Chapter 113: Chapter 113: Lust at First Sight

Alice’s light was still on.

It was very, very bright.

At that moment, every single person in the venue was staring at her, including the male contestant.

The male contestant didn’t need anyone else to leave their light on or confess to him. His objective from the moment he walked on stage had been clear: he was only there to confess his feelings for Cecelia. As such, he hadn’t spared the other female contestants a proper glance. However, the show’s rules dictated that if a female contestant left her light on for him, she had to make her confession first. Only after he rejected her could he proceed with his own confession to Cecelia.

But now, as the male contestant’s eyes fell upon Alice, he realized he must have been blind from the moment he walked on stage. The woman who had left her light on for him was far more beautiful than Cecelia.

Good Lord!

’She’s a goddess!’

’Cecelia’s looks were a joke compared to hers!’

With all eyes fixed on Alice, a smug smile spread across Cecelia’s face. "Stop pressing it," she taunted from the side. "You’re going to break it. If you like him that much, just go up and confess. It’s your first time, no need to be shy."

Alice ignored her.

’No matter how many times I press it, the button to turn off my light remains completely unresponsive. It can’t be a coincidence that my specific light has malfunctioned. This is clearly sabotage.’

Edward Ellison was also looking in her direction, his face etched with anxiety.

’Looks like he’s not in on it.’

’So this had to be Cecelia’s little trick.’

But no one else in the studio knew there was a problem with Alice’s light. Everyone assumed she had intentionally left it on for the male contestant, waiting until the very end to confess her feelings.

"What’s happening? Why did Alice leave her light on for this guy? Is her light broken?"

Zoe Jenson’s first reaction was that the light must be broken.

But then a second thought occurred to her. "Could this be part of the show’s script? I heard Alice say she was just here as a plant. She wouldn’t actually leave with one of the contestants."

Holden Locke asked, "So she goes through the motions and then gets rejected?"

Zoe Jenson nodded. "Probably."

Holden looked at the male contestant on stage. A moment ago, anyone in the audience could see that the man only had eyes for the other female contestant, practically vibrating with eagerness to make his confession. He hadn’t so much as glanced at anyone else.

But now, the male contestant only had eyes for Alice.

He even seemed to be looking forward to Alice’s impending confession.

Meanwhile, sensing that something was amiss, Mason Cheney quickly pulled out his phone and typed out a message—

[Miss Alice is likely being set up. She’s about to have to confess to one of the male contestants.]

His message went out, only to be met with silence.

No response.

Mason was unsure of what to do. He didn’t dare send a follow-up message, so all he could do was wait patiently.

Onstage, the host said to the male contestant, "Are you ready to reveal your dream girl?"

The truth was, the male contestant no longer wanted to make the announcement. He didn’t want to confess to Cecelia anymore. He liked Alice now and wanted to be successfully matched with her.

But he was afraid that if he didn’t, he would come across as incredibly fickle, especially since his initial goal had been so obvious. In the end, he decided to stick to the script and announce his dream girl first.

When the host announced his choice was Cecelia, the crowd erupted.

It was a roar of teasing; everyone had seen it coming from a mile away.

The host turned to Alice onstage. "Unfortunately, you are not male contestant number one’s choice. If you wish to proceed with your confession, your light will remain on after three seconds. If you wish to withdraw, your light will turn off after three seconds."

Alice: "..."

The male contestant watched Alice hopefully. He desperately wanted her to persist. If she did, he would definitely leave with her tonight.

His heart pounded with nervous anticipation as he waited for the next three seconds.

"Three... two... one."

The light did not go out.

A happy smile spread across the male contestant’s face.

The host’s voice boomed, "It’s time for your confession! Please come to the center of the stage!"

Alice: "..."

Beside her, Cecelia was grinning from ear to ear, unable to contain her glee. When she saw Alice hadn’t moved, she urged her on. "Hurry up and go! The handsome contestant is waiting for your confession."

Without a word, Alice calmly walked to the center of the stage.

Edward Ellison was practically dying of anxiety as he watched. ’Didn’t I make an agreement with Alice?’ he thought frantically. ’Don’t leave the light on, and don’t leave with any of the contestants! What is happening?’

"Control room! Control room! Cut to Cecelia on the main screen!" Fearing Alice might actually leave with the guy, Edward decided to throw Cecelia onto the big screen to recapture the male contestant’s attention.

The control room cut the feed immediately.

Cecelia’s smirking face suddenly filled the massive screen. The male contestant’s attention was drawn away, and everyone in the audience turned to look as well.

Cecelia instantly composed herself, her expression shifting back to that of a beautiful, flawless goddess.

"Wow, the show’s really stirring the pot now!"

"His dream girl is Cecelia, but this other contestant is on stage about to confess to him, and suddenly Cecelia is on the big screen. They’re testing him!"

"I think the one who’s about to confess is way better looking."

"Better looking? She’s a million times more beautiful than Cecelia and her plastic face. If I were him, I’d choose her, no question."

A buzz of discussion swept through the audience.

Owen Sterling’s expression was icy. He could already tell that Alice was being set up. This wasn’t how it was supposed to go; she was being forced to go up and confess.

"Please introduce yourself," the host said, handing the microphone to Alice.

Alice took the microphone and briefly stated her name and profession, offering no further details.

When the male contestant heard she was a doctor, his eyes lit up, and his affection for Alice became even more apparent.

The host’s voice rang out, "Please begin your confession."

Alice looked at the male contestant, who was gazing at her expectantly. Then, under the watchful eyes of the entire audience, she spoke. "I’m sorry," she said, "my light is broken."

"..."

The entire studio fell silent.

For a moment, the host seemed to have lost control of the show.

The male contestant was dumbfounded.

Alice continued, "So, I apologize, but I didn’t mean to leave my light on for you."

With that, Alice handed the microphone back to the host and turned to return to her seat.

But the male contestant stopped her. "Wait!"

Alice stopped.

The male contestant said, "That’s okay! I can confess to you instead."

Alice furrowed her brow. Down below, the previously silent audience began to murmur again.

The male contestant, however, was impatient. "Even though my initial choice wasn’t you, right now, I truly understand what ’love at first sight’ feels like. I want to confess to you."

Alice raised an eyebrow. "You mean lust at first sight?"

"No, no, no! It was purely love at first sight," the male contestant insisted, trying to look as sincere as possible.

Alice had no intention of playing along. "I’m sorry, but you don’t meet my standards."

"Then what kind of guy do you like?" the male contestant pressed, unwilling to give up. He still wanted to fight for a chance.

After all, he thought he was quite a catch.

"My stats are excellent across the board. You saw them just now—my annual salary, my looks, my family background... they’re all top-notch. You should give me a chance and get to know me better."

The man was like a peacock displaying its feathers.

Just as Alice was about to refuse him again, a man’s voice suddenly rang out from the audience: "That won’t be necessary. You’re not worthy."

As the words fell, a figure rose from his seat in the audience.
