Chapter 41: Chapter 41: Rotten to the Core

Claire Mercer stared coldly at Gavin Sinclair, who was lying there like a dead pig, for a long moment.

Only then did she speak, her voice frigid.

"Just dump him back at the Sinclair family estate."

"Shouldn’t we take him to the hospital to get his wounds treated?" Adrian Sutton asked.

"His arm is still bleeding, and it looks like the bone in his right kneecap is fractured."

Claire Mercer stared at Gavin Sinclair and said expressionlessly,

"All the better if it’s fractured. That way, he won’t be able to harm anyone else in the future."

It was only because of her dedicated and meticulous care over the past two years that Gavin Sinclair’s legs had recovered so quickly.

She never expected that he would show not a shred of gratitude and would instead try to destroy her.

The man was a complete and utter scumbag. If he ended up crippled again, he would have no one to blame but himself.

Hearing Claire Mercer’s words, Adrian Sutton was a little surprised.

The woman she used to be had eyes only for Gavin Sinclair.

She had even wasted two years of her youth on him.

She had nearly lost herself while caring for his crippled form day in and day out.

But now, seeing him injured, bleeding, and having passed out from the pain...

Claire’s reaction to him was surprisingly cold.

He had thought she would feel at least a little bit of pity for him.

But from start to finish, her gaze toward Gavin Sinclair had been nothing but icy.

It was even tinged with a deep sense of disgust.

’This is great!’

’It proves Claire is completely over him.’

’She truly doesn’t love him anymore.’

’Gavin Sinclair is completely out of the picture.’

For Adrian, this was undoubtedly a fantastic development.

However, after a moment of thought, Adrian Sutton suggested,

"We should still take him to the hospital to get his wounds treated."

"After all, he was injured in a house that’s under your name."

"If the Sinclair Family decides to investigate, you could be in trouble."

Although he could help her handle the matter behind the scenes, no matter how it was dealt with, the Sinclairs would definitely make things difficult for Claire.

After all, their precious son had been injured at Claire’s place.

So they would undoubtedly direct all their fury at Claire.

He didn’t want Claire to be put in danger.

Even though taking him to the hospital might not be enough to placate the Sinclairs, it was at least slightly better than just dumping him at the entrance of the Sinclair estate.

Claire Mercer thought for a moment, then nodded.

In the end, the two of them took Gavin Sinclair to the same hospital where Claire Mercer had stayed last time.

They registered him for the emergency room.

When the doctor was treating the wound on Gavin Sinclair’s arm, he acted as if he had a personal vendetta against him.

He was particularly rough, and the pain was so intense that it jolted Gavin Sinclair, who had just passed out, back to consciousness.

The moment he woke up, he roared at the doctor treating his wound.

"Do you even know how to treat a wound? Can’t you be a little more gentle?"

The doctor shot him a cold glance and said flatly,

"Your wound isn’t very deep, but it needs to be disinfected thoroughly."

"Wounds are naturally painful, and disinfecting them will certainly intensify that pain. Don’t you even understand something so basic?"

"If you’re so afraid of pain, why even come to a hospital? You could have just treated it at home."

Gavin Sinclair’s face was pale with pain, his tone hostile. "That’s still no reason to be so rough, is it?"

"Fine, you do it yourself." With that, the doctor handed him the disinfecting tool.

"Is this how you treat your patients?" Gavin Sinclair snapped. "Watch out, or I’ll file a complaint against you."

The doctor unhurriedly recited a string of numbers.

"There’s the complaint hotline for you."

’He was only being so rough because he’d received instructions from his superiors.’

’Afraid of his complaint?’

’The higher-ups said not to show any mercy to this patient.’

’The more pain, the better.’

Gavin Sinclair gritted his teeth and glared at the doctor, saying nothing more.

Once the wound on his arm was treated, the doctor said,

"You have a suspected fracture in your right leg. You’ll need a CT scan and an X-ray."

"Go pay the fees first."

Gavin Sinclair, furious and anxious, shot back, "How am I supposed to pay in this state?"

The doctor was unmoved. "Without payment, we can’t do a detailed examination."

Only then did Gavin Sinclair remember Claire Mercer. "Where are the people who brought me to the hospital?" he asked.

"I don’t know," the doctor said flatly.

"I’m only responsible for treating patients’ wounds. The whereabouts of other people are not within my purview."

Gavin Sinclair was so angry he could barely breathe. "..."

He strongly suspected this doctor was targeting him on purpose.

But he had no proof.

He took out his phone to call Claire Mercer.

The phone rang for a long time with no answer, making Gavin Sinclair so furious he nearly smashed it.

Helpless, he had no choice but to call his family and have them come over to pay for him.

As soon as Rose Gable heard that Gavin Sinclair was at the hospital waiting for her to come pay, she immediately headed over.

Meanwhile, outside the emergency room,

Claire Mercer watched Gavin Sinclair howling in pain. Seeing his wretched state put her in a much better mood.

Once she saw him call the Sinclair family, she left the hospital immediately.

When Rose Gable arrived, she saw her son’s swollen face, injured arm, and what looked like a fractured right kneecap...

Her heart immediately ached for him so much her eyes began to turn red.

"Oh, my son, it’s only been a few days. How did you let yourself get into such a state?"

"Which son of a bitch beat your face like this?"

"And where is that little bitch, Claire Mercer?"

"You’re so seriously injured, why isn’t she here with you?"

"Is that little bitch trying to rebel or something?"

Gavin Sinclair grew irritable under her barrage of questions.

His brow furrowed deeper and deeper, and his tone was extremely impatient.

"Mom, can you just stop asking so many questions?"

"Can’t you see I’m in unbearable pain?"

"Just go pay the fees first, alright?"

Rose Gable nodded repeatedly. "Okay, okay, Mom will go pay right now."

"I’ll settle the score with that little bitch later."

「Meanwhile.」

After Claire Mercer left the hospital, Adrian Sutton drove her back to Crestfall Villa.

She had barely stepped through the door when a call came in from Rose Gable.

"Hello, Mom—"

Rose Gable’s shrill voice blasted from the other end of the line, nearly shattering Claire Mercer’s eardrums.

"You still have the nerve to call me Mom? Do you have any idea that your husband is injured and in the hospital?"

Claire Mercer held the phone a little further away before replying coolly,

"I know."

"If you know, then why aren’t you at the hospital taking care of him?" Rose Gable shot back sharply.

"I even had to come handle a trivial matter like paying the fees. What kind of Sinclair family daughter-in-law are you?"

Claire Mercer said, "I’m about to divorce him. What does it matter to me whether he’s injured or not?"

"The matriarch said she won’t agree to your divorce, so you can just give up on that idea."

Although she didn’t know why the matriarch was against their divorce either.

But this way, the fact that she had used fake marriage photos to deceive Claire Mercer would remain a secret.

But the thought of her son being held back and burdened for life by this little bitch, Claire Mercer... made her feel extremely displeased.

Her son could have clearly married a lady from a prestigious family who could have helped his career reach new heights.

But the matriarch of the family just had to oppose their divorce, which was tantamount to ruining her precious son’s future.

The more Rose Gable thought about it, the angrier she became, and naturally, the more she despised Claire Mercer.
