After Being Betrayed I Married the Glamorous CEO-Chapter 237: In this world, is there no one who can control you?
Chen Hua had initially thought that bringing up the prestigious local Li family would make Shen Fanyun think twice and not dare to mess with her again. To her shock, this guy didn’t take the Li family seriously at all... what the...?
"Do you have any idea what you’re saying? Disrespecting the Li family in public... Do you have a death wish?" Chen Hua stared blankly at Shen Fanyun for a long moment.
Then, she added, "I have Qiuchan’s contact information, you know." Her implication was clear: if Shen Fanyun continued to be so arrogant and reckless, she wouldn’t hesitate to get Li Qiuchan involved personally. By then, Shen Fanyun probably wouldn’t dare to make a peep.
"And then?" Shen Fanyun raised an eyebrow.
Chen Hua was left completely speechless.
"Either kowtow and apologize, or you’re not leaving here today." With a flick, Shen Fanyun lit a cigarette, appearing utterly nonchalant.
Apologize? Impossible. In her entire life, Chen Hua had never understood the concept of apologizing. Even though she had indeed been rash and run her mouth this time, she would never admit she was wrong!
"Heh," Chen Hua snorted disdainfully.
Holding the cigarette, Shen Fanyun swung his hand and slapped her across the face. The woman was asking for it. Why was she still putting on airs at a time like this?
"You!"
Clutching her face, Chen Hua glared at Shen Fanyun, her eyes filled with venom.
Finally, the haughty woman made a call to Li Qiuchan, her proud demeanor instantly replaced with a fawning sycophancy.
"Miss Qiuchan, it’s me, Chen Hua! Your distant relative. We met at the family dinner a few months ago."
"Yes, yes, that’s right. I was the one who asked for your contact information, thinking that family should stay in touch."
"Um, I’ve run into a little trouble this time, Miss Qiuchan..."
Judging by her tone, it was clear that Chen Hua wasn’t close with Li Qiuchan. At best, they were distant relatives who were barely acquainted. Now that she was suddenly calling for help, Li Qiuchan felt it would be awkward to refuse, so she exchanged a few words with her.
Chen Hua rambled on, reminiscing about the past with the simple goal of making it seem like they were very close. In the end, a weary Li Qiuchan told Chen Hua to hand the phone to Shen Fanyun so she could speak with him directly. After all, her name carried significant weight in Hangcheng City. Anyone who wanted to make a life there knew better than to cross her, unless they were some reckless fool with a death wish.
"Hmph." Chen Hua turned and strutted toward Shen Fanyun, ordering him about arrogantly. "Miss Qiuchan has something to say to you. Watch your tone. With your kind of character, you’d never get to meet someone as distinguished as Qiuchan in your entire life. I’m giving you this opportunity!"
Shen Fanyun was amused by the spectacle. This bunch of buffoons had no real ability, but they were all masters of bluffing and borrowing others’ power to intimidate people.
Seeing Shen Fanyun remain motionless, Chen Hua’s brow furrowed as she pressed him again. "I told you to take the phone. Didn’t you hear me? Are you deaf or mute? Or are you just completely terrified?"
"Heh," Chen Hua sneered. "A little late to be scared now, isn’t it? I told you I’m not someone to be trifled with."
"Once I bring out my real backing, all you’ll be able to do is beg for mercy and kowtow."
"As for whether I’ll be merciful, that will depend entirely on your performance. But then again, you slapped me so many times. I will definitely be settling that score with you!"
Chen Hua held out the phone, her voice turning cold. "Take it!"
"Oh?" Shen Fanyun cracked a smile. "Why don’t you let her hear my voice first? Then she can decide if she still wants to chat with me."
"Huh?" Chen Hua was baffled. The chance to speak a single sentence with a person of Li Qiuchan’s status was a blessing most people could only dream of. How could Shen Fanyun not show the proper respect and say something like that? What was with that? Was Li Qiuchan supposed to be afraid of this guy?
"Are you out of your mind?" Chen Hua was growing impatient. Does this man think way too highly of himself?
"Tell her my surname is Shen," Shen Fanyun prompted.
Chen Hua’s brows knitted together. Though reluctant, she relayed the message over the phone.
The next second, Li Qiuchan’s breathing suddenly hitched, as if a wave of fury was about to erupt from within her.
"Who in the world did you provoke?" Li Qiuchan’s voice was ice-cold.
Chen Hua panicked. "I... I..."
"You handle it yourself! I don’t have time for you!"
"And stop throwing my name around out there! If I find out you’re tarnishing my reputation again, I, Li Qiuchan, will personally settle the score with you. Now, get lost!"
SNAP!
Li Qiuchan decisively hung up. Her reaction was a complete reversal from her earlier agreement to help, as if she were a different person entirely.
"Want to try calling her again?" Shen Fanyun teased.
Chen Hua stood frozen. She wasn’t an idiot. Given Li Qiuchan’s sudden rage and clear displeasure with her, calling again at this critical juncture would be no different from courting death.
Everyone present, including Yu Zheng, wore grave expressions. Even the future daughter-in-law of the Han Family couldn’t handle Shen Fanyun. In fact, she seemed to be desperately trying to distance herself from him.
"You... you... I... I..." Chen Hua trembled as she clutched her phone, her face deathly pale. She realized, to her horror, that she had provoked a true titan.
"See? That lofty, distinguished patron you look up to isn’t quite as powerful as you imagined."
HISS!
A chill shot up her spine to the crown of her head.
Chen Hua stumbled back two steps before she could no longer bear it. With a THUD, she collapsed to her knees before Shen Fanyun.
Yu Zheng quickly followed suit. The couple had finally admitted defeat.
"I thought you were going to be stubborn to the end and refuse to apologize." Shen Fanyun’s words made Chen Hua want to crawl into a hole and die.
"So, do you have a clear idea of what kind of man your husband really is?"
Chen Hua nodded numbly. "I do... I do."
"You knew, yet you still came here to cause trouble and sling mud?" Shen Fanyun’s foot nudged Chen Hua’s cheek. "What, you think there’s no one left in this world who can deal with you?"
Chen Hua was speechless as an icy dread washed over her.
"Someone else will handle the two of you," Shen Fanyun said. He certainly wouldn’t let scum like them go, but he couldn’t be bothered to deal with them personally. He would just let Zhan Feng take over.
* * *
On the other side of the city, after hanging up the phone, Li Qiuchan’s emotions were still in turmoil.
Shen Fanyun! That name was becoming a shadow looming over her life, especially after he had so brazenly injured Han Feng. If she didn’t get rid of this man, Li Qiuchan felt she would never have a peaceful night’s sleep for the rest of her life. Don’t blame me for disregarding our past. You forced my hand. You’re too much of an eyesore, and I hate how you keep reappearing in my world, time and time again!
