Accidentally Yours, My Super Rich Second Husband-Chapter 90: What’s His
Delphinia couldn’t help the soft smile spreading across her lips. Evander’s words hung in the air like a sudden clap of thunder, reverberating in the quiet tension of the Harrington mansion’s grand living room. She stood still, her eyes locked on him, her heart a chaotic drumbeat in her chest. The pain on her cheek from earlier felt distant now, dulled by the overwhelming wave of emotions surging through her.
Evander stayed cool and steady, a stark contrast to the anger simmering on her father’s face. Robert Harrington, always so composed, looked completely caught off guard. His features were twisted in a mix of confusion, disbelief, and growing anger.
Lyvia and Helena, who had quietly entered the room moments earlier, froze in place. They kept glancing back and forth between Evander and Delphinia, their shock impossible to hide.
"Wife?" Robert’s voice finally broke the silence, hoarse and full of disbelief. His gaze shifted from Evander to Delphinia, as if searching for an explanation. "What do you mean, wife?"
Evander’s piercing gaze softened briefly as it landed on Delphinia, and her breath hitched. He turned back to Robert, his voice steady and firm. "Delphinia is my wife. We’re married."
The room seemed to hold its breath. The clock on the far wall ticked loudly, marking the seconds of stunned silence.
Robert moved closer, his face clouding over with anger.
"Stop this nonsense," he snapped, his voice rising. "What kind of game are you playing here? My daughter, your wife? This is absurd!"
Evander’s lips curled into a faint smirk, the kind that hinted at both confidence and defiance. "I don’t joke about serious matters, Mr. Harrington," he said smoothly. "How about Father-in-law?" he threw in, clearly trying to provoke a reaction.
The title hit like a slap. Robert’s face turned a shade redder, his fists clenching at his sides. "You are not my son-in-law," he growled. "And you never will be. Harringtons do not marry into the Walton family. I will never give my blessing to such a disgrace."
Delphinia flinched at her father’s words, the sting of rejection sharp as ever. She bit down on her lower lip, but the metallic taste of blood made her wince. She glanced at Evander, who seemed unfazed by the outburst.
Evander’s voice was calm but carried an edge of steel. "I didn’t come here seeking your blessing, Mr. Harrington. Your approval isn’t necessary. We’re already married, with or without your consent."
Robert’s eyes burned with rage as he pointed a trembling finger at Evander. "You dare come into my house and make such claims? You’ve crossed the line, Walton!"
Unmoved, Evander shrugged lightly, his broad shoulders rising and falling with effortless grace. "Believe what you will," he said. "If you need proof, I’ll have my lawyer visit you tomorrow to explain everything in detail. But I assure you, this is no lie."
The air in the room felt heavy with tension. Lyvia and Helena exchanged uneasy glances, clearly unsure how to process the revelation.
Robert’s chest heaved as he struggled to contain his anger. "You will never be acknowledged as part of this family," he spat.
Evander took a deliberate step closer, his voice dropping just slightly, enough to make Robert flinch. "That doesn’t matter to me. The only thing that does is that Delphinia is my wife, legally and in every sense of the word. If you’re still in doubt, feel free to check the records. It’s all there."
He turned slightly, his focus shifting to Delphinia. His gaze softened, and his voice became gentle, almost tender. "It’s time to go home," he said, holding out his hand.
Delphinia’s throat tightened, and she blinked rapidly, willing away the sting of tears. She hesitated for only a moment before slipping her hand into his. The warmth of his touch helped her stay calm.
The bite in her father’s voice shattered the brief peace. "Delphinia, you’re not leaving this house."
Evander turned back to face him, his hand still clasped around hers. His sharp gaze met Robert’s with unyielding determination. "She’s my wife," he said. "She’s with me now, not here. You have no right to keep her here against her will."
Robert’s mouth opened, ready to retort, but this time, Delphinia found her voice.
"Stop it, Father." Her voice trembled but grew steadier with each word. "You’ve never cared about me, not really. You sent me away, made it clear I was nothing more than an inconvenience." She swallowed hard, the memories of years of neglect rushing back. "I’m Evander’s wife now, and nothing you say will change that."
Robert’s eyes narrowed dangerously. "So, this is how it is? You’re choosing him over your family?"
Delphinia’s lips quivered, but she stood firm. "Family? What family? The same one who sold me off to that jerk Kai Robinson just to suit your agenda? The one that never wanted me around?" Her voice cracked, but she pressed on. "You’ve never treated me like I mattered, and I’m done pretending that I do."
Robert’s expression twisted with disdain. "Fine," he snapped. "If this is the path you’ve chosen, then so be it. Leave this house and never come back. Don’t you dare think the Harrington name will take you back in when he’s done with you."
Evander’s jaw tightened, but his hand on Delphinia’s waist was steady as he guided her toward the door. "Thank you for taking care of her until now," he said, his voice laced with sarcasm. "But she’s with me now, and I won’t let her down the way you have."
Delphinia leaned into his side, her steps light despite the heavy weight of her father’s words. She clung to Evander’s arm, her heart swelling with a mix of gratitude and relief. For the first time in what felt like forever, someone had stood up for her, claimed her, and taken her away from the cold, loveless house she had been trapped in for so long.
As they stepped outside into the cool night air, Delphinia felt a tear slip down her cheek, but it wasn’t from sadness. It was the kind of tear that came with the realization that she wasn’t alone anymore.
Evander glanced down at her, his expression softening. "Are you alright?" he asked quietly.
She nodded, her smile trembling but radiant. "I am now."
He pulled her closer, his voice a low murmur meant just for her. "Let’s go home."
And for the first time in her life, Delphinia knew exactly where that was.
