After Being Blackened All Over the Internet, I Ruled the Military Variety Shows-Chapter 36: Possibly a Weirdo
Chapter 36: Chapter 36: Possibly a Weirdo
The morning sun shone into the room.
After a good night’s sleep, Jiang Lingxi had gotten used to getting a drink from the fridge when she woke up. This time, she casually tore off a sticky note that Lu Zhengzheng had left on the fridge door last night.
"Xixi, breakfast is ready and placed in the third compartment of the refrigerator’s cooler section. Microwave it for three minutes before eating."
She accurately found the prepared breakfast in the fridge, set it in the microwave with a timer, and just when Jiang Lingxi was about to marvel once more at the convenience of the modern world, she heard the doorbell ring.
As she went to open the door, Jiang Lingxi glanced at the clock hanging in the living room; it was not yet the time the TV crew had arranged to pick her up. Did they come early on short notice?
When she opened the door, she saw a familiar face, "Tong, why are you here so early?"
Tong Yue stood there, taking a look at Jiang Lingxi, who appeared to be at ease and leisurely. She carried the breakfast she had picked up on the way and entered the room in a rush, "What time did you go to sleep last night?"
"I went to bed before nine."
"I can tell, your energy is not ordinary. Unlike me, who stayed up fussing half the night."
"Busy with work?"
"Not that, it was an internet explosion. Hey, where is Zhengzheng? Didn’t she stay over at your place last night?"
"She’s still asleep and hasn’t woken up yet."
"I’ll go get her, and we can chat while having breakfast later."
Tong Yue, saying that, went familiarly to the guest bedroom to call her. Jiang Lingxi raised an eyebrow and turned into the kitchen to take out the breakfast she had just heated up.
Being awoken by Tong’s face above her, Lu Zhengzheng was momentarily bewildered and asked nasally, "Tong, why are you here?"
"It seems you don’t know about last night’s internet explosion, either." Tong Yue grabbed her arm with a slight pull and dragged her out of bed, "This is not like you; usually, you’re surfing the web in the middle of the night, aren’t you?"
"Maybe Xixi went to bed early, so it influenced me."
"Hearing you say that, I also want to sleep with Xiaoxi for a few nights to see if I can get rid of my dark circles. Go freshen up first, then come out and have breakfast."
Five minutes later.
Three of them were seated at the dining table.
Jiang Lingxi took a bite of the breakfast made by Lu Zhengzheng, a bite of the bun bought by Tong Yue, and a sip of sweet soy milk. Although she seemed to be eating slowly, she had quietly eaten two people’s worth without the others noticing.
In stark contrast to her were Tong Yue and Lu Zhengzheng.
After taking a sip of soy milk, Tong Yue began to talk about a major earthquake that suddenly appeared online late last night, speaking with such passion it was like she was giving a speech.
Lu Zhengzheng, who just wanted to have breakfast too, was left utterly stunned as she listened, forgetting to even take a bite of the bun she was holding. Her level of focus was truly astounding.
In comparison, Jiang Lingxi, who was still seriously having breakfast, came across as a bit out of place.
"That Mr. Shen is so impressive. To think last night before sleeping, I saw that article still on top of the headlines and was a bit mad at Mr. Shen. But who knew, once he handled it, he handled it so neatly!"
Tong Yue nodded and sighed, "I never expected it would lead directly to Xu Wenyue. The show she shot with Jiang Xiyu hasn’t even aired, and now it seems it might be canceled."
"Serves her right for slandering others. When the truth comes out, she’s only reaping what she sowed."
"Isn’t that the truth," Tong Yue said as she glanced up at Jiang Lingxi, who was earnestly munching on a bun across from her, "This way, it seems Mr. Shen and Jiang Xiyu have no connection whatsoever. Xu Wenyue forcing them together like this is just despicable!"
The intention behind her words was to reassure Jiang Lingxi, as Mr. Shen had now proven his innocence; they wouldn’t dwell on the matter anymore.
Jiang Lingxi finished her last bite of the bun, wiped her hands, and nodded, "He truly is quite impressive."
Not being in the Imperial City yet able to remotely investigate and expose the person behind the scenes in the Imperial City – that indeed qualifies as impressive.
At least for now, she couldn’t achieve such things.
Tong Yue felt relieved, "Then let’s drop this topic. Hurry up and eat before everything gets cold."
Jiang Lingxi picked up the last half-cup of soy milk and took a sip, lowering her gaze deep in thought about how he managed all this.
First, he needed capable people under him. By now, she’d realized the vastness of the internet, which had surpassed her imagination.
