After Divorce I Married a Tycoon-Chapter 54: Are You Crazy?
Claire Mercer stood to the side, calmly watching Scarlett Jewel.
She looked like she was on the verge of a breakdown but didn’t dare let it show.
The sight was incredibly satisfying.
’Weren’t they saying that the one who isn’t loved is the mistress?’
’So why is she on the verge of a breakdown now that everyone’s pointing fingers at her?’
’So what if she really does marry Gavin Sinclair in the future?’
The word ’mistress’ would follow her for the rest of her life.
It would become the most shameful part of her past, something she’d never want to face.
Meanwhile, Rose Gable looked at Scarlett Jewel with a complicated expression.
Her face was caked in heavy makeup, and her clothes were outrageously flashy.
She was dripping with blindingly gaudy jewelry, not a single piece spared.
It was as if she couldn’t wait to pile every designer accessory she owned onto her body.
"Unbearably tacky" was the most fitting description.
Rose Gable scoffed inwardly:
’Just as expected of someone from the Mercer Family.’
’So utterly unpresentable.’
’But if she was really carrying Gavin’s child, then all this tackiness wouldn’t matter.’
After scrutinizing Scarlett Jewel for a long moment, she finally spoke.
"Are you really... pregnant with Gavin’s child?"
With red-rimmed eyes, Scarlett Jewel bit her lip and nodded.
Then she quickly added an explanation:
"But Ma’am, I’m not a mistress."
"Gavin and I have always been in love."
"We were already together before Gavin married Claire."
Seeing how desperate she was to shed the "mistress" label...
Rose Gable felt an indescribable mix of emotions.
To be honest, whether she was a mistress or not didn’t really matter to her.
After all, she was carrying Gavin’s child.
Besides, in their wealthy circles, there were plenty of women who had started as mistresses and successfully replaced the original wife.
Wasn’t her own mother-in-law one of them, having defeated the original wife to claim her spot?
Right now, the most important thing to her was the child in Scarlett’s belly.
"Do you know if it’s a boy or a girl?" Rose Gable asked.
If it was a boy, it would be wonderful news.
In the future, everything the Sinclair Family owned would be inherited by this eldest grandson.
Scarlett Jewel said delicately, "It’s still a little too early in the pregnancy to tell."
Rose Gable’s expression dimmed, but she quickly asked, "Have your food cravings changed since you got pregnant?"
Scarlett Jewel nodded. "I never used to like sour things."
"But ever since I got pregnant, I have to eat something sour every day to feel right."
At these words, Rose Gable’s eyes lit up.
Sour for a boy, spicy for a girl...
Back when she was pregnant with Gavin, she had craved sour foods.
She could eat two lemons a day, the kind so sour they’d make other people’s teeth ache.
And sure enough, she gave birth to a boy.
So, it was highly likely that Scarlett Jewel was carrying a boy.
At that thought, Rose Gable was so excited her whole body trembled.
This was the Sinclair Family’s eldest great-grandson...
The precious grandson of their family’s main branch.
The matriarch was getting on in years; who knew when she might...
If their branch of the family could produce the Sinclair’s first great-grandson...
...then wouldn’t control over the Sinclair Family fall right into their hands?
From this perspective, even though this Scarlett Jewel wasn’t very presentable...
...she was a lucky star for their branch of the family, an absolute heroine.
In an instant, the way Rose Gable looked at Scarlett Jewel completely changed.
She was so excited she forgot they were currently targeting Claire Mercer.
She wanted nothing more than to rush over and put Scarlett Jewel on a pedestal.
Suppressing her surging excitement, she patted Scarlett Jewel’s hand.
Seeing this, Julian Mercer and Judith Caldwell were grinning from ear to ear.
Observing the scene, Claire Mercer scoffed derisively.
’As expected, most people in these elite circles are completely shameless.’
’Few of them seem to care about morality.’
’But this is a good thing.’
’Look at how excited Rose Gable is...’
’My divorce should probably go much more smoothly now.’
With that thought, she felt a great sense of relief.
She couldn’t be bothered to look at the people in front of her any longer.
She turned to head into the banquet hall.
But Cynthia Sinclair, like a vicious dog, latched onto her and refused to let go.
"Don’t think you can just sneak in because you’ve distracted my mom."
"I’m a very righteous person. I can’t stand phonies like you."
"Besides, you abandoned my injured brother, yet you have the nerve to come to a party you don’t belong at with this male model..."
Before she could finish, Claire Mercer cut her off coldly.
"Cynthia Sinclair, are you insane?"
She had reached her limit with Cynthia Sinclair.
Tolerating her antics for this long was the most she could do.
"I’m here to attend Mrs. Rowan’s banquet, and you’re over here jumping around like a clown..."
"What, are you that desperate for attention? How about I make your little secrets public?"
At these words, Cynthia Sinclair felt a flicker of fear.
’But then she remembered that her grandmother and mother already knew about her and Evan Young.’
’So she had nothing to be afraid of anymore.’
’Besides, Claire Mercer couldn’t produce any evidence.’
’Who would believe her lies with nothing but her word to back it up?’
’If she dared to make anything public, Cynthia would just sue her for slander and defamation.’
With that thought, Cynthia Sinclair’s confidence returned.
"Claire Mercer, you really are despicable."
"Shamelessly using a fake invitation to try and fool everyone." 𝗳𝚛𝗲𝕖𝕨𝕖𝗯𝚗𝚘𝕧𝕖𝗹.𝗰𝗼𝕞
"And now that I’ve exposed you, you’re flying into a rage..."
Before she could finish, Silas Rowan walked out of the banquet hall.
His gaze swept over the group at the entrance, his brow furrowing slightly.
"What’s going on? I could hear guests inside talking about the commotion out here."
When Cynthia Sinclair saw Silas Rowan, she immediately stepped forward, pointing at Claire Mercer.
"Young Master Rowan, it’s her."
"To get into Mrs. Rowan’s birthday banquet, she got a fake invitation from who knows where."
Hearing this, Silas Rowan’s eyes narrowed.
"You’re saying her invitation is fake?"
Cynthia Sinclair nodded.
Then she snatched the invitation from Claire Mercer’s hand and handed it to Silas Rowan.
"Look, Young Master Rowan. Her invitation isn’t the same as ours."
"She knew we wouldn’t bring her to the banquet, so she deliberately got a fake one to try and sneak in."
At her words, Silas Rowan’s gaze turned several degrees colder.
"Are you suggesting that the invitation I gave her is fake?"
Cynthia Sinclair froze, completely stunned.
"Huh?"
She couldn’t process it for a moment. "Young Master Rowan, what do you mean by that?"
"Idiot," Adrian Sutton remarked, glancing at her with disgust.
"Try to bring your brain with you next time you leave the house."
Toward Silas Rowan, Cynthia Sinclair was completely respectful and polite.
No matter how spoiled and domineering she was, she knew she couldn’t afford to offend the man standing before her.
But when facing Adrian Sutton, her arrogant, domineering "young miss" attitude revealed itself again.
Rose Gable tried to stop her, but it was too late.
She glared furiously at Adrian Sutton and snarled:
"You’re just some lowly male model. Who gave you the right to speak here?"
"How dare you call me an idiot? Believe it or not, I can make sure you have no place left in Rhonia."
Before Adrian Sutton could reply, Silas Rowan spoke.
"I don’t think it’s necessary for any of you to attend today’s banquet."
