After Divorce I Married a Tycoon-Chapter 45: The Sinclair Family Prepares to Catch an Adulterer
Before leaving for Crestfall Villa, Claire Mercer found Mrs. Sinclair to say goodbye.
She couldn’t just leave without saying a word; that would be incredibly rude.
Mrs. Sinclair didn’t ask her to spend the night at the old family estate, instead arranging for a driver to take her home.
"There’s no need, Grandma. I can just get a taxi back."
Mrs. Sinclair’s expression darkened. "You’re a young woman. Why on earth would you take a taxi at night?"
"Does the Sinclair family not have a car to take you home?"
"If we let the Young Madam of the great Sinclair family take a taxi home, what would people think of us if word got out?"
Claire Mercer found it hard to refuse. "Alright, thank you, Grandma."
Just then, Liam Sinclair, who was also about to leave, happened to pass by.
He said to Mrs. Sinclair, "Grandma, since I’m heading out anyway, why don’t I give Claire a ride?"
"Give her a ride? What are you talking about?" Mrs. Sinclair shot him a sideways glare.
"A brother-in-law and sister-in-law, alone together... What do you think people would say if they saw you?"
Liam Sinclair replied, "I’m just giving her a lift, that’s all. It’s not as scandalous as you’re making it sound..."
"That’s enough," Mrs. Sinclair cut him off.
"You can fool around all you want outside, but don’t you dare get any ideas about your sister-in-law."
"I’ve already arranged for a driver to take her. Now, you can go about your business."
Liam Sinclair was speechless.
’So much for trying to be helpful. No good deed goes unpunished.’
’No matter how much of a scoundrel he was, he would never make a move on his own sister-in-law, would he?’
’He couldn’t stand Gavin Sinclair, it was true, and the two of them had been at odds since childhood.’
’But he wasn’t an animal. How could he possibly develop feelings for his sister-in-law?’
’He had no idea why Grandma was so agitated, or why she would think of him in such a way.’
Liam Sinclair drove off in a huff.
Seeing how Mrs. Sinclair had just defended her reputation, even worrying that she might be harassed by a playboy like Liam Sinclair... Claire Mercer couldn’t help but feel a little grateful toward the old woman.
After saying her goodbyes, she got into the car Mrs. Sinclair had arranged.
But partway through the drive, she began to feel her head grow dizzy and heavy.
Before they even reached Crestfall Villa, she had fallen into a deep sleep in the car.
Noticing the silence from the back seat, the driver glanced in the rearview mirror.
"Young Madam? Young Madam?..."p>
He called out several times but received no response.
Only then was the driver certain that she had passed out completely.
He immediately made a phone call to Mrs. Sinclair.
"Old Madam, she has passed out."
The person on the other end of the line commanded, "The hotel room is ready. Bring her there directly."
The driver thought about what Mrs. Sinclair wanted him to do to the Young Madam, and a chill ran down his spine.
’This is the Young Madam of the wealthiest family in the country, after all.’
’If this ever came to light, he would face terrible consequences.’
’But the Old Madam had given him this task. If he didn’t do it, his high-paying job would be gone.’
In the end, driven by the money, he gritted his teeth.
Following Mrs. Sinclair’s instructions, he took Claire Mercer to a hotel owned by the Sinclair family.
The entire time, he failed to notice an inconspicuous sedan tailing his car.
He brought the unconscious Claire Mercer to the hotel and opened the door to the room that had been prepared in advance.
After calling Mrs. Sinclair to report, he was just about to follow her instructions.
Suddenly, a hand chopped down on the back of his neck, and he collapsed, unconscious.
Adrian Sutton’s bodyguard looked at the unconscious driver and asked his boss.
"Boss, what should we do with this man?"
Adrian Sutton’s cold eyes stared fixedly at the well-built driver.
"Where is that delinquent from the Sinclair family?"
The bodyguard replied, "She’s out clubbing with her posse."
Adrian Sutton commanded coldly, "Find a way to get her here."
"The old hag went to all this trouble. We can’t just let her ’kindness’ go to waste."
