Adventures of the last Wild Dragon-Chapter 228: The Third Boss
As the girls rested atop a hill they carefully observed the arena before them. It somewhat resembled what the girls experienced in the colosseum back in the city, yet it was not quite as large as that, and in much worse condition.
However it was not the architecture that captured the girls attention, no it was the figure that stood within the arena.
It was a towering form, standing nearly 2 and a half meters in height. It’s two legs resembled tree trunks, corded with muscles power, it had pitch black skin speckled with orange and blue constellations of a star that seemed oddly familiar to Violet. 4 arms sprouted from its shoulders, each ending in wicked looking claws.
"Hmm well I guess that is the last boss of this floor then?" Violet mused aloud.
"Looks like it yeah, seems pretty strong. Wonder if it will summon help like the tiger did."
"I hope not, I want a normal fight!" Violet stated causing Luna to chuckle.
"Well let’s not keep it waiting then." Said Luna as she proceeded to head down the hill towards the ruined area.
The girls quickly followed after her, Olivia hurrying forwards to be in front whilst everyone else fell into their usual formation behind her.
It did not take too long for them to arrive outside of the structure, its open walls allowing them to easily see into the arena. Similarly it seemed that the creature inside had also taken notice of them.
Yet the creature did not make any moves, staying still with only a slight tilt of its head to keep the girls in its line of sight.
Only when they entered into the arena propper did it make any kind of move. "Welcome challengers. You stand in these hallowed halls, are you ready to test your worthiness?"
Its voice was scratchy and deep, like a baso reverberating underwater, it obviously originated from the creature as its mouth moved with the sound, yet the voice somehow seemed to originate from multiple sources all around them at once.
The girls froze then, momentarily unsure as to what to do having not expected the final boss to actually speak. Still Violet quickly regained her composure and replied to the unnerving creature.
"What is this challenge that you speak of?"
"It is simple, a challenge of survival. You must kill this incarnation before it kills you. There are no other rules, use any means at your disposal, fight, struggle, survive. Now are you ready?" The four armed creature replied.
Violet had many questions from that answer, primary amongst them being what is an incarnation. Yet even still she understood the premise, they must defeat this creature if they want to progress, so it looks like her desire for a straight fight would be granted.
She felt a wide smile split her lips as she stared back at the creature, noting the constilation of glittering stars that composed the beings eyes. "We are ready, yes."
"Good then may the gods smile upon you."
And like that the battle began.
Violet summoned forth her barrage of bolts, sending them flying forward in an instant. Yet when they were but a few feet away from the being a shimmering portal appeared before it, the bolts simply flew right into it and disappeared. Yet a moment later a similar portal appeared to the side of the girls and a heartbeat later Violet’s entire barrage came shooting out of it heading straight towards the group.
Both Violet and Luna responded instantly, a shield of void and ice forming in the path of the barrage. The shields cracked, but held.
As that was happening Rhyana transformed into a bolt of lightning, shooting forward with blinding speed she aimed straight for the creature. Yet when she swerved around to avoid the shimmering portal the creature was no longer there.
Olivia had hardly had time to raise her shield before the explosion of magic surged out, Rhyana had just shot forwards when suddenly the large creature appeared right in front of her. It’s two arms on its right side raised as it swiped down towards her.
Thorn covered vines sprouted from her shield as she raised it to block the incoming blow, when the claws impacted however, the vines were instantly shredded and Olivia was sent staggering backward from the force of the attack.
The creature made to rush forwards once again but was forced to dodge out of the way of a quick stab from an ice spear that Luna held. The leopard then rushed around him as her form split into 4, each of them stabbing forward towards the creature.
A film of water then covered Olivia’s shield and feet, granting her increased movement and defense courtesy of Susan allowing Olivia to rush back in and try to smash into the creatures side with her shield.
Yet once more the creature vanished as she was in mid swing. A shout of warning was all that Olivia heard as she swirled around just in time to see the creature raise its arms to strike down at Susan.
However as the claws were defending Violet appeared right in front of it, a void spear held in her hand as she swung upwards to intercept the blow. The creature was unable to avoid the attack, the void spear managing to slice off a couple of the creatures fingers in an instant. Yet instead of blood flowing from the mutilated hand, a ethereal orange substance instead flowed out.
Still Violet did not have time to ponder that peculiarity for long, she could already feel the void spear beginning to shred through the film of protective void mana covering her hands, she quickly took a step back and threw the spear point blank at the creature. But before it could impact a small portal appeared that swallowed up the projectile, its exit portal appearing besides one of Luna’s illusions which quickly shattered from the impact.
Rhyana then arrived once more as a bolt of lightning, managing to impact the creature properly this time and causing it to stiffen momentarily.
That opening allowed a jet of water and a ice spear to impact the creature and causing more of the beings ’blood’ to flow from the fresh wounds.
The creature once more vanished from its place, appearing behind Olivia who had only just began to move towards the action. She tried to turn and block the incoming attack but was a moment too late, the pitch black claws of the being sliced through her armour and tore a deep wound in her shoulder in a spray of blood. Thankfully it was her sword arm that was impacted so she was still able to bring her shield around to impact with the beings side with a dull thud.
Luna then took a step, appearing besides the creature, her spear splitting a shrinking into two swords that she sliced down at the flanks of the crew. One of its arms managed to block one strike yet her second managed to score a thin cut along its abdomen.
A void spear then shot forwards at the creature from the side, another portal appeared in its path yet just as the pear was passing through the spear exploded, the portal cracked then broke apart just in time for a second void spear to fly through and pierce one of the creatures arms.
With that distraction Olivia managed to creatre some distance as Susan got to work healing the wound with her magic. Rhyana soon appearing alongside Luna’s frozen illusions to land a lightning infused fist into the gut of the being.
It was sent staggering backwards from that impact, yet when Luna went bland another blow it vanished once again. Violet spun around, expecting it to appear behind her yet saw nothing. She frantically looked around searching for the creature, quickly finding it on the far side of the arena from them.
Mana was building up in between its hands, space rippling in violent and unnatural ways.
Then just as the girls all oriented on the creature a crescent arc of space shot forward towards them.
Violet’s instincts screamed in warning of the danger posed by that spell, yet she refused to blink away and leave her friends to handle the blow by themselves.
She instantly summed a barrage of void bolts that she fired towards the incoming spell whilst also summoning the strongest shield that she possibly could. Everyone else seemed to understand the threat posed by that spell, with Luna and Susan also summoning a shield of their own respective elements.
Olivia then stepped in from of everyone else with her own shield raised, verdant green light coating her shield to act as a final layer of defence.
Muted pops signaled the destruction of Violet’s bolts, shortly followed by the crack of the void shield breaking, then the shattering of Luna’s ice shield and the hiss of Susan’s water wall being cut apart.
The crescent space blade only seemed momentarily slowed down by that before it impacted with Olivia’s shield. A cacophonous boom rang out when the speed made contact accompanied by a burst of emerald and orange light.
When Violet opened her eyes after the flash all she saw the the limp form of Olivia flying through the air as she crashed down some distance away from the girls.
