After Divorce I Married a Tycoon-Chapter 139: Trouble Arises Again
The wedding was about to begin, and the emcee had already taken their place center stage.
But the group of seniors with nowhere to sit found the person who brought them to the hotel and started shouting at her, demanding an explanation.
Every one of them was agitated and impassioned, instantly drawing the attention of the other guests.
"What is the meaning of this? You invited us here for a feast, but there are no seats for us. Are you making fools of us?"
"Exactly! At our age, we went to all the trouble of coming here for a meal, only to find there’s nowhere to sit. Is this any way to treat senior citizens?"
"If you didn’t have any seats, why did you invite us? Do you think these old bones can handle being jerked around like this?"
"I don’t care. You invited us; it’s not like we showed up on our own. Since we’re here and there are no seats and no food, you owe us an explanation."
"Mr. Lawton is right! You have to give us an explanation and make this right. If you don’t, I’ll tell everyone how you trick and humiliate the elderly. Let’s see who loses face then—you or us."
"..."
A young woman stood surrounded, helplessly weathering the verbal assault from the seniors.
She tried to calm them down so she could find Assistant Jennings and report the situation, but a few of the older women were not such easy pushovers.
You could tell these women were seasoned experts in arguing. Their voices were incredibly loud, and once they started yelling, they gave no one a chance to get a word in edgewise.
Seeing the commotion, Felix Sinclair and Rose Gable both frowned, their expressions turning grim.
They had intended to invite young elites, but instead, they got a crowd of uncouth seniors.
That, they could have overlooked.
After all, the seats were full and the venue was buzzing with activity, which was better than it being empty.
But why were there so many extra people?
Felix Sinclair, his face ashen, turned to his assistant.
"What the hell is going on? Is this your handiwork?"
The assistant replied, "I had them stop pulling people in a little while ago. These must be the ones they recruited earlier who had to travel from farther away, so..."
Felix Sinclair squeezed his eyes shut, using every ounce of his willpower to suppress the rage boiling in his chest and regain his composure.
After a long moment, he spoke. "Well? Aren’t you going to tell the hotel to add more tables? Or are you planning to just kick them out?"
The assistant immediately scurried off in a panic to find the hotel manager.
Rose Gable looked at the crowd of people packed at the entrance to the banquet hall, and her face fell once more.
"It’s all or nothing with these people... I’d say there are at least three or four hundred of them without seats. Don’t we need to add forty tables?"
"Forty tables... At over sixty thousand per table for our banquet, doesn’t that mean we’ll have to shell out an extra two million-plus?" 𝐟𝕣𝗲𝕖𝕨𝗲𝐛𝗻𝗼𝐯𝗲𝚕.𝗰𝚘𝐦
Rose Gable felt a physical pang of regret at the thought of shelling out over two million for nothing, just to feed these classless old fools.
The Sinclair family had money, and the Gable family certainly wasn’t poor either.
’But why should they waste their money on these uncouth peasants?’
’What right do they have?’
’Are they even worthy?’
If it weren’t for the special circumstances today, no one would get a single cent out of the Sinclair family.
While over two million was a drop in the bucket for the Sinclair family...
...seeing those women yelling and screaming like common shrews, Rose Gable wanted nothing more than to march over and slap them.
She couldn’t stop herself from muttering a curse.
"A bunch of classless, disrespectful old fools."
As luck would have it, an older woman standing just behind her overheard every word.
This woman had been shouting for quite a while and was now tired, thirsty, and desperately needed the restroom.
She had been on her way to find the restroom when she heard someone call them "disrespectful old fools."
’Oh, she was not about to let that slide.’
She gave Rose Gable a hard shove from behind.
Rose Gable was startled by the push. It was so forceful that she nearly stumbled and fell.
Already in a foul mood, being nearly knocked over sent her into a fury. She whirled around and glared at the woman.
"Are you crazy? Why did you push me?"
The woman, not to be outdone, glared right back. "Who were you just calling a classless, disrespectful old fool?"
"So what if I was? Look at you, acting like a complete shrew. Do you look like you have any class at all? You’re nothing but a peasant."
"The Sinclair family is giving you a chance to eat for free; you should be grateful. And you dare to push me? Do you have any idea who I am?"
"Beggars can’t be choosers. You’re eating my family’s banquet, which costs tens of thousands per table, for free. You think I don’t have the right to criticize you? If I decided to hit you, you’d just have to take it!"
Hearing Rose Gable’s tirade, the woman became absolutely livid.
But she had already done enough shouting for one day and couldn’t be bothered to waste any more energy in a screaming match. After all, at her age, who has that kind of stamina?
After a moment’s thought, she decided to unleash her ultimate weapon: the classic ’cry, fuss, and throw a fit’ routine.
The woman promptly threw herself on the ground and began to wail and thrash about, crying and accusing Rose Gable of calling them "classless, disrespectful old fools" and saying that since they were eating her family’s free food, they should just take it even if they were beaten...
The moment those words were out, how could the other women—all veterans with decades of experience in public disputes—possibly stand for it?
They swarmed Rose Gable, launching a full-scale assault. Some cried, some shrieked, some pointed fingers, and all of them demanded justice...
The wedding reception descended into even greater chaos.
But they were all elderly, and the Sinclair family didn’t dare lay a hand on them.
’What if one of them dropped dead right here? The consequences would be unthinkable.’
Felix Sinclair shot several venomous glares at Rose Gable, wishing his eyes were daggers that could pierce right through her.
’Useless woman,’ he cursed internally. ’She ruins everything she touches.’
He rushed forward to placate the crowd of women, hoping to prevent any further delay to the wedding.
Besides, the whole affair was utterly humiliating. What Rose Gable had said was truly awful, and if word got out, it would only further tarnish the Sinclair family’s reputation.
But the women were too consumed by their righteous anger to listen to a word he said.
Finally, Felix Sinclair slapped Rose Gable across the face.
At this, the women fell silent, staring at him with stunned expressions.
Felix Sinclair stared daggers at Rose Gable and barked.
"Apologize to these ladies. Now."
Rose Gable clutched her cheek, staring at Felix Sinclair with a look of pure, resentful disbelief.
"Felix Sinclair," she asked, her voice trembling with incredulity, "how dare you hit me? At an event like this?"
In front of all these women, in front of more than thirty tables of guests...
’He actually dared to hit her?’
"You know better than anyone that we can’t afford a single misstep today. But what did you just do? What kind of trouble did you just stir up?"
"It’s like you’re actively trying to ruin our son’s wedding."
Rose Gable stammered, "I..."
Felix Sinclair delivered his ultimatum. "Either you apologize, or if you actually succeed in ruining our son’s wedding, you can pack your bags and go crying back to the Gable family."
Left with no other choice, Rose Gable apologized to the woman.
’To think that she, the wife of Rhonia’s wealthiest man, was not only slapped by her own husband in public but was also forced to apologize to a pack of common old hags...’
’The humiliation was unbearable.’
’If word of this got out, how could she ever show her face in Rhonia’s high society again?’
The anger was so overwhelming that Rose Gable nearly passed out.
