Addiction to Temptation: His Mischievous Sweetheart Captivates Him-Chapter 187: If I Had a Scandal With You, I’d Be Pretty Willing
Natalie Vaughn coughed when she heard Julian Sutton speak so bluntly.
Julian Sutton was even more outrageous than she was, dragging Director Gable into their little game of catching rabbits.
"Cough for what? You’re in perfect health, don’t pretend with me."
Director Gable was taken aback by Julian Sutton’s words. Although he knew this guy wasn’t as mild-mannered as he seemed, how could he lose his composure in front of Natalie Vaughn?
"What’s with you today? Ate too many spicy sticks and fried your brain? Just say what you need to say."
Director Gable also had a fiery temper and couldn’t stand beating around the bush.
It was only after listening to Director Gable’s words that Natalie Vaughn realized why Julian Sutton had dragged him in. Director Gable couldn’t tolerate any underhandedness in the crew. With his help, catching rabbits could be more enjoyable.
Julian Sutton said a few simple words, and after hearing them, Director Gable frowned even more deeply.
"Are you serious?"
Julian Sutton waved his sleeve.
"Whether it’s true or not, won’t we find out if we try?"
Director Gable looked at Natalie Vaughn again, and she smiled slyly.
"Director Gable, I’m putting my life on the line for you to get rid of harm."
Director Gable: .....
Why does this sound a bit off?
...
In the afternoon, as the set was being prepared for a rehearsal, Director Gable, rarely, said some touching words. His comments were all about Natalie Vaughn, praising her for her beautiful fight scenes, her endurance, her dedication, and even expressing his reluctance about her impending departure.
Julian Sutton felt embarrassed at the praise, while Natalie Vaughn accepted it all with neither a blush nor a flutter.
"You’re almost done filming, if she doesn’t make a move soon, she’ll miss her chance."
After all, Zane Thorne’s bodyguards were always around Natalie Vaughn, making it hard to strike from elsewhere.
But still...
"Can a woman really be so vicious for love?"
This was a matter of life and death.
Natalie Vaughn shot a glance at Julian Sutton,
"It’s not a woman, it’s a lunatic. Besides, don’t you usually refrain from assuming the worst of others? Why do I feel like you’re looking forward to how she’ll make a move?"
Julian Sutton: ...
"No way."
Natalie Vaughn didn’t continue talking.
After Director Gable finished speaking, he had everyone seriously prepare, but he called over a few of the managers to make it seem like the crew had relaxed regulations since the accident with the explosives.
Natalie Vaughn and Julian Sutton returned to the lounge to rest, leaving Genevieve Joyce to keep watch outside. When Jasmine Blackwood badmouthed Natalie Vaughn on set, it was Genevieve who had handed Jasmine the payment code, a face Genevieve wouldn’t forget due to her professionalism.
As expected, when the crew let down their guard, Jasmine Blackwood sneaked over to the wire setup. After being in the crew for so long, she’d learned how the equipment worked.
Genevieve Joyce stood behind her, recording everything with her phone, and after Jasmine Blackwood left, Genevieve returned to the lounge and handed the phone to Natalie Vaughn.
Jasmine Blackwood, with her little strength and limited time, could only loosen one screw. Having watched the professionals prepare for this many days, Natalie Vaughn was well aware of the construction, and with that one nut Jasmine Blackwood loosened, it would at most cause a few wobbles, but wouldn’t be deadly.
Natalie Vaughn pressed her temples with her hand.
"Should I get a little hurt, so she can be sent to jail for a few days?"
Julian Sutton’s relaxed demeanor tightened at her words.
"What nonsense are you saying? It’s just someone like her—are you really going to get yourself hurt?"
Natalie Vaughn rolled her eyes at him.
"I’m not that stupid."
She’s an actress after all; pretending to be injured isn’t difficult for her.
Julian Sutton understood Natalie Vaughn’s intention but still disapproved.
"You can’t guarantee what might happen with the wires. High up in the air—what if something really goes wrong?"
Natalie Vaughn nodded.
"Of course, I can."
Julian Sutton: ...
Oh, how did he forget, Natalie Vaughn was quite skilled; it was unnecessary worry on his part.
Nevertheless, Julian Sutton reminded her.
"Don’t hurt yourself for someone who doesn’t matter."
That’s exactly Natalie Vaughn’s belief. She does everything for herself; there’s no way she would hurt herself for someone insignificant.
As it was almost time for filming, Julian Sutton, having changed into his costume, still felt uneasy. He approached Genevieve Joyce.
"You’re just letting your young lady carry on like this?"
According to his family rules, such antics were not allowed.
Genevieve Joyce just smiled.
"The young lady knows her limits."
Julian Sutton furrowed his brows.
"And her brother allows it?"
"President Vaughn trusts the young lady."
Julian Sutton stopped asking. Fine, her own brother isn’t worried, why should he be? But as the real filming began, Julian Sutton couldn’t help but keep an eye on the wire suspending Natalie Vaughn.
The nut loosened by Jasmine Blackwood was indeed a tiny component. Natalie Vaughn made it through a round with no anomalies, and it wasn’t until close to four that she sensed some wobbling.
Natalie Vaughn seized the moment, pretending to crash into a nearby pillar. To outsiders, it looked as though she hit the pillar directly and then fell to the ground.
Even Julian Sutton, knowing Natalie was acting, was taken aback by the sight.
A bunch of people rushed over to check on Natalie Vaughn, and Summer Churchill, unaware of the situation, was so worried her eyes turned red.
"Nina, are you okay? Where’d you fall? What hurts?"
Seeing Summer’s anxious demeanor, Natalie Vaughn gave her a secret signal, but the flustered young woman couldn’t make out her intent and just kept thinking it must have hurt terribly.
"Nina, don’t worry, we’ll go to the hospital right away."
Natalie Vaughn decided not to try to calm Summer down any further; everyone else had already gathered around. She discreetly pinched herself, bringing tears to her eyes from the pain, adding to her pale complexion and giving the impression that she’d indeed sustained a bad injury.
When Director Gable arrived, he genuinely thought for a moment that Natalie Vaughn had been hurt, exchanging a glance with Julian Sutton, who was plainly confused by her performance too.
"Director Gable, I think I might’ve injured my bones."
It was their agreed-upon line.
Only then did Director Gable realize Natalie was acting. As he cooperated with her performance, he couldn’t help but admire her talent.
If he’d known, he’d have discussed adding a romantic subplot with the scriptwriter to enrich her character.
Natalie Vaughn’s sudden accident threw the whole crew into a frenzy. Director Gable immediately called everyone together to inspect the wires for issues.
Julian Sutton accompanied Natalie, carrying her into the car. As soon as the door closed, Natalie quickly slipped out of his arms, even dusting off her clothes a few times.
Julian Sutton: ...
"I cooperated with you out of goodwill, and you show disdain?"
Natalie Vaughn curled a corner of her mouth.
"I’m just thinking about you, aren’t you the one who doesn’t want rumors?"
Julian Sutton: ... He’d have to be a fool to believe her. Her look of disdain wasn’t hidden at all.
"If it were rumors with you, I’d be quite willing."
