Chapter 53: Chapter 53: Their Youthful Days!

After Han Wenshan left, Lu Jinshu clasped his hands behind his back and paced around Shen Fanyun, circling him over and over again.

Finally, the old man placed a hand on Shen Fanyun’s shoulder, his voice thick with emotion. "My boy, you really have grown more handsome with age."

"You two talk. I’ll go for a walk," Li Ruoshui said, ever considerate as she tried to give Lu Jinshu and Shen Fanyun some space.

"There’s nothing to be shy about, we’re just two men talking," Lu Jinshu said. "No need to leave, no need at all."

"Come, Fanyun, this old man has a special collection of fine tea. Let’s brew some, just the two of us."

Li Ruoshui hurried to boil the water.

After some pleasantries, Lu Jinshu was once again sighing and reminiscing. This old gentleman genuinely liked and admired Shen Fanyun. Seeing him again after ten years made him truly happy.

During their conversation, Lu Jinshu added, "My granddaughter was just mentioning you earlier. She’ll be overjoyed if she finds out you’re back."

The image of a young girl’s face and smile immediately came to Shen Fanyun’s mind: Lu Feiyan.

Back then, as the school’s famously handsome top student, Shen Fanyun had often set aside his personal time to tutor Lu Feiyan. Logically, as the old headmaster’s granddaughter, she should have inherited his intelligence. However, despite coming from a scholarly family, the girl’s intellect was, frankly, pitiable. Not only was her handwriting a mess, but her attitude toward her studies was also a serious problem. It was hard to imagine that a girl who performed so poorly was the headmaster’s granddaughter.

Those tutoring sessions had been torturous for Shen Fanyun, an unbearable ordeal. But he owed the headmaster a favor and had no choice but to agree, however reluctantly. Besides, their homes were separated by only a single wall. He had to do his homework somewhere, so he had no real reason to refuse.

He remembered one time when, unable to contain his frustration any longer, Shen Fanyun had adopted the stern attitude of an old-fashioned scholar. He picked up a folding fan and was about to rap Lu Feiyan on the head with it.

But Lu Feiyan was feisty.

She fought back, her fair, lotus-root-like arms flailing as she shouted, "I will not share the sky with evil!"

The two inexperienced youths were evenly matched, but the struggle ended when Lu Feiyan executed a back throw. She pushed Shen Fanyun onto the bed, but lost her own balance and fell with him.

The sunlight that day was intense, as if the entire world were immersed in a golden ocean.

Lu Feiyan’s developing body pressed hard against Shen Fanyun’s chest. The next second, time froze. They looked into each other’s eyes, utterly speechless.

Her eyes were large and full of spirit.

She was so close he could feel her soft, rapid breaths.

Even after so many years, Shen Fanyun still vividly remembered how she had rubbed her own lips with her finger and whispered, "Is kissing sweet?"

Shen Fanyun shook his head, indicating he didn’t know.

"Should we try?"

Lu Feiyan fluttered her large eyes, first nuzzling his lips with her nose. Then, she moved her small head closer and planted a deep kiss on his lips.

"Not sweet!" Lu Feiyan smacked her lips, looking as if she had been tricked.

Shen Fanyun laughed heartily, but before he could say a word, Lu Feiyan muttered, "I must be doing it wrong." Then, she grabbed his head and started kissing him messily.

A lot actually happened that day.

At one point, Lu Feiyan suddenly said she was hot and was going to take a shower. Later, she opened the bathroom door, her little head peeking out, hair dripping wet. She asked Shen Fanyun if he wanted to join her.

Shen Fanyun was stunned and stood dazed for a long moment. Lu Feiyan muttered "idiot" under her breath, "a super-duper big idiot..."

It turned out that the fondness of youth was always mixed with ignorance and impulse. It wasn’t love, yet it was more turbulent and overwhelming than love itself.

In the bathroom, Lu Feiyan took Shen Fanyun’s hands and guided them to touch every inch of her skin, from the delicate buds of her chest to her fair, blush-tinged flat stomach, and then to the grove that was beginning to take shape...

Unfortunately, he had left in such a hurry afterward, without even having time to bid Lu Feiyan a proper goodbye and tell her to take care.

In the blink of an eye, more than ten years had passed. He had no idea what the troublemaking girl who used to have short hair and constantly chew gum looked like now.

Looking back, he realized that in those years, he had actually met many wonderful girls worth spending a lifetime with, like Li Ruoshui and Lu Feiyan.

But fate played its tricks, and he had met Li Qiuchan instead.

In those days, probably all their classmates, including Li Qiuchan herself, believed that he, Shen Fanyun, had truly loved her! But the truth was, Li Qiuchan had only wanted to focus on her studies and not be persistently harassed by other boys, so she had asked Shen Fanyun for a favor. He hadn’t explicitly agreed, yet the very next day, a rumor spread throughout the entire school that he and Li Qiuchan were a couple. The top male and female students—a match made in heaven, wasn’t it?

"Fanyun? Fanyun?" Lu Jinshu had been talking at length, only to realize Shen Fanyun was holding his head in his hands, completely lost in thought. The old headmaster had no choice but to wave a hand in front of his face.

Shen Fanyun patted his forehead and apologized, "Sorry, I was just thinking about something and got distracted."

"Thinking about what?" Li Ruoshui asked, handing him a cup of tea.

Shen Fanyun smiled. "It’s nothing."

"Are you free tonight? How about coming over for dinner?" Lu Jinshu asked. "And you too, Ruoshui. You used to eat with Feiyan all the time—my home was practically your second one! Don’t be shy, you should come along too."

Lu Jinshu generously invited them both.

"There’s no rush. We’ll have plenty of time in the future," Shen Fanyun said. "Let’s pass on today."

"Alright then. Whenever you’re free, just let this old man know, and I’ll prepare in advance," Lu Jinshu nodded. From the sound of it, Lu Feiyan wasn’t in Hangcheng City at the moment.

"How is Feiyan?" Shen Fanyun paused, but asked anyway.

Lu Jinshu laughed. "That girl has never been serious about a proper job. Now she’s run off to be some kind of traveling artist, flying all over the place every other day. Right now, she’s probably on a flight to some city or other."

"How about I give you her number? You young people can get in touch yourselves."

Shen Fanyun smiled. It seemed Lu Feiyan was still as carefree and unconstrained by the world as she was when she was younger, which was nice.

"I’ll see her when she gets back."

When it came to that lovely girl, Shen Fanyun still felt a pang of guilt. He hadn’t yet figured out what state of mind he should be in when he saw Lu Feiyan again.

"That’s all for today. We’ll be going now."

Shen Fanyun bid farewell to Lu Jinshu.

On the way back, Shen Fanyun was unusually silent.

Li Ruoshui asked doubtfully, "Is something on your mind? Why are you acting so strange all of a sudden?"

"Really?" Shen Fanyun massaged his temples, reverting to his usual playful demeanor.

Li Ruoshui changed the subject, her expression worried. "Are you really planning to confront Han Long? Fanyun, I hope you think this through!"