But to accurately pinpoint the rumor mongers hidden in such an immense and chaotic ocean of online information required abilities of no small measure.
Furthermore, from Tong Yue’s earlier words, it seemed Xu Wenyue’s position in the industry wasn’t low—at least much higher than hers at present.
If even someone like that had to release a public apology statement overnight, without even daring to offer an explanation, it indicated that Xu Wenyue was afraid of Shen Yunqing too.
So, the key question emerges.
Wealthy and powerful, with competent people under him, such a person in this modern world was indeed a privileged existence. Why had he been interested in her original self?
Was it because of her looks?
Her face was indeed attractive, but it wasn’t like he often came to see this face of the original. He hadn’t even shown up in person since getting married.
Ultimately, Jiang Lingxi could only come to a somewhat implausible conclusion: perhaps he was just a weirdo!
"Ding dong!"
The doorbell rang again, and Lu Zhengzheng was about to put down her bun to get the door, but Jiang Lingxi was a step ahead, setting down her cup and getting up, "You two go on eating, I’ll get the door."
Outside the door, the two "Survival" show crew members sent to pick up Jiang Lingxi looked as though life had lost all meaning.
As they waited for the door to open, they whispered complaints.
"How unlucky are we to draw Jiang Lingxi among the five guests? How long do you reckon we’ll have to wait now?"
"It’s just past seven, probably half an hour, hoping Miss Jiang is in a better mood today, so our ride back might be less of a drag."
"But I doubt it; I heard our show is something Jiang Lingxi’s company boss forced her to participate in. If she’s unwilling, how can she be happy?"
"I’m so envious of the ones picking up Jiang Xiyu. Jiang Xiyu is beautiful, kind, and gentle. They might even get treated to breakfast at Jiang Xiyu’s place."
"I am too..."
Their conversation was cut short as the door before them opened.
They instinctively closed their mouths, stood straight, and looked inside.
Facing the unexpectedly striking and attractive face, even without makeup, their minds blanked for a moment.
"Are you from the ’Survival’ show crew? Please come in."
Three minutes later.
The two sat on the living room sofa wearing disposable slippers, each clasping a cup of warm milk, still somewhat out of touch with reality.
Had they really been invited in?
And drinking warm milk?
There’s no denying that the Imperial City was chilly in the morning, so a warm cup of milk was quite comforting.
Even so, they could barely believe they were at Jiang Lingxi’s house.
Facing Jiang Lingxi, who was early rising and good-humored enough to offer them warm milk, felt surreal indeed!
Jiang Lingxi went back to her room, changed clothes, slung on the backpack that Lu Zhengzheng had packed for her last night, and finally picked up her phone, "I’m ready to head out."
"Already? That fast!"
The sofa was so comfy; they wanted to be shameless and sit a bit longer!
Meanwhile.
The two other "Survival" show crew members also arrived at Jiang Xiyu’s private residence.
They took a brief look at the neighborhood and the small but beautiful villa with great anticipation before ringing the doorbell.
"We’re lucky, really. Those two assigned to pick up Jiang Lingxi looked tearful when they left."
"This is my first time seeing Jiang, the Goddess, so early; do you think she will come out in pajamas, bare-faced to greet us?"
"In such a big villa, there must be a housekeeper, right?"
"That’s true."
After waiting a long time and still not seeing anyone coming to the door, the two exchanged looks.
"Ring it again, maybe they didn’t hear it the first time."
Inside the master bedroom, Jiang Xiyu, who only managed to fall asleep at dawn, heard the doorbell echoing in her ears. Annoyed, she pulled the quilt over her head and turned over, trying to sleep again, but she was too disturbed to do so. Finally, she couldn’t help but shout, "Who the hell is ringing the doorbell? So annoying!"
Jiang Yuting, in the adjacent bedroom, didn’t sleep early either, but the doorbell pushed her to get up. After washing her face with cold water, she remembered what day it was and hurried to the master bedroom to wake someone up.
When she forcefully pulled the quilt off Jiang Xiyu, she was shocked to see a face with big dark circles, completely bloodshot eyes, and marked by haggardness and irritation, "What did you do last night? How did you end up like this?"
"Quick, hurry up and put on some makeup. Did you forget today is the day you join the ’Survival’ show crew? You can’t meet people looking like this!"
Outside the villa entrance.
The two had switched from standing to squatting, staring at the address they’d received on their phones.
"Did we get the wrong address? There’s no sign of anyone living in this villa."
They got tired of standing, now their legs were going numb from squatting. When would the door open!
