Addicted After Marriage: Marrying My Abstinent Boss-Chapter 192: Don’t Disturb My Wife’s Sleep
The next day, Faye Ellison drove over to pick them up.
Last night, Sophia Lowell and Hugh Irving stayed together.
Originally, they planned to drive themselves, but Teacher Hale said it would be too tiring for the girls to drive, so Faye Ellison took the wheel. It takes three to four hours to get to Westmere, which wasn’t a big deal for him.
Sophia Lowell and Hugh Irving had no objections and sat in the back seat.
Throughout the journey, Hugh Irving chatted with Teacher Hale, and occasionally, Faye Ellison would chime in with a couple of words.
As soon as Sophia Lowell got in the car, she couldn’t keep her eyes open. She was too tired and hadn’t slept well the night before, so she leaned directly on Hugh Irving’s shoulder and fell asleep.
Faye Ellison seemed to notice and slowed down the driving speed considerably.
The hotel they would be staying at in Westmere was designated for hosting important government officials. By the time they arrived, most of the staff involved had already checked in.
There was a dinner party that evening, and a tour of the factory was scheduled for the next day.
As they got out of the car, they ran into Colby Jennings and a group of staff from the military district who were responsible for coordinating.
They greeted each other briefly but didn’t engage in detailed conversation before going their separate ways.
The dinner party was held on the top floor of the hotel.
Hugh Irving sat between Faye Ellison and Sophia Lowell, and the attendees were mostly men, with few women in attendance.
Apart from the two female designer assistants from Faye Ellison’s team, there were only Sophia Lowell and Hugh Irving.
Most of the people were public officials, and their conversation was fairly composed.
However, Sophia Lowell and Hugh Irving couldn’t avoid being toasted.
Hugh Irving handled alcohol well and had no trouble with it.
Sophia Lowell couldn’t drink much, so she took small sips or had Hugh Irving discreetly pour it into his glass.
"What kind of guys bully two girls? They are our VIPs," Colby Jennings said with a serious face.
It was the first time Sophia Lowell and Hugh Irving had seen Colby Jennings in such a manner.
Normally, he didn’t put on airs, but now he sounded somewhat authoritative.
The men at the table heeded his words, changing the subject and no longer troubling them.
It seems Colby Jennings’ words carried some weight.
He glanced at Hugh Irving across the table.
Hugh Irving was slightly tipsy, without makeup but with a rosy complexion.
Faye Ellison, seated next to them, leaned slightly towards Hugh Irving and asked, "Is she okay? Should we take her back first?"
Hugh Irving looked at the nodding-off Sophia Lowell. If they stayed any longer, she might pass out completely.
"She’s fine, don’t worry, I’ll take care of her." Hugh Irving knew about Faye Ellison’s feelings for Sophia Lowell.
But it seemed like Faye Ellison never crossed the line, which made Hugh Irving have some respect for him.
If Sophia Lowell hadn’t married Zane Sterling, actually pairing with Faye Ellison would also have been quite fitting, as they had plenty of shared topics.
Hugh Irving shuddered at her own thoughts.
How could she make such a comparison?
Zane Sterling is actually a good person, but the number of beauties around him is indeed overwhelming.
Initially, Hugh Irving thought he had no sense of boundaries, but later realized he was quite cunning when he wanted to be.
Zane Sterling was indeed intimidating.
But Sophia Lowell was an exception for him.
Hugh Irving and Sophia Lowell didn’t feel comfortable leaving early, considering many high-ranking officials were present at the meal. They didn’t leave until they had almost finished eating.
"Are you alright?"
Hugh Irving didn’t expect Colby Jennings to come over and ask her, leaving her a bit flustered.
At the last cocktail party, he wanted to see her home, but she refused. They didn’t know each other well, and hadn’t spoken more than ten sentences, so this question felt a bit...
Hugh Irving felt that Colby Jennings liked her.
"I’m fine, thank you." Hugh Irving smiled faintly.
