After Divorce I Married a Tycoon-Chapter 39: That’s If You Can Kill Me
Claire Mercer was panicking.
Last time, Scarlett Jewel had suddenly called Gavin Sinclair away.
She had just called her a moment ago. Surely Scarlett could call Gavin away this time too, right?
She prayed that Scarlett would call Gavin soon.
Whether it got him to leave or not, it would at least buy her some time to escape.
Looking at Gavin’s current state, he would probably try to force himself on her.
The Gavin Sinclair before her seemed to have completely lost his mind.
He was like a wild beast in heat.
His eyes, filled with lust, were fixed on his target.
Poised to strike, he was clearly ready to pounce on her at any moment.
Just then, Gavin Sinclair’s phone rang.
’It must be Scarlett,’ Claire thought.
’If it’s really her, will Gavin leave suddenly like last time?’
Claire’s heart was pounding, THUMP-THUMP-THUMP, as if it would burst from her chest. She was terrified.
"Your phone is ringing. It must be Scarlett," she reminded him.
But to her surprise, Gavin had no intention of answering the phone.
He let the ringtone echo through the empty living room.
"Why aren’t you answering?" Claire asked anxiously. "What if something’s happened to Scarlett?"
Gavin said, "Even if something happened, her parents are with her. What’s there to be afraid of?"
He was in no mood to worry about Scarlett right now.
Claire pressed, "She’s carrying your child. Aren’t you worried something might happen to the baby?"
Gavin retorted, "Since when are you so worried about the child in her belly?"
"Besides, she’s just pregnant. So what?"
"If something really happens, we can just have one, can’t we?"
Hearing this, Claire lamented inwardly. The man before her was truly an out-and-out scumbag.
Fortunately, the kitchen was just behind her to the left. There were tools in there she could use for self-defense.
’If it comes down to it, I’ll fight him to the death.’
With that thought, Claire backed away toward the familiar layout of the kitchen.
Consumed by lust, Gavin’s only thought was to throw Claire to the ground. He paid no mind to the fact that the kitchen was right behind her. 𝙧𝙚𝙚𝔀𝒆𝓫𝓷𝙤𝓿𝒆𝙡.𝒄𝙤𝓶
Just as Claire was about to turn and run into the kitchen, Gavin seemed to see right through her.
He lunged forward and grabbed her from behind.
He held Claire tightly in his arms, pinning her so she couldn’t move.
No matter how she struggled, she felt she couldn’t move an inch.
His hot breath, reeking of alcohol, instantly washed over her fair, white neck.
His breathing was like maggots crawling on her skin—sticky and nauseating as it moved across her neck.
The sensation made her feel utterly disgusted. She wanted to break free, but she couldn’t.
It was suffocating and left her feeling hopeless.
Only at this moment did Claire finally understand the sheer difference in strength between a man and a woman.
In his eyes, her resistance was like the flailing of a clown.
Helpless, Claire could only try to reason with him.
"Gavin Sinclair, I’m warning you, don’t do anything rash."
"Regardless of the relationship, forcing someone to have sex against their will is rape."
"You’ve heard of marital rape, haven’t you? That’s a crime, too."
"You’re the great young master of the Sinclair Family, the wealthiest in Rhonia. Do you really want to be branded a rapist?"
"If you end up in prison for rape, you’ll bring shame to the entire Sinclair Family."
"When that happens, will your position as the Sinclair Family’s heir still be yours?"
Hearing this, Gavin let out a sinister laugh.
To him, Claire’s words were a joke.
’Go to prison for rape? Impossible.’
Unmoved, Gavin began to caress her arms with restless hands.
"You don’t have to worry about that. If I dare to do this, then I’m obviously not afraid of you reporting me."
"Because no matter how you try, the judge will just classify this as a marital dispute. Understand?"
"The power of my Sinclair Family is not something you or the Mercer Family behind you can fight."
"Claire Mercer, you know you can’t fight back."
"So instead of this futile struggle, you might as well just obediently submit to me."
"That way, you’ll suffer less, won’t you?"
With that, Gavin buried his head in her hair and took a deep breath.
Claire was so frantic that tears were about to stream down her face.
"Gavin Sinclair, I never thought you could be such a despicable, shameless person."
She had wasted two whole years of her life on a scumbag like this.
Her experience was the perfect illustration of the saying, "wasting your youth on a dog."
But dogs, at least, could understand people and show gratitude.
The Gavin Sinclair of this moment, however, was worse than an animal.
"I already told you, if you please me tonight, I might get happy and agree to a divorce tomorrow."
"For someone so desperate to divorce me, this is a deal you can’t lose."
After speaking, Gavin twisted both her hands behind her back, holding them tightly with one of his own.
His other hand, meanwhile, tried to slip inside the collar of her shirt.
It was at that moment that Claire bit down hard on his arm.
She used all her strength, as if she wouldn’t let go until she’d torn off a piece of his flesh.
Finally, the pain in his arm made Gavin cry out.
Because of this, he was forced to let Claire go.
"You fucking dare to bite me?"
He glared at Claire with a murderous look in his eyes, glancing down from time to time at the wound on his arm.
Claire seized the opportunity to scramble into the kitchen.
Unfortunately, the kitchen door couldn’t be locked from the inside.
She could only frantically grab a kitchen knife from the counter.
Gripping the knife tightly, she faced Gavin as he charged in after her.
"Gavin Sinclair, if you dare come any closer, don’t blame me for what happens next."
Although the kitchen was somewhat dim, the light from the living room still glinted off the blade’s razor-sharp edge.
Even so, this didn’t scare Gavin off. He was sure she wouldn’t dare to actually use it on him.
He wasn’t intimidated by the knife in Claire’s hand. Instead, he just smiled at her.
"What, are you going to murder your own dear husband?"
A glimmer of tears shone in Claire’s eyes, but her expression was one of grim determination, as if ready to face death.
"Gavin Sinclair, if it comes to that, I’ll just take you down with me."
"I have nothing left anyway. My father doesn’t care, my mother doesn’t love me, and my husband is a scumbag."
"I don’t have much hope for the future, either."
"So if I die, it’s no big loss."
"But you’re different."
"You have the Sinclair Family to inherit, and you have a mother and father who love you."
"It would be a huge loss if you were to die by my knife."
At her words, Gavin scoffed.
"That depends on whether you can actually kill me."
Claire said, "Don’t underestimate a woman’s determination to protect herself."
"Then do it. Come on, swing it at me..."
As he spoke, Gavin closed in on Claire.
