After Betrayal - I Married a Handsome Tycoon-Chapter 99: He’s So Poor
An hour later, after leaving the tea house, Moira Sloan thoughtfully hailed a taxi for Anson Lawson and prepaid the fare for her.
Sitting in the back of the car, Anson watched what Moira was doing, and her eyes flashed with emotion.
Seeing this, Moira walked to the rear window, reached out to pat Anson’s head, and said, "When the day after tomorrow is over, you can be yourself."
Anson’s eyes reddened. She said nothing, lowering her gaze.
After a moment, Moira watched Anson’s taxi depart before hailing her own back to the hotel.
On the way back, she leaned against the window with her chin in her hand, just zoning out.
Rachel Yates had two apprentices, and Moira had her reasons for choosing Anson.
’First of all, the girl is genuinely talented and hardworking enough.’
’Second, she’s been severely suppressed under Rachel Yates.’
’No matter how much of a pushover a talented person seems, they’ll always have ambition hidden deep down.’
’The only thing she’s afraid of is what other people will think.’
’It’s just like she said herself: if she betrays her master, how is she supposed to make it in this industry?’
’In a situation like this, as long as someone is willing to stand up for her and shield her from the gossip and slander, she’ll definitely take a gamble for her own future.’
Of course, there was one more crucial point: Moira genuinely admired her.
When the taxi arrived at the hotel, Moira paid the fare and got out.
She had just stepped into the hotel when she spotted a familiar figure in the lobby.
Moira raised an eyebrow, her gaze meeting the figure’s from across the lobby.
After about thirty seconds, she started walking toward the elevators, and the figure silently fell in behind her.
The two of them entered the elevator, one after the other. Moira tilted her chin up to look at Connor Quinn, her tone dripping with sarcasm. "Don’t tell me this is a coincidence."
’I’d have to be an idiot to believe that.’
Connor Quinn’s voice was low. "It’s not. I’m in Atheria on business and don’t have a place to stay."
Moira scoffed.
’What a lame excuse. He must think I’m an idiot.’
The next moment, Connor pulled his phone from his pocket, opened a chat window, and held it out to her.
Moira glanced down. Her expression softened slightly after she read the conversation.
[Boss Quinn, about that tattoo we scheduled last time, are you free tomorrow?]
[Yes.]
[That’s great! Let’s schedule it for tomorrow then.]
[Okay. 11 AM tomorrow. I’ll come to your shop.]
After reading the conversation, Moira looked up. "Are the hotels all booked?"
Connor lied with a straight face. "Weekend rates are higher. The cheapest room is seven hundred."
Moira chuckled. "You’re here on business. The client must be paying you well, right?"
Connor said, "I have to save for Jade Quinn’s surgery."
Moira, "..."
At the mention of Jade Quinn’s surgery, the sharp words Moira had prepared caught in her throat.
The elevator doors opened, and Moira strode out first in her high heels.
When she got to her room, Moira paused before swiping the key card. She turned to Connor and said, "You’re not to touch me tonight. Otherwise, I’m kicking you out."
Connor’s eyes darkened. "Mm."
Then, as if remembering something, she added through gritted teeth, "And no seducing me, either."
Connor said, "Relax. I won’t."
’Relax?’
’Given his track record...’
’There was no way she could relax around him.’
Having received Connor’s repeated assurances, Moira finally turned and swiped the key card.
Once they were inside, Moira kicked off her heels, flopped onto the sofa, and started texting Flora Rhodes. 𝗳𝚛𝚎𝚎𝘄𝕖𝕓𝕟𝕠𝚟𝚎𝕝.𝗰𝕠𝐦
Moira was a firm believer in the principle "loose lips sink ships." Therefore, Flora only knew that Moira was planning to deal with Rachel Yates at the competition in two days; she was completely in the dark about the details.
Curious, Flora pried: C’mon, tell me. I won’t spread it around. Don’t you trust me?
Moira: Can’t say.
Flora: Cheapskate.
Moira shot back: Takes one to know one.
Flora, clearly not expecting such a quick comeback, replied with a series of ellipses: ...
Moira was in the middle of her chat with Flora when a video call invitation suddenly popped up on her screen.
She glanced at the screen and saw it was a video call from Caleb Lockwood. Her slender finger tapped the screen to accept.
The call connected, and the faces of both Caleb Lockwood and Rowan Churchill filled the screen.
Moira rolled her eyes at the two of them. "With faces that big, it’s a wonder you both fit on the screen."
Caleb asked, "Junior, you’re back?"
Moira replied with a lazy, indifferent "Mm."
Rowan added, "The other day, I heard our Master’s wife say she wants to set you up with some promising young men. What’s your type? Your big bro here can screen them for you."
A playful smirk touched Moira’s red lips. But just as she was about to reply, the expressions on the two faces on her screen changed abruptly to utter shock.
Immediately after, Caleb audibly swallowed. "B—"
