After Divorce I Married a Tycoon-Chapter 107: Silas Rowan Doesn’t Like Girls?
Adrian Sutton sounded a bit exasperated. "Grandpa, I only just got my marriage license today. Are you already hoping for a great-grandchild?"
"What else would I be hoping for?" Mrs. Sutton quickly chimed in, backing up her husband.
"Your grandpa and I are old now. Other people’s great-grandchildren are already in elementary school, so where are mine?"
"You and Grandpa are just a little over seventy. You’re still young, what’s the rush...?"
"Young? What do you mean, young? Your grandpa and I are just a bag of old bones."
"Let me tell you, don’t try to brush me off. You need to get a move on, understand?"
Adrian Sutton had never expected his grandparents to be this desperate for a great-grandchild.
First, they pestered him to get married. Now, they were pestering him to have kids.
The craziest part was that they’d started in on him just one day after the wedding.
He was speechless. He decided to use Silas Rowan as a human shield and throw him under the bus in the process.
’After all, it was Silas’s own fault for being a grown man who couldn’t keep his mouth shut, running to their grandparents with every little thing.’
’In that case, he couldn’t blame Adrian for what was coming.’
"Why don’t you go bother your other grandson?"
"He doesn’t even have a girlfriend, while I’m already married."
"I keep telling him he should find someone, but no matter how wonderful the woman is, he’s never interested."
"I’m starting to worry that maybe he’s..."
Adrian Sutton trailed off.
His ambiguous words were deliberately chosen to spark their imagination.
Mrs. Sutton didn’t catch his meaning at first. "Maybe he’s what? Finish your sentence."
"It’s nothing. Some things aren’t certain yet, so it’s not my place to say."
"In any case, you should probably give him a call and ask what his thoughts are."
"You’re right, we should give him a call. But you have to find time this month to bring little Claire home to visit, you hear?" Mrs. Sutton delivered her ultimatum.
Adrian had always been a dutiful and well-behaved grandson in front of his elders.
Plus, the thought of Silas being in hot water filled him with glee.
"I hear you, Grandpa and Grandma."
"Just let us know in advance before you come, so we can prepare."
"I know."
"I’m going to call that boy Silas right now and ask him what he’s thinking."
"Getting on in years and still hasn’t found a partner..."
Silas Rowan, the "old" twenty-seven-year-old, sneezed again.
’What was going on?’
’Why have I been sneezing so frequently lately?’
"Dear," Mrs. Sutton said, "Adrian wasn’t very clear just now, and the more I think about it, the more something feels wrong."
"You know how Silas never dates or shows interest in any girls... Do you think... he might not like women?"
"If he doesn’t like women, does that mean he likes men?"
"That must be it! I’ve heard that lots of young people these days aren’t interested in the opposite sex..."
The moment she said it, the old couple started panicking like ants on a hot griddle.
"Quick, call him and ask!"
The two of them were incredibly nervous, terrified that their eldest grandson might be gay.
They immediately hung up on Adrian Sutton and dialed Silas Rowan’s number.
The thought that Silas was about to lose all peace and quiet made Adrian even more delighted.
Meanwhile, just as Adrian Sutton was ending his call with his grandfather,
Roxanne Peyton and Stella Thorne were descending upon Azure Manor.
They couldn’t get a clear story over the phone about how Claire Mercer had ended up in a flash marriage with Adrian Sutton less than two weeks after moving in.
The two of them chose to confront her in person.
The moment they walked in the door, they dragged Claire into her bedroom.
Without beating around the bush, they got straight to the point.
"What’s the situation with you and Adrian Sutton?"
"Didn’t you say you weren’t going to think about relationships for a while?"
"Now you’ve suddenly skipped dating and gone straight to getting married."
"Do you have any idea how shocked Stella and I were?"
Stella Thorne chimed in, "You’re moving so fast a rocket couldn’t catch you."
"What were you thinking? You’ve been here less than two weeks and you already..."
"Don’t tell me you two fell for each other just from being together day in and day out for a couple of weeks."
"No, just listen to me first..."
But Roxanne Peyton and Stella Thorne gave her absolutely no chance to speak.
"No, you listen to me," Roxanne said. "I just want to know—he didn’t propose, did he?"
Claire Mercer shook her head.
’It was a spur-of-the-moment decision. How could he have proposed?’
’Besides, this was practically a marriage of convenience.’
’There was no need for the kind of proposal ritual that real couples have.’
Stella Thorne’s eyes widened. "So there was no engagement ring, either?"
Claire Mercer shook her head again.
"Then how much did he give you for a bride price?"
Claire Mercer just shook her head again. "There wasn’t one. Please, just let me explain..."
"There’s nothing to explain," Roxanne Peyton cut her off, exasperated.
"I’m sure that love-addled brain of yours is acting up again."
"I’ll admit, a man with Adrian Sutton’s looks and charisma is one in a million."
"And he’s been good to you. Since you’ve been living together, it’s understandable that you’d develop feelings for him."
"But you can’t just get married on a whim like this!"
"You should have at least dated him for a while, seen if he has any ambition, and found out if his feelings for you are genuine!"
"Besides, Adrian Sutton is completely broke right now! What does he have besides that electric scooter he uses to get around?"
"No proposal, no ring, no bride price, no house..."
"This is what they call a ’naked marriage,’ you know? You’re going into it with nothing! Have you even considered what your life will be like?"
"Yes, I know you don’t care if your partner has money, but Adrian Sutton is, after all..."
Roxanne Peyton leaned in close to Claire Mercer and whispered.
"He has nothing but his face. What on earth do you see in him?"
"She’s probably just in it for that devastatingly handsome face," Stella Thorne concluded with a sigh.
"I mean, he seems to treat you well enough, and he’s helped you out a few times."
"But you can’t just get swept up in romance! Have you already forgotten how Gavin Sinclair deceived you?"
"Once bitten, twice shy! How have you not learned your lesson?"
"A guy can be a scumbag whether he’s rich or poor. You really think a poor man can’t be a jerk?"
After Roxanne finished, Stella jumped in.
"Yeah, Claire, it’s not that we’re looking down on Adrian Sutton for being poor. We’re just scared you’re walking into another trap without really knowing him."
"He has practically nothing but that face of his. I honestly don’t think he can provide you with a comfortable, worry-free life."
When Stella finished, Roxanne picked up again. "And don’t blame us for being meddlesome. You’re our best friend."
"We just want to see you marry well and have a good life, not watch you struggle and suffer down the road."
"Just think about it. After you get married, you’ll have kids, right? Having kids costs money! And raising them costs even more."
"Formula, diapers... those expenses add up."
"Right now, he just messes around with those short videos all day and has zero income."
"Sure, lots of people get famous from short videos and make a fortune selling things on livestreams."
"But he’s not earning anything now! And he’s not even looking for a real job. I’m terrified your life is going to be constant chaos, worrying about paying for groceries."
"Married life is all about the mundane reality of paying the bills."
"With your looks and everything, you could easily find a rich heir, be a wealthy man’s wife, and live a life without a single financial care."
"But no, you had to lose faith in rich families and go find someone with nothing to his name."
’Otherwise, she really would have tried to set Claire up with her brother, Ian Peyton.’
