Chapter 93: Chapter 93: Watch How He Simps

The moment the words left her mouth, Stella Thorne realized she’d said the wrong thing.

’Wasn’t that like twisting a knife in her best friend’s heart?’

But Claire Mercer didn’t seem to mind at all, speaking calmly.

"The wedding will certainly be very grand."

"It’s to announce to the outside world that the Sinclair Family is still a force to be reckoned with."

"If they can’t even hold a decent wedding, others will think the Sinclair Family is already on the decline."

The memory of how her best friend not only had no wedding with Gavin Sinclair but was even given a fake marriage certificate made Roxanne Peyton and Stella Thorne boil with rage.

"You two don’t have to be angry. I’ve already moved on."

"And I’m very glad there was no wedding and no marriage certificate."

"From any perspective, I’m still a single woman with no marital history."

"I don’t look down on divorced women, but if my ex-husband were a scumbag like that, I’d find it humiliating."

"Okay, let’s not talk about this anymore. Their business has nothing to do with me now."

"That’s true." Roxanne Peyton then asked,

"By the way, when are you planning to move in with Adrian Sutton?"

The thought of living under the same roof with Adrian Sutton still felt a little awkward to Claire Mercer.

"I just feel like it would be a little awkward."

"What’s so awkward about it?" Roxanne Peyton said. "Lots of men and women are roommates these days."

"I offered to let you stay at my place, but you wouldn’t."

"And you won’t accept the money I try to send you."

Stella Thorne said with a beaming smile,

"Hehe, I already paid Adrian Sutton for half the rent."

"If you don’t move in, my money will have gone to waste."

"What?" Claire Mercer was stunned. "When did you pay him?"

"At his housewarming party the other day."

"What else was I supposed to do when you won’t accept our help? I had to find some way to lighten your burden."

"The neighborhood is nice, transportation is convenient, and all the amenities are right there."

"Besides, Adrian Sutton seems like a decent guy. Having a man in the house to protect you is better than living alone."

And so, Claire Mercer was cornered into moving in with Adrian Sutton.

When Adrian Sutton learned she would be moving in with him in the next day or two, fireworks exploded in his heart.

He hadn’t expected happiness to come so suddenly.

Finally, he was one step closer to his goal.

’We’re already going to be living together. How far off can marriage be?’

Seeing him at the dinner table smiling with a lovestruck expression, Mrs. Rowan asked,

"What’s gotten into you? Grinning like that in the middle of dinner."

Silas Rowan shot him an exasperated look.

"Watch yourself. You’re smiling so wide you can barely keep the food in your mouth."

Adrian Sutton stared at the message from Claire on his phone.

"Claire is moving in with me."

Silas Rowan pursed his lips, a knowing look on his face.

"Of course."

He only showed this foolish side when it came to her.

Who would have guessed that the sharp, decisive Chairman of CZ Group had such a side to him?

Mrs. Rowan was happy for him, but she followed it with a sigh.

"Oh, Adrian, if you’re going to pursue a girl, just do it openly. Why make things so complicated?"

"Auntie, you don’t understand," Adrian Sutton said.

"Claire was deceived so horribly by the Sinclair Family and hurt so deeply by that bastard Gavin Sinclair."

"If I suddenly pursued her aggressively, it would definitely scare her off."

Seeing her precious nephew love someone so cautiously, Mrs. Rowan’s heart ached for him.

Seeing how he considered Claire’s feelings in everything, silently smoothing over all her troubles behind the scenes, she felt her precious nephew had truly become a mature and steady man.

Then, the thought that her own son didn’t even have a potential partner in sight made her glare at Silas Rowan.

"Look at Adrian, and then look at you..."

"Look at him do what?" Silas Rowan shot back irritably. "Watch how he acts like a total simp?"

Mrs. Rowan: "..."

Adrian Sutton shot him a death glare.

"Mom, you don’t need to push me. I will never, ever be like *someone* here and stoop to being a simp."

Mrs. Rowan: "..."

Adrian Sutton sneered.

"Let’s see you talk so tough when you finally meet ’the one’."

"Don’t you worry," Silas Rowan said confidently.

"I’ll never be so pathetic in love like you."

"So pathetic you don’t even dare to tell her who you really are. Tsk..."

Mrs. Rowan said, "I, for one, hope you meet someone who can make you eat your words."

"At least then I’d have a daughter-in-law to look forward to."

"You should worry about his problems, not mine," Silas Rowan said.

"I’m not in a rush. Some people, on the other hand, can’t wait to marry Claire."

Mrs. Rowan said, "Adrian, your auntie already had a master select some auspicious dates."

"The 18th of this month and the 6th of next month are both auspicious days."

"But I don’t want to make Claire wait that long, so I chose the 18th of this month."

"I plan to hold a formal ceremony on that day to officially recognize Claire as my goddaughter."

"How about we change it to the 6th of next month," Adrian Sutton said.

Mrs. Rowan didn’t ask why he wanted to move the ceremony to the sixth of next month.

She knew her nephew had his reasons for every decision he made.

If he said to move it to the sixth, then the sixth it would be.

Adrian Sutton then added,

"Even though it’s just a family ceremony, we should invite a lot of guests and make it a grand affair."

Mrs. Rowan said, "She’s not just my goddaughter, she’s my future niece-in-law."

"Of course it has to be grand. I’ve already drafted the guest list."

With that, she handed the list to Adrian Sutton for his review.

Adrian Sutton glanced at it briefly and said,

"Auntie, invite every prominent family in Rhonia, big and small."

"Alright." Mrs. Rowan didn’t quite understand, but she didn’t question him. "We’ll do as you say."

"By the way, Grandpa and Grandma are coming too," Silas Rowan said.

Adrian Sutton frowned slightly. "Didn’t I say not to tell them yet?"

"I just mentioned it offhand, and they got incredibly excited."

"They’re dying to meet their future granddaughter-in-law right away."

"If I hadn’t managed to hold them back, they’d probably be in Rhonia by now."

Adrian Sutton sighed. "This is exactly why I didn’t want them to know yet." 𝙛𝒓𝒆𝙚𝒘𝒆𝓫𝙣𝓸𝙫𝓮𝒍.𝒄𝒐𝓶

"They were bound to find out sooner or later. If they didn’t come to such an important event, Grandpa would be furious."

"The problem is, nothing has even started between me and Claire yet," Adrian Sutton said.

"What if they get excited and let something slip? All my effort so far would be for nothing."

"Can’t you just speed things up and seal the deal?"

"You think I don’t want to?" Adrian Sutton glared at him. "I just have to hope Grandpa and Grandma can keep their composure."

Then, he added, turning to Mrs. Rowan, "Auntie, don’t send out the invitations just yet. The day before will be soon enough."

Mrs. Rowan nodded, agreeing to go along with all his plans.

After dinner, the two cousins sat on the balcony, drinking tea and chatting.

Silas Rowan asked him, "You moved the ceremony to the sixth and insisted on inviting so many guests... is it because Gavin Sinclair’s wedding is on the sixth?"

Adrian Sutton’s lips curved into a smirk. "Can’t hide anything from you, can I?"

"Gavin Sinclair’s wedding is on the 6th of next month."

"He’s also invited tons of guests. All the prominent families in Rhonia, big and small, received an invitation."

"I hear it’s going to be an incredibly lavish affair. They’re determined to host the wedding of the century."

"But no matter how lavish the wedding... if none of the guests show up to celebrate..."

"...that scene... will surely be quite a sight to behold."
