Addicted After Marriage: Marrying My Abstinent Boss-Chapter 204: He’s Back
People from Faye Ellison’s side hadn’t arrived yet, but the Sterling family did.
Grandpa Sterling and Eugene Sterling came with two bodyguards.
"Mr. Ellison," Eugene greeted the man beside him with an expressionless face.
Faye Ellison smiled faintly, a smile that didn’t reach his eyes.
The Sterling family really were cut from the same mold, each with faces like frozen masks, showing no expression at all.
They gave off an unapproachable vibe.
Ha, they sure are hard to approach.
But, they all look well-maintained, showing no signs of age.
Grandpa Sterling bypassed Faye Ellison and went straight into the ward, smiling affectionately as he walked toward Sophia Lowell.
Faye Ellison furrowed his brows.
This changed too quickly.
"Grandpa." Hugh Irving.
"Grandpa, why are you here?" Sophia Lowell lay on the hospital bed.
"How could I not come for something this big?" he said, his tone slightly exasperated.
Sophia Lowell smiled lightly, saying nothing.
What big thing was he referring to?
Zane Sterling’s infidelity?
Or her pregnancy?
But no matter which, each was like a curse, cursing their love to a bad end.
No, there wasn’t much love to begin with; their feelings at most grew into familial affection after marriage.
Grandpa Sterling knew she was hurting inside and solemnly said, "I’ll ask him properly when he returns. You’ll definitely get a proper explanation. He’s not back yet, but if things are really as the internet says, Grandpa will stand up for you!"
"Thank you, Grandpa." Sophia Lowell’s nose tingled with emotion.
Sigh, more than sadness, sudden comfort and care are what easily bring tears.
As if repeatedly tearing off scars.
It hurts even more!
"Grandpa, you don’t need to worry about our affairs." Sophia didn’t know how to continue and just stopped.
"You don’t need to feel embarrassed, it’s our responsibility for not educating well," Grandpa Sterling murmured a few times, "That rascal doesn’t seem like someone who would do such a thing; they’re nearly getting married, and now this happens, he might have been set up."
Last year when Sophia Lowell arranged clothes for Zane Sterling, he sent someone to the manor to fetch them; Zane hadn’t contacted his ex-girlfriend for five years, even held resentment.
But when Sophia appeared at the manor gates that day, he must have had an answer in his heart.
He’s already married to Sophia, moreover, he genuinely loves her. How could he have done such a thing?
And that person was Tim Sawyer!
There must be something going on that they don’t know about.
At this moment, Eugene Sterling walked in, and Faye Ellison who was at the door was blocked from entering.
Faye Ellison knew better, their family matters were not something he could interfere with just yet.
"Rest assured, no matter what happens, our family only acknowledges you. As promised, nothing will change. If that blockhead really did something to hurt everyone, I’ll break his legs and kick him out when he returns tomorrow." Eugene Sterling said with a cold face.
"We’ll give you an explanation for this. Rest and recover well."
Eugene Sterling was a man of few words, but today, he was angry.
Zoe Walsh and Autumn Lowell were rushing back from abroad; the house was full of men, and Sophia Lowell hadn’t had in-depth conversations with them. She didn’t want to discuss too much with them, so she mumbled a response.
Eugene Sterling understood Sophia’s unease and said nothing more. He exited the ward and stood guard at the door.
Faye Ellison left at some point.
Before leaving, he sent a message to Sophia Lowell, telling her to call if anything happened.
Grandpa Sterling, Sophia Lowell, and Hugh Irving chatted in the room.
Sophia Lowell rarely spoke; she only wanted quiet now.
Seeing her lack of interest, Grandpa Sterling and Hugh Irving didn’t say much more either.
"You all should go rest; it’s late. I’m fine here, should be able to get discharged tomorrow." Sophia Lowell.
"Then rest well, wait for us here tomorrow, and we’ll handle the discharge. If there’s nothing much, go back to the manor for a while, the room’s been prepared for you." Grandpa Sterling insisted, and then headed out without stopping.
"..." Sophia Lowell frowned.
Grandpa Sterling was afraid she would run off.
Urgently arriving with bodyguards to guard the door, then urging her back to the manor, wasn’t she supposed to go back to nurture the fetus, and then wait for that man to return?
What would happen then?
At night, Eugene Sterling and two bodyguards stood guard at the door.
Sophia Lowell forced herself to sleep.
It truly was grueling.
In her dream, Zane Sterling’s captivating face appeared before her eyes, as Sophia Lowell infatuatedly reached out to caress his face.
The man turned his head, placing his face in her palm like a child spoiled to the extreme.
Just as she caressed him twice, she felt something sticky on her hands. Drawing back, she found her palm coated with thick blood.
She screamed in fright.
The dream broke.
She woke up sweating, her hair sticking to her cheeks with sweat.
She sighed, got up to use the bathroom, then drank some water and lay back down.
Outside, the faint sounds continued, but she was too sleepy, drifting back to sleep in a daze.
Not long after, the door opened, a pair of shoes carrying the night’s chill stepped in, and the door was quietly closed.
The man walked gently to her bedside.
Seeing this woman he hadn’t seen for a long time, she looked fragile, her nose pink like she had cried. 𝒻𝑟ℯℯ𝑤𝑒𝑏𝑛𝘰𝓋𝑒𝓁.𝒸𝑜𝘮
He tucked her in and carefully sat on the bedside, burning eyes watching her, unable to resist brushing away the hair from her ears.
In his gaze was an indescribable depth of feeling, warm and intense.
Gently, he placed a kiss on the woman’s brow, unwilling to part.
As he left, she woke.
In a daze for several moments, she figured she must still be dreaming.
How could that man return so soon?
She closed her eyes again, slowly opened them, and the mesmerizing man was still there.
"It’s me." His hoarse voice echoed in her ear, "Sorry, I woke you."
Their gazes met in the air, countless unspoken words passing between them, his eyes shining with affection.
She gently lowered her eyes, her pounding heart stirred by his gaze, the air filled with a subtle ambiance. At that moment of interconnected gazes, the world seemed to stand still.
Only then did she realize, it was him.
He had returned!
He had returned...
Sophia Lowell’s thoughts recovered.
"Mm." She didn’t know how to respond.
"..."
Zane Sterling knew what she wanted to ask but couldn’t bring herself to.
She was afraid, afraid of hearing those things from Zane Sterling’s mouth.
"I’m tired." She asked nothing, unable to say even the words on her lips.
She was truly exhausted.
Moreover, she didn’t want to see him now.
"Alright." Zane Sterling swallowed, "Rest well, I’ll stay here with you."
"No need, you can leave." Sophia Lowell turned, her back to him.
"... Alright."
He agreed verbally yet didn’t leave.
Instead, he sat by her bed for a long, long time.
He dared not leave, fearing he wouldn’t see her again if he did.
He swallowed, moonlight through the window illuminating his exquisite face, and those two crystalline streaks on his cheeks.