The bodyguard said, "Yes, sir. I’ll have our people bring her over immediately."
Adrian Sutton said, "That little delinquent is a lecher."
"She likes them tall, handsome, and well-built. Have Ethan make a little sacrifice."
The bodyguard silently lit a candle for Ethan in his heart, then nodded. "Understood."
He then made a call to the bodyguard named Ethan.
When Ethan received the boss’s instructions, his stomach turned.
’The boss was asking him to use himself as bait...’
’His handsome face and amazing physique suddenly felt like a burden.’
’If he had known he’d have to seduce that Sinclair delinquent, he would have wished he were ugly.’
’Anything would be better than having to stomach this.’
Ethan, who had been secretly watching Cynthia Sinclair, shot her a look of disgust.
Then, he put on a devastatingly charming smile and "accidentally" brushed up against Cynthia Sinclair.
As expected, the moment Cynthia Sinclair saw Ethan, she was captivated by his handsome, charming face.
As he drank with her, her wandering hands roamed "casually" across his chest.
Ethan was so disgusted he almost threw up on the spot.
What made it even worse was that, despite feeling utterly nauseated, he had to keep a smile plastered on his face for her.p>
’After this mission was over,’ he decided, ’he was going to demand hazard pay from the boss.’
The rest of the plan went smoothly.
Ethan successfully brought the dead-drunk Cynthia Sinclair to the hotel.
「Early the next morning.」
Mrs. Sinclair, with Rose Gable in tow, stormed into the hotel, ready to catch an adulterer in the act.
Rose Gable, who was not in on the scheme, yawned as she asked the matriarch.
"Mom, why on earth did you drag me to a hotel this early in the morning?"
"Someone told me they saw my ’darling’ granddaughter-in-law getting a room here last night with a man."
"What?" At these words, Rose Gable was instantly wide awake.
"Are you saying Claire Mercer got a room with another man?"
Mrs. Sinclair shot her a sidelong glance. "Why are you making such a fuss? Hurry up and contact some paparazzi."
Upon hearing this, Rose Gable complained unhappily.
"Mom, why would we call the paparazzi for something like this?"
"If word gets out, who knows how people will laugh at Gavin."
"You really are a brainless fool." Mrs. Sinclair couldn’t resist poking Rose Gable on the forehead.
"Do you or do you not want Gavin to divorce her?"
"Of course I do," said Rose Gable.
"I’ve looked down on her from the start. A broke girl from some backwater family—how could she ever be worthy of my Gavin?"
Mrs. Sinclair glanced at her.
"But your ’precious son’ cheated on her right after his legs healed, and his mistress is pregnant."
"If they divorce now, who do you think the public will condemn?"
"What about the Sinclair family’s reputation? Do you even care?"
"Try using that pig brain of yours for once and think it through."
Hearing this, Rose Gable’s eyes darted back and forth for a moment before realization finally dawned.
"So, this whole charade of catching her in the act... you planned it all?"
Mrs. Sinclair shot her a glare. "What do you think?"
"But... haven’t you always been very fond of Claire Mercer?" Rose Gable asked, still confused.
"Fond of her?" Mrs. Sinclair scoffed. "As if she’s worthy of my affection."
"Enough talk. Contact the vultures. The bigger the scandal, the better."
’An unfaithful woman will always be spurned by society.’
’When a man cheats, it’s seen as a mere dalliance. People gossip for a while, and then they move on.’
’Besides, which man in their wealthy circle didn’t have a few mistresses on the side?’
’But a cheating wife had to face judgment from all quarters.’
’Yes, the Sinclairs’ daughter-in-law having an affair would cause some mockery from outsiders.’
’But that was a harmless scratch compared to being accused of casting someone aside after they’ve outlived their usefulness.’
’Once the public learned of Claire Mercer’s affair, the Sinclair family would have a perfectly justifiable reason to kick her to the curb.’
The thought that her son could finally divorce that broke girl spurred Rose Gable into action. She immediately found someone to contact the paparazzi, telling them to get there as fast as they could.
