Chapter 66: Chapter 66: You Dare Steal My Wife, I’ll Take Your Life

Even though Claire Mercer had blocked Gavin Sinclair on everything.

But Gavin Sinclair was like a ghost you couldn’t shake. The next evening, he showed up at the Mercer family home looking for her.

When he saw that it was Adrian Sutton who had dropped her off, Gavin Sinclair’s eyes blazed with fury.

"This pretty boy—is he the reason you insisted on divorcing me?"

"Is it because of him that you won’t answer my calls? You blocked my number, and you even blocked me on social media."

Claire Mercer took a deep breath, forcing herself to explain patiently.

"The reason I blocked you has nothing to do with anyone else."

"It’s simple: I despise you. I don’t want anything to do with you or the Sinclair family ever again."

"So please, don’t come and bother me again. The very sight of you makes me feel disgusted."

"I don’t believe you," Gavin Sinclair said, his voice rising with agitation.

"You used to love me so much. How could you just fall out of love with me like that...?"

Claire Mercer couldn’t be bothered to respond.

’He’s acting like a madman.’

’Even now, he can’t see his own faults.’

’Every word I say to him is just a waste of time.’

She tried to walk past Gavin Sinclair, but he wheeled his chair in front of her, blocking her path.

"Claire Mercer, what’s your relationship with that man?"

"Why have I been seeing you two fooling around together all the time?"

"Don’t you think you owe me an explanation?"

Claire Mercer looked down, her cold gaze falling on Gavin Sinclair in his wheelchair.

"Why on earth would I need to explain anything to you?"

Gavin Sinclair wheeled himself forward and, in a fit of agitation, grabbed Claire Mercer’s hand.

"You’re with this man all day long! Have you ever once considered my feelings?"

Claire Mercer yanked her hand away and sneered.

"When you were in the hospital room next to mine, doing... *that*... with Scarlett Jewel, did you consider my feelings?"

"When you were faking your leg injury to deceive me for her sake, did you consider my feelings?"

"And now you’re asking me to consider *your* feelings? Why in the world should I?"

"Gavin Sinclair, do you really think you have the right?"

Gavin Sinclair’s voice rose uncontrollably.

"You’re my wife! My legally wedded wife! You tell me if I have the right!"

"Hah... ’Legally wedded wife’?"

Claire Mercer thought about how the Sinclair family had completely duped her, and the anger she had just managed to suppress flared up again.

"Gavin Sinclair, are you really this clueless, or are you just putting on an act for me?"

"What’s that supposed to mean?" Gavin Sinclair asked, looking confused. "What act?"

He might have seemed clueless about the fake marriage certificate right now, but Claire Mercer wasn’t falling for his hypocritical act ever again.

"Your acting has always been superb. The Academy owes you an Oscar for Best Actor."

"But you don’t need to put on a show for me. It gets boring when you overdo it."

Gavin Sinclair quickly tried to explain.

"I really don’t know what you’re talking about..."

"Then I suggest you go back and ask your ’dear’ mother."

"She went to such great lengths for you. You’d better be a good, filial son to her from now on."

With that, Claire Mercer was done with him.

She walked straight past him and through the gates of the Mercer villa.

Watching her walk away and replaying her cryptic words in his mind, Gavin Sinclair wanted to chase after her and demand a clearer explanation.

But Adrian Sutton stopped him.

"Stay away from Claire."

Right now, Gavin Sinclair wanted nothing more than to rip that handsome face of Adrian Sutton’s to shreds.

The thought of how close Adrian had been to Claire recently made his face twist with jealousy.

He glared at him, gritting his teeth as he snarled out the words.

"Who the hell do you think you are? What gives you the right to talk to me like that?"

"You have no say here in Rhonia."

"And don’t think I won’t touch you just because you know the young master of the Rowan Family."

"You dare steal my wife, I’ll dare take your life."

Hearing this, the corner of Adrian Sutton’s mouth lifted into a slight smirk.

He looked down at Gavin Sinclair with utter contempt and coldly spat out a few words.

"Then let’s see who dies first."

Gavin Sinclair was taken aback by his stare and powerful aura.

Despite the sweltering summer heat, he felt a sudden chill in the air.

’Who the hell is this guy?’

’He’s wearing unbranded clothes and driving a cheap electric car...’

’So why does he have such an intimidating presence?’

While Gavin Sinclair was still reeling, he heard Adrian Sutton speak again.

"However, I suggest you go home and figure out whether Claire Mercer is actually your wife."

"What’s that supposed to mean?"

Gavin Sinclair shot back.

"We have a marriage certificate. How could she not be my wife?"

Adrian Sutton scoffed and shot him a contemptuous look.

"Are you sure you have a marriage certificate with her?"

Gavin Sinclair was stunned into silence.

’Why is he speaking in riddles, just like Claire?’

’But I did get a marriage certificate with Claire...’

’Could there be something wrong with our marriage certificate?’

’There’s definitely something I don’t know. I have to go back and get to the bottom of this right away.’

Gavin Sinclair wheeled himself to his car and opened the door.

Before he could get in, he heard Adrian Sutton’s voice, laced with a final warning.

"Gavin Sinclair, you’d best not get any more ideas about Claire."

"Anyone who tries to take my wife from me will meet a very ugly end."

With that, Adrian Sutton drove off in his cheap electric car, leaving Gavin Sinclair in his dust. 𝕗𝐫𝐞𝕖𝕨𝐞𝗯𝚗𝕠𝘃𝐞𝚕.𝐜𝗼𝚖

「Inside the Mercer family villa.」

Claire Mercer hadn’t wanted to come back today.

But Julian Mercer had been calling her nonstop.

He kept guilt-tripping her, bringing up everything he’d done to raise her.

It was so incredibly annoying that she finally caved and came home.

Oscar Mercer, who had been abroad negotiating a project, was also back today.

He was the apple of Julian Mercer and Judith Caldwell’s eye—their precious son.

When he saw her arrive, Oscar Mercer shot her a cold glance before turning his attention back to Scarlett Jewel, handing out the gifts he’d brought back.

"I’ve been busy with a project abroad, so I missed your welcome-home party."

"I bought all these gifts for you while I was away to make up for it."

"See if you like any of them. If not, I’ll just buy you something else."

Scarlett Jewel’s eyes lit up as she gazed at the expensive designer bags, clothes, and jewelry spread before her.

"Oscar, are these... all for me?"

"Of course. Who else would they be for?"

As he spoke, Oscar Mercer glanced toward Claire Mercer, who was standing by the entrance.

"Nothing for my sister?" Scarlett Jewel asked.

Oscar Mercer said, "She’s not my real sister."

"Besides, my money doesn’t grow on trees."

"There’s no reason to bring gifts for someone unimportant."

’Someone unimportant?’

Claire Mercer scoffed internally.

’Half the blood running through his veins is mine.’

’He only escaped death’s door several times because I was there to give him a blood transfusion.’

’And now he calls me unimportant?’

’If it weren’t for me, the grass on Oscar Mercer’s grave would be ten feet tall by now.’

Oscar Mercer was even more cold-blooded than Julian Mercer and Judith Caldwell.

Seeing the displeasure on Claire Mercer’s face, Scarlett Jewel smiled with satisfaction.

She immediately turned to Oscar Mercer and said cheerfully.

"Thank you, Oscar. I love everything you brought."

Claire Mercer watched coldly as the two of them put on a show of deep sibling affection right in front of her.

A short while later, it was time for dinner.

Julian Mercer and Judith Caldwell emerged from the study.

With them was a middle-aged man with a beer belly and a bald spot.
