Addicted After Marriage: Marrying My Abstinent Boss-Chapter 224: Zane Sterling Is Not Her First Choice
Today’s tea party is being held in the mayor’s wife’s back garden.
When Sophia Lowell and her group arrived, many people were already admiring the residence of the mayor’s wife.
This is the newly appointed mayor’s wife, Mrs. Lynn.
Mrs. Lynn is just over fifty, yet she has the face of a thirty-year-old, a perfect national beauty, a graceful figure, slightly plump yet looking prosperous, naturally beautiful, making Sophia glance a few more times.
She was wearing a well-cut qipao, exquisite and likely handmade for this tea party, which she hosted not just for tea and conversation but to make connections and lay the groundwork for the future.
Most of the guests were famous businesswomen and rich young ladies, each a legend in her own right.
Zoe Walsh was surprisingly an old classmate of hers.
"Zoe, you finally arrived!" Mrs. Lynn ignored those around and gave her a big hug.
"Am I late?" Zoe Walsh gently hugged her back.
Both let go simultaneously, then walked in together, bringing her into the pavilion.
"Just in time. I’m glad you’re here, otherwise I wouldn’t have many people to talk to."
Mrs. Lynn was somewhat regretful. She hadn’t wanted to host this tea party; she’s someone who likes to have fun, but not everyone fits her circle.
"Quick, introduce me! Wait a minute, let me guess, this must be your beautiful daughter-in-law!" Mrs. Lynn held Sophia’s hand, eyeing her up and down, murmuring, "You seem to have picked all the good ones, even such a beautiful daughter-in-law. My Leon is still single at thirty..."
Leon?
Was she talking about the Leon who just returned from studying overseas?
Sophia smiled, "The best is yet to come! Mrs. Lynn, you are quite blessed."
Mrs. Lynn chuckled, "Such a sweet talker!"
Then, she focused on Autumn Lowell, "You mother and daughter look so alike!"
Mrs. Lynn smiled; she had met Autumn Lowell a couple of times before, and they were somewhat acquainted.
"We change day by day, yet you haven’t changed at all from when you were thirty!" Autumn Lowell teased.
Mrs. Lynn burst into laughter.
Zoe Walsh, smiling, pulled Teacher Hale forward and said, "This is Designer Ellison’s mother, Teacher Hale. She was quite the fashion expert back in the day!"
"Designer Ellison? The one working with Lynn?" Mrs. Lynn eyed her.
Teacher Hale didn’t say much, and Mrs. Lynn’s attention was elsewhere, so this brief introduction ended quickly.
Later, Mrs. Lynn went to entertain other guests, telling Zoe Walsh to show them around—this was her turf after all. Zoe was well-acquainted, with a maid accompanying them.
Once people had moved far enough away, Sophia quietly asked Zoe Walsh, "Is Mrs. Lynn’s son that Manager Lynn at Zane’s company?"
Zane...
This was the first time she’d called him that lately, and she almost stumbled over it.
She bit her lip.
Zoe, not noticing this little action, quickly hushed her, "Shh..." She glanced around, "Leon does work at Zane’s company, but don’t say this everywhere since Mayor Lynn just took office. It wouldn’t be good if people use this to create issues."
Sophia nodded and clamped her mouth shut.
They walked through a long corridor and stopped at a lakeside pavilion, surrounded by lotuses and lotus leaves, with many koi in the lake.
"I heard this property was acquired recently; it was supposedly built secretly by a corrupt official. It cost quite a bit, and Mayor Lynn bought it before taking office without fearing gossip..."
Zoe Walsh, Autumn Lowell, and Teacher Hale sat together drinking tea, quietly gossiping about Mrs. Lynn.
Sophia got some fish food from the maid and focused on feeding the fish.
The koi seemed to sense the food and swam towards her.
She absentmindedly scattered the fish food bit by bit into the pond.
Not far away, a familiar pair of eyes watched her, filled with an unclear pain and restraint.
Sophia’s spine tingled, and she slowly straightened, her gaze meeting the woman’s across from her.
She subtly curved her lips, not paying much attention, continuing to scatter fish food onto the koi.
Turning slightly, a strand of hair fell from her ear as the morning sun shone on her, making her appear like a lotus fairy in the pool.
Ding--
Sophia’s phone finally chimed, expectedly delayed; she believed she could keep her composure, but that woman couldn’t hold back at all.
[Come over.]
Just two simple words, yet they revealed the restraint of the woman across from her.
Sophia looked at her phone and then at Tim Sawyer, who appeared calm, seemingly lacking the vigor of the message’s tone.
This woman was still too impatient.
Sophia scattered the rest of the fish food, drawing a swarm of koi.
The water rippled, and the surrounding lotus leaves swayed gently as if a breeze had passed.
The wind picked up.
Sophia smiled, stood up, and said to the three women happily chatting under the pavilion, "I’m heading to the restroom and will check if there’s anything else interesting. I’ll come back to find you later."
"Don’t wander too far!" Autumn Lowell said, concerned, wanting to stand and go with her.
"Let her go for a stroll and clear her head," Zoe Walsh pulled her back into her seat. She’s grown up; no need to worry so much.
"Don’t worry, I’ll be back soon." Sophia lifted her skirt and left the pavilion.
She headed towards the opposite pavilion, turning with Tim Sawyer into another courtyard.
This spot had a small tea room, offering some privacy, where they both sat down synchronously.
"Why didn’t you dare to meet me?" Tim Sawyer sneered.
Sophia calmly poured the already boiled water into their teacups.
"Why wouldn’t I dare meet you? I have a clear conscience. It’s you who urgently summoned me; what do you want to say?"
"You knew the message was from me. Why didn’t you show up?"
"What would I come out for?" Sophia smiled, "To scold you for being shameless? To question if you did something you shouldn’t have?" She snorted, "What’s the point?"
Tim Sawyer didn’t expect Sophia to respond like that, "Aren’t you nervous at all?"
"Why should I be nervous?" Sophia was curious to see Tim Sawyer’s reaction, "You can have men on both sides, but you mustn’t let them affect your emotions. Always remember, men should never be your first choice."
Tim Sawyer was stunned.
"Isn’t Zane your first choice?"
Sophia hesitated for a moment, "He is, but so am I."
Zane Sterling is her first choice, she loves Zane, but she chooses to love herself more, and she is willing to trust Zane as well.
She was upset about it because any woman would be upset in such a situation, and even if it was a misunderstanding, she would still be upset.
Because she loves Zane Sterling, loves him to the core.
Even a misunderstanding could make her feel heartbreaking pain!
Initially, she thought this matter was a foregone conclusion, but when Tim Sawyer texted her, she started to doubt its authenticity.
