Chapter 599: Chapter 354: New Debts, Old Scores (Part 2)

"People from ’Sword’? No way... They count as Navy, they probably wouldn’t refrain from capturing people."

Jabra thought for a moment and said, "Perhaps it’s just some guy skilled in the Six Styles who has completely defected from the World Government or the Navy."

"Sword?"

Lily was puzzled, "What kind of organization is that?"

"Eh? Owl, didn’t you mention it?" Jabra looked at Owl beside him in surprise.

Owl shook his head, suddenly thought of something, showed a heartbroken expression, his short legs dropped to the ground, fist pounding the ground fiercely, incredulously saying:

"Could it be... no one knows this secret?!"

Renedia asked curiously, "What secret?"

"It’s, it’s classified!"

Owl seemed to have missed something important, shouted loudly then immediately jumped up.

He was just about to say something when Jabra flashed a mischievous smile, quickly speaking ahead of him:

"Sword, the Blade, is a special unit within the Navy, its members are both part of the Navy and not. They’ve submitted their resignation but haven’t had it approved, their Navy ID has been returned to the Navy."

"So these guys don’t have to follow Navy orders, they can do whatever they want, but the Navy doesn’t take responsibility for their actions. They can turn their resignation into reality at any time, and if necessary, even become the enemy."

"Jabra, you jerk!"

Owl jumped in front of Jabra, reaching out to grab him, "This secret should have been revealed by me! Zabababa!"

"Hahahaha!"

Jabra laughed loudly, "I’m not giving it to you! Who told you to reveal my embarrassing moment last time, I’m gonna piss off this idiot!"

"Hmm?"

Sage chuckled, "What is this about? Want accolades without responsibility? When did the Navy have such a strange organization? They shouldn’t be the ones, in any case, that kind of Navy is still the Navy, they wouldn’t refrain from capturing people."

Lily nodded in agreement, "Do you have any information on those Sword members?"

"Nothing on that, Navy intelligence and ours aren’t shared, those members within the Navy are top secret."

Jabra dodged Owl’s attack and said, "However, while gathering intel, we came across a piece of news that might be related."

"Let me say, let me say!"

Owl stopped attacking instantly, turned his head to speak, but Jabra seized the opportunity and zipped up the zipper on Owl’s mouth.

"Former Navy Admiral Zephyr seems to have left the Navy, forming an organization of his own, unclear intentions."

"Zabababa! Zabababa!"

Owl angrily unzipped the zipper, too furious to speak coherently.

But soon, he sensed the mood wasn’t right, zipped up obediently and stood there quietly.

"Jabra..."

Sage stared at Jabra, causing him to break into a cold sweat.

"C-Captain..." Jabra stammered.

Sage beckoned to him, signaling for Jabra to step forward.

Smack!

As he approached, Lily instantly swung her sword, striking Jabra’s face hard with the scabbard, causing him to spin several times in the air before falling to the ground.

Sage took out a cigar from within his cloak, bit it and Lily skillfully lit it for him.

He blew out a puff of smoke and spoke to the fallen Jabra, "Next time, relay crucial information sooner."

Jabra didn’t dare to argue.

Say what?

Say that he only received the info yesterday and was afraid to speak because Sage seemed very angry?

Saying this kind of thing makes no difference.

The current outcome is that he indeed reported late.

"Zephyr... left the Navy?"

Lily frowned; she had a vivid memory of the old Navy from Logue Town fiercely battling with Sage.

It’s just, she couldn’t comprehend why someone like that would leave the Navy.

Sage thought of something and asked, "Any movements from the Seven Warlords of the Sea lately?"

"Yes."

Jabra stood up, "The Seven Warlords have invited someone claiming to be ’Whitebeard the Second’, this person previously targeted the Whitebeard Pirates in the New World, taking down quite a few captains."

"Oh, so that’s the one!"

Sage smirked, "Heh heh heh, how interesting, what’s become of that confused old fool now? Completely fallen? Or just so dazed can’t tell directions."

"Jabra, follow this lead, also find out where that old guy is. Las, I’m entrusting you to bring that person out for me. Since they joined the Pirates first and then rebelled, we’ll proceed according to our rules."

With that, he glanced at those subordinates who had been kept intact as they welcomed him, long enough for the bodies to start decomposing.

"Time to collect the bodies, give them a proper burial." Sage sighed.

"Understood, I’ll handle it responsibly." Lily said.

Since Sage founded the Pirates, the compensation for subordinates who died has always been strictly implemented.

Previously, due to lack of territory, it couldn’t be fully realized, only the financial compensation could be saved for them, but ever since occupying O’hara, this aspect has started to be fulfilled.

Thanks to Doffer’s channels and his influence on the Underworld, Sage’s compensation can be sent back to the Four Seas Land.

Most of it goes to the East Sea.

Now the old subordinates except the resilient leaders, the previously incorporated Crick Pirates, and recruits from Bridge Kingdom, through long battles, don’t actively engage anymore.

Many fled, many got killed, a few successfully retired within O’hara, stopped being pirates, and started a normal life.

Sage promised to provide for those injured or wanting to retire, but if they truly don’t want to serve, there’s no choice, not even willing to guard the territories, they fully quit being pirates.

Now they just find a job, live peacefully.

It’s already an excellent ending.

With looted wealth, stable job, and relatively peaceful environment.

For those pirates who stood no chance at reaching the top, aiming only for wealth, being able to retire smoothly makes them practically life winners.

Because of this, the pirates Sage recruited, though not as chaotic as Blackbeard’s, are still very loyal.

They don’t have to worry about anything, there’s care for the disabled, a burial service for the deceased, and if they don’t want to be pirates, they still have work to do, just focus on following Sage’s orders.

Expand territory, station locally, they earn wages.

If not interested in stability, they can venture elsewhere.

No matter the choice, they have a place.

Some older subordinates have it planned, when they’re spent, their children might continue.

Being a pirate in O’hara is a career with promise!

"Must track down that old man Zephyr!"

Sage reiterated, turning towards where the Death Star was docked.

Just as he turned, a sinister smile appeared at the corner of his mouth.

"Back then he really gave me a hard time... not being able to find him all the while, now seems like there’s an opportunity."

He looked up at the sky, smiling, "I said it, you can only die at my hands, you old geezer!"

His words are bound to come true!

The recent focus on expanding territory stalled this plan, and he couldn’t find Zephyr.

The sea is vast, he wasn’t idle enough to besiege the Navy Headquarters and Mary Geoise. 𝚏𝗿𝗲𝐞𝚠𝕖𝐛𝗻𝗼𝐯𝕖𝚕.𝚌𝗼𝗺

Not fearing them doesn’t mean acting foolishly.

Attacking the Navy now yields no benefit?

Now, with the territorial expansion concluded, he encounters this issue with Zephyr.

Old scores and new grievances, all settled together!

"Left the Navy..."

Sage shook his head, bit the cigar and blew out smoke, "Causing trouble in old age, in my opinion, lying quietly in a coffin is more appropriate. Without the Navy’s cover, what can you achieve?"
