from falling. "It’s me."

"Third Uncle... W-why did you just come in like that?" She covered her chest with her hands.

The gesture was pointless, but to Alice, it felt absolutely necessary.

But she didn’t know that her panic, her helplessness, and every subtle expression she made was exquisitely provocative to him.

Wyatt Sterling’s breathing grew heavier. He reached out, pulled her closer, and took her hand. "Let me put a waterproof bandage on for you."

His voice was a little hoarse; he was clearly restraining himself.

’He’d suppressed it all night while they shared a bed, but a simple shower had suddenly stirred him up. It was damn strange.’

Alice had already sensed the danger, especially from the way the man’s eyes devoured her like a hungry wolf. She tried to pull her hand back. "Third Uncle, it’s been five hours since the IV. I don’t need a bandage. It won’t get infected."

"Five hours is long enough after an IV?" Wyatt Sterling lifted his eyes, his dark, intense gaze like a spark ready to ignite a wildfire.

Alice nodded quickly. "Five hours is more than enough..."

Before she could finish, Wyatt Sterling pressed the waterproof bandage onto the back of her hand, over the needle mark.

"There."

He said it was done, but he showed no intention of letting go of her hand.

Alice tugged her hand a few times but couldn’t get it free. She looked at him, her heart fluttering with panic. "Third Uncle, you should go out first. I’m not done showering."

"Need any help?" he asked.

Alice’s brain stalled for a few seconds. "H-Help with what?"

The spark in the man’s eyes burst into an unstoppable, surging flame. "Help you wash."

The moment he spoke, Alice found herself cornered against the wall.

The tiles were cold against her back, but the man’s hand on her waist shielded her from the chill.

The shower turned on, and the water that rained down was hot, but not as hot as the feverish heat radiating from the man’s body, which felt like it could melt Alice completely.

...

By the time noon approached, Alice had no strength left to even get out of bed.

Wyatt Sterling had the housekeeper bring up a meal. He was in a cheerful mood and personally fed Alice.

The care was so attentive that Alice initially resisted, feeling she couldn’t eat. Between that and her recent stomach troubles, she only managed to force down a few bites at first. But perhaps because she didn’t have to lift a finger, or maybe because the food was just that good, she found herself eating more and more until over half the bowl was gone. Wyatt polished off the rest.

Figuring she wasn’t going to the hospital today anyway, Alice planned to catch up on sleep in the afternoon. But the man wasn’t about to let her go.

Just as she was drifting off into a hazy sleep, the blankets began to stir, and her body was forcibly rebooted.