Sophia Lowell slowly got up, feeling a bit dizzy. She greeted Colby Jennings and said to Hugh Irving, "Let’s go, I need to use the restroom."
"Okay." Hugh Irving helped her up and then turned to Colby Jennings, "We’ll be heading out then."
"Alright," Colby Jennings replied.
Faye Ellison stood by watching them and said nothing, silently following behind Hugh Irving and Sophia Lowell.
Sophia Lowell was quite tipsy, her body was swaying, but her mind was still clear.
When they entered the restroom, Faye Ellison waited in the hallway.
When Sophia came out, she had washed her face and was feeling refreshed.
She wanted to say something, but Faye Ellison spoke first, "I’ve arranged to have some sobering soup sent to your room. If one of you can’t handle it, sharing a room might be better."
Hugh Irving knew he wasn’t addressing her, so she remained silent.
Sophia Lowell tugged on Hugh Irving, "Thank you."
"I’ll walk you back," Faye Ellison said, and without waiting for their response, headed toward the elevator.
Sophia Lowell and Hugh Irving didn’t say anything. Since they were in the same hotel, there seemed to be little point in being escorted back.
The three of them entered the elevator.
Faye Ellison glanced at Sophia Lowell, who was clinging to Hugh Irving like a sloth, and smiled.
She was still as adorable as ever.
Only, when she and Henry Quinn broke up, he didn’t make it back in time before she found comfort in another man’s bed.
Sophia Lowell didn’t notice the look Faye Ellison gave her. Her eyelids were heavy, and her hand slipped off Hugh Irving, who quickly caught her.
Faye Ellison also reached out to steady her arm.
Sophia Lowell snapped back to alertness, stood up straight, smiled, and nodded at Faye Ellison, then withdrew her hand.
Ding—
The elevator doors opened.
Hugh Irving supported Sophia Lowell to her room.
"Call me if you need anything." Faye Ellison repeated his usual phrase.
Sophia Lowell, summoning the last of her energy, pretended to be sober and said, "Don’t worry, Ariel’s here with me, it’s fine, thank you."
"Faye, you should head back; I’ve got it from here. It’s late, maybe check in on Teacher Hale?" Hugh Irving stood at the door, cautiously ensuring Faye Ellison wouldn’t follow them in.
Faye Ellison nodded, agreed, and left.
Carefully, Hugh Irving closed the door, placing Sophia Lowell on the couch, where she noticed a bowl of sobering soup on the table.
But instead of giving it to her, she poured it out, asking room service to bring a fresh bowl.
"Such dinners are rather annoying," Sophia Lowell muttered, holding her head.
Why do things only get done when people drink nowadays?
She thought about Zane’s phone call last night, feeling a wave of heartache, wondering if he was sober yet.
"They sure are annoying," Hugh Irving sighed, frowning as she opened the door to receive a fresh bowl of sobering soup from the room service.
Sophia Lowell drank it all in one go.
"Shall I stay with you?" Hugh Irving asked.
"No need." She wasn’t that drunk.
"Alright, then I’ll head out."
Hugh Irving didn’t want to intrude, afraid she’d want to make a certain phone call next.
Sure enough, after Hugh Irving left, Sophia Lowell took a shower, changed, and video called Zane Sterling.
At the time, Zane was negotiating with Steven and his team. She didn’t speak, just lay on the bed watching.
Watching this man work seriously.
But since he placed the phone on the desk, viewing him from below, all she could see was his handsome throat.
Zane often glanced at the woman in the video, watching her gradually drift off to sleep.
He couldn’t bring himself to hang up the call until it was over.
By the end, Sophia Lowell was already asleep.
Zane picked up his phone, heading back to his hotel room.
Looking at her rosy face, she even messaged him during dinner to check-in. For her to fall asleep mid-call, Zane guessed she must have had quite a bit to drink.
"Mr. Sterling, Mr. Skeech scheduled for tomorrow morning. What do you think..." Harry Langley entered with a laptop.
"Shhh..." Zane gestured for silence, not wanting to wake his sleeping wife.
Harry Langley closed his mouth and exited the room.
