After Divorce I Married a Tycoon-Chapter 155: The Mysterious Big Shot
The grand opening ceremony was held at Rhonia Stadium.
The ceremony was scheduled for 6:06 PM.
At three in the afternoon, Claire Mercer and her four companions took Silas Rowan’s luxury minivan to the stadium.
With the arrival of August Thorne, FS, and other popular celebrities, the main road to the stadium was completely gridlocked by fans who had flocked from all over the country.
Gazing out the window at the various fan groups holding up their light-up signs, Roxanne Peyton couldn’t help but remark,
"CZ Group really has money to burn."
"They must have spent a fortune just on hiring all these celebrities, right?"
Claire Mercer said, "I’d guess at least tens of millions."
"But they’re not stupid. The whole point of spending so much on A-list celebrities is to generate buzz for the competition."
"Once more people are paying attention, the viewership will naturally go up. They’ll make a killing from the ad placements alone."
"After all, not only will the competition be broadcast live exclusively worldwide on Lynx Television, but it’ll also be available for replay on various streaming platforms."
"Businessmen never make a deal they’ll lose money on. Every move is calculated for profit."
Roxanne Peyton nodded, then asked curiously,
"I heard the general manager of the CZ branch is attending the opening ceremony tonight."
"I wonder if their mysterious big boss will show up."
Claire Mercer said, "He’s an internationally renowned figure. Why would he show up at a small-time event like this?"
"I heard he’s the youngest billionaire on the Forbes list, and also the most mysterious. He’s never made a public appearance, so no one knows what he looks like."
"What do you think? Maybe the reason he won’t show his face is because he’s hideously ugly. That’s why he doesn’t dare be seen by anyone, right?"
The moment she said that, a certain mysterious tycoon—the one suspected of hiding his face for being too ugly—choked on the bottled water he had just started to drink.
He coughed violently a few times, his face turning red.
Claire Mercer quickly asked him with a hint of concern,
"Why are you coughing so hard all of a sudden?"
Adrian Sutton shook his head and answered in a hoarse voice,
"I’m fine. The car just hit a bump, and the water went down the wrong pipe."
"Oh, okay. For a second, I thought you were catching a cold."
"No."
Watching the tycoon who had nearly coughed up a lung, Silas Rowan barely managed to stifle his laughter.
’Go on, hide it!’
’Keep hiding it!’
’I can’t wait to see how you’ll get yourself out of this when your identity is finally exposed!’
Silas nearly gave himself an internal injury holding back his laughter, forcing him to turn toward the window and crack a smile.
The talk of the mysterious tycoon piqued Stella Thorne’s interest. With a gossipy expression, she started sharing what she’d heard about the mega-rich mogul with Claire and Roxanne.
"Back when I was in my modeling workshops, I heard a lot of the contestants this time are here specifically for that mysterious tycoon."
"I mean, he’s one of the ten wealthiest people in the world and the undisputed richest man in the country."
"If you could catch his eye, even for just one night together, the payout would probably be more than you could spend in a lifetime."
"But, like Claire said, I heard that even though he’s accomplished all this before he’s even thirty, he’s supposed to be really ugly. I heard he even has dwarfism, and that’s why he’s not willing to appear in public."
Claire Mercer laughed. "Stella, everything about his appearance is just a rumor. Nobody knows what he actually looks like."
"So, putting all that aside, it wouldn’t be a problem for someone with your assets to catch his attention."
"The other models might have great figures, but they’re not as beautiful as you. And the beautiful ones don’t have a figure like yours..."
"If this tycoon is secretly watching the competition from the shadows, he might really take a fancy to you."
After teasing her, Claire Mercer gave her shoulder a little nudge with a grin.
Stella Thorne immediately made a look of mock horror and waved her hands dismissively.
"Forget it, forget it. If he’s afraid to be seen in public, he must be hideous."
"I’m not into ugly guys. I don’t care how rich he is, I just couldn’t bring myself to do it."
"Besides, a guy like that is definitely surrounded by countless beauties. He’s probably got who-knows-how-many illegitimate children."
"I would never want to live a life of backstabbing and intrigue just for money. Would you, Claire?"
Claire Mercer quickly waved her hands as well, saying with a laugh,
"No, thanks. Like you said, a mega-rich tycoon like him must be surrounded by women of all types."
"For all we know, he might have a mistress in every country. I have no desire to become a member of his harem."
"I might not have a lot of money, but I have absolutely no interest in fighting with a horde of other women for one man’s affection just for a payday."
"Besides, what if he really is some hideous monster?"
"You couldn’t bring yourself to do it, and neither could I..."
"I’m not someone who only cares about looks, but I couldn’t accept a truly ugly man either."
With that, the three friends burst out laughing.
But the tycoon who was the butt of their jokes couldn’t bring himself to laugh in the slightest.
’A hideous monster?’
’Dwarfism?’
’A whole bunch of illegitimate children?’
’A mistress in every country...’
’He had no idea where they’d heard such outlandish rumors.’
’To think the gossip had painted him in such a light.’
’Their imaginations were really something else.’
Silas couldn’t hold back any longer and started laughing along with the three women.
He had barely managed to hold it in before, forcing the smile from his lips.
But this time, hearing them describe Adrian Sutton in such a way—and then seeing the utterly unamused expression on his face—Silas finally lost it. With a loud snort, he burst out laughing even louder than Claire and her friends.
It was the first time the three women had ever seen Silas so openly emotional. They exchanged bewildered looks.
"Was... that really so funny?" Roxanne Peyton asked.
’Why is he laughing so hysterically?’
’I mean, it was a little funny, but not enough to laugh like *that*, right?’
"You’re going to laugh yourself sick..."
Stella Thorne didn’t get it either.
’They hadn’t said anything *that* crazy, so why was Silas laughing as if he couldn’t breathe?’
Claire Mercer couldn’t help but point out,
"Silas, you’re laughing so hard you’re crying."
’She didn’t think their conversation had been that funny.’
’She couldn’t understand what was making Silas roar with laughter.’
Adrian Sutton didn’t dare lash out at Claire and her friends, so he could only take out his pent-up frustration on Silas.
He shot Silas a glare and snapped in a cold, hard tone,
"Do you mind toning it down? You’re being really loud."
After being glared at and snapped at by Adrian, Silas finally managed to rein in his laughter.
He wiped the tears of laughter from the corners of his eyes.
After another glance at Adrian’s deadpan face, he suppressed his grin and said to the three women,
"S-Sorry... everyone. I just... ha... thought of something really funny, so... I couldn’t help myself..."
Adrian Sutton eyed him coldly and asked with a smile that didn’t reach his eyes,
"And what, pray tell, was so funny? Say it out loud. I’d like to have a laugh, too."
