Chapter 29: Chapter 29: A Fierce Punch to Gavin Sinclair’s Face

Adrian Sutton couldn’t be bothered to deal with Julian Mercer and his wife any longer.

He scanned the room, searching for a sign of Claire Mercer.

Even if she had just gone to the restroom, Claire should have been back by now.

But several minutes had passed, and he still hadn’t seen any trace of her in the banquet hall.

More importantly, he’d just realized that bastard Gavin Sinclair had also vanished from the banquet hall.

’Could he have cornered Claire?’

He was terrified that Claire would forgive Gavin Sinclair and change her mind about divorcing him.

Even though Claire had seemed absolutely determined to divorce Gavin Sinclair... 𝑓𝑟ℯ𝘦𝓌𝘦𝘣𝑛𝑜𝓋𝑒𝓁.𝑐ℴ𝓂

she had once been so obsessed with that scumbag, completely devoted to him.

Given how lovesick she used to be, there was no guarantee she wouldn’t be swayed again by a few of his sweet lies.

At that thought, he immediately turned and headed in the direction of the restrooms.

Seeing this, Silas Rowan quickly followed him.

"Why are you following me?" Adrian Sutton stopped short, frowning slightly at Silas Rowan.

’I’m just here to see if Claire is in the restroom. What is he doing following me?’

"Can’t I use the restroom?"

Silas Rowan found his question completely baffling.

"Fine," Adrian Sutton said.

"After you’re done, just head back by yourself. I’m going to look for Claire."

At these words, Silas Rowan was momentarily stunned.

"Bro, are you just going to ditch me?"

Adrian Sutton shot Silas Rowan an irritated glance.

"You’re a thirty-year-old man. Can’t you take care of yourself?"

Silas Rowan immediately corrected him with a serious expression.

"I’m only twenty-seven."

’Thirty-year-old man, my ass.’

"Besides, if you hadn’t asked me to come with you, do you think I’d set foot in this toxic cesspool?"

"And look at you! The moment you’re done using me, you can’t wait to burn the bridge. Is that any way to treat a person?"

"Enough talk. I’m going to find Claire. You’re on your own."

With that, Adrian Sutton left a resentful-looking Silas Rowan behind.

He began weaving through the banquet hall, searching everywhere for Claire Mercer.

Finally, in the back garden of the banquet hall, he saw the person he’d been desperately looking for.

And just as he’d feared, that bastard Gavin Sinclair was there too.

The banquet hall was a cacophony of voices, so he couldn’t make out what the two of them were saying.

Then, he saw them start to argue.

Claire Mercer tried to leave, but Gavin Sinclair blocked her path and pulled her into a hug.

No matter how much Claire Mercer struggled, Gavin Sinclair wouldn’t let go.

He was even... trying to force a kiss on her.

Seeing this, a wave of fury instantly washed over Adrian Sutton, boiling through his entire body.

His eyes bloodshot, he immediately strode forward and landed a heavy punch on Gavin Sinclair’s face.

Gavin Sinclair was caught completely off guard and fell right to the ground.

In the dim light, he saw the pretty boy glaring at him with a murderous expression.

The man’s gaze was dark and sharp.

It was like a poison-tipped sword, as if he wanted nothing more than to run him through.

The oppressive aura he radiated made the air around them feel like it had dropped several degrees.

Gavin Sinclair was a man of the world.

But in that instant, he was startled by the other man’s sheer presence.

But who was he?

The crown prince of the Sinclair Family.

How could he let some pretty boy walk all over him and get away with it?

His status wouldn’t allow it.

He’d been punched for no reason, and there was no way he was going to let it slide.

He spat fiercely, clearing the taste of blood from his mouth.

Wiping the blood from the corner of his mouth, Gavin Sinclair got to his feet.

He glared viciously at Adrian Sutton, spitting out a few words through clenched teeth.

"You little prick, are you fucking asking to die?"

"You’re the one who’s asking to die!"

Adrian Sutton’s eyes were dark, and the veins on his clenched fists bulged.

The very air seemed to freeze over with his anger.

Maybe it was just the chill of the night air.

But Claire Mercer felt a shiver run down her spine.

"If you dare try to force Miss Mercer again..."

"Force her?" Gavin Sinclair sneered. "She’s my wife. It’s perfectly reasonable for me to kiss her."

"Even if I go home tonight and we..."

Before he could finish his sentence, Gavin Sinclair’s other cheek took a solid punch from Adrian Sutton.

Adrian Sutton clenched his jaw, his gaze radiating a bone-chilling cold.

"Watch your mouth."

Having been punched twice in a row, Gavin Sinclair’s rage was about to consume his reason.

"Believe it or not, I could crush you as easily as an ant."

A corner of Adrian Sutton’s mouth lifted in a contemptuous smirk. "You can try."

Gavin Sinclair truly wanted to rush over and cripple this pretty boy.

But then he remembered this man seemed to have some connection to Silas Rowan, and his bravado immediately deflated.

"I know you have Silas Rowan backing you up, but I, Gavin Sinclair, am no pushover either."

"Is that so?" Deep mockery tinged the corners of Adrian Sutton’s lips and eyes.

"You can’t even handle a hospital director. So much for the Sinclair Family’s power."

"Without the Sinclair Family’s halo protecting you, you’re not shit."

Gavin Sinclair’s already swollen features twisted further with rage.

"You..."

Staring at the two men, who were at each other’s throats, her mind went blank for a moment.

When she came to her senses, she immediately stepped forward to pull the two of them apart.

Not wanting the commotion to attract the other guests, Claire Mercer said to Gavin Sinclair,

"Gavin Sinclair, you punched him yesterday. He punched you back today. It’s fair."

Gavin Sinclair emphasized resentfully, "He hit me twice."

"You started it yesterday. It’s only reasonable for him to claim a little interest."

"What did you say? Reasonable? You’re actually defending this pretty boy?" Gavin Sinclair stared, wide-eyed.

"Claire Mercer, do you have any idea whose wife you are?"

"Yours, in name only," Claire Mercer replied lightly. "But not for much longer."

"That eager to divorce me?" Gavin Sinclair scoffed. "I’m telling you, dream on."

Claire Mercer’s expression remained completely unruffled.

She just said coldly, "Then I’ll see you in court."

"And when the time comes, if your affair with Scarlett Jewel becomes the talk of the town, don’t blame me for not saving face for the Sinclair Family."

With that said, she couldn’t be bothered to waste another word on Gavin Sinclair and turned to leave.

She didn’t want to see Gavin Sinclair anymore, didn’t want to be anywhere near him.

The thick stench he exuded polluted the very air around him.

Taking another breath was a form of torture for her.

After the two of them left through the garden’s back gate, they followed a winding path toward the Mercer Family’s main entrance.

Claire Mercer didn’t even bother saying goodbye to Julian Mercer and Judith Caldwell.

’Besides, they’re surely busy parading their biological daughter around, networking and showing her off.’

’When would they have the time or energy to deal with the superfluous member of the Mercer Family?’

On the way, Claire Mercer asked Adrian Sutton, "How did you get here?"

"I came in Silas Rowan’s car," he said, then quickly added, "But Silas just left."

Even though Silas Rowan’s car was still parked in the Mercer Family’s lot.

But what did that matter?

He just wanted to create more opportunities to spend time with Claire.

As for Silas Rowan, he was a thirty-year-old adult. He could take care of himself.
