Accidentally Yours, My Super Rich Second Husband-Chapter 77: A Growing Concern
Evander woke up to an empty space beside him, just as it had been when he’d gone to bed the night before. He stared at the neatly made side of the bed, the sheets smooth and untouched. A frown tugged at the corners of his mouth.
What time had Delphinia come home last night? Did she even come home? The idea that she might have stayed with Ashton—or worse, with somewhere else—crossed his mind. He let out a low chuckle, shaking his head.
"Ran off to Ashton again, did you?" he muttered under his breath, his voice laced with sarcasm.
But the thought didn’t sit well with him. For some reason, it made his chest tighten uncomfortably. Pushing the feeling aside, Evander swung his legs over the edge of the bed and stood up. Every move he made was measured, his mind already ticking through the day ahead as he prepared for the morning.
He cleaned up and threw on a clean white shirt and dark pants, keeping it simple and efficient. After buttoning his cuffs, he ran a hand through his neatly combed hair, sparing another glance at the bed. Still empty.
He sighed and left the room, his footsteps echoing softly on the floors as he made his way downstairs. It was silent in the house, except for the soft noise of utensils in the kitchen.
As he walked into the dining room, his eyes automatically went to the table, looking for Delphinia. But the chair she usually occupied was empty. His frown deepened as he continued into the kitchen.
Inside, the maids were bustling about, their hands busy preparing breakfast. One of them, a young woman named Clara, noticed him and quickly straightened up.
"Good morning, sir," she said politely, bowing slightly.
"Good morning," Evander replied shortly.
Clara’s brows furrowed slightly in confusion. "I’m not sure, sir. I haven’t seen her this morning."
Evander glanced around the kitchen, but none of the other maids seemed to have any answers either. One shook her head apologetically, and another shrugged, mumbling something about not knowing where Mrs. Walton was.
With a tight nod and a clenched jaw, he muttered, "Alright."
Turning on his heel, Evander walked back to the dining room. The unease that had been a faint whisper earlier was now growing louder in his mind. He glanced toward the staircase, wondering if Delphinia was still asleep, but it was unusual for her to sleep in so late.
As he entered the dining room again, he found Ashton already seated at the table, sipping his milk lazily. Ashton looked up and gave him a lazy smile.
"Morning, Dad," he greeted.
"Morning, Ash," Evander replied, his mind clearly elsewhere.
Ashton tilted his head slightly, studying Evander’s expression. "Where’s Delphinia?"
Evander’s frown deepened. "She’s not with you?"
Ashton raised an eyebrow. "With me? No. Why would she be?"
"Did she..." Evander hesitated, his voice dropping a notch. "Did she stay with you again last night?"
Ashton’s expression turned serious. He set his glass down carefully and shook his head. "No. She didn’t. I haven’t seen her since yesterday afternoon."
Evander’s stomach tightened. The growing sense of unease twisted into something sharper, something harder to ignore. Without another word, he pulled his phone from his pocket and dialed Delphinia’s number.
The call rang twice before going straight to voicemail. Frowning, he tried again, only to be met with the same result. He stared at the screen for a moment before pocketing the phone.
"Her phone’s off," he muttered, more to himself than to Ashton.
Ashton’s brows furrowed. "That’s... unusual, isn’t it?"
Evander didn’t answer. Without another word, he walked out of the house, his steps determined as he headed for the driveway. Mr. Andrews, his trusted driver, was checking the car’s tires when Evander approached him.
"Mr. Andrews," he called out sharply.
The older man straightened up immediately. "Yes, sir?"
"What time did you pick Delphinia up last night?" Evander asked.
Mr. Andrews frowned slightly, looking puzzled. "I didn’t, sir. Mrs. Walton told me she’d be going home by taxi."
Evander’s jaw clenched. "And she didn’t say anything else?"
"No, sir. She just said she’d manage on her own," Mr. Andrews replied.
Evander’s lips pressed into a thin line. He gave a sharp nod. 𝒇𝓻𝓮𝓮𝙬𝙚𝒃𝒏𝓸𝙫𝒆𝙡.𝓬𝓸𝒎
"Thank you, Mr. Andrews."
He turned on his heel and walked back into the house, his mind racing. Delphinia never came home? Where could she have gone? And why hadn’t she called?
As he re-entered the house, he found Sienna in the hallway. She was carrying a stack of papers and paused when she saw him.
"Good morning, Mr. Walton," she greeted, her voice friendly but curious. "You look... troubled. What’s wrong?"
He hesitated for a moment before speaking. "Delphinia didn’t come home last night."
Sienna’s brows knitted together in concern. "Have you tried calling her?"
"Her phone’s off," Evander said sharply.
Sienna’s expression softened slightly, and she placed a reassuring hand on his arm. "Maybe she stayed over at her friend’s house and forgot to tell you. I’m sure everything’s fine. She’ll probably be back later today or in the afternoon."
Evander nodded slowly, though her words did little to ease the knot of worry tightening in his chest. "Yeah... maybe."
But even as he said it, he couldn’t shake the feeling that something was wrong. Delphinia wasn’t the type to simply disappear without a word. She even tell him she’d go to celebrate her friend’s birthday why he didn’t inform her at all that she would stay.
She must’ve just forgotten—that had to be it, and it was the only thing keeping him calm.
As Sienna walked away, Evander stood in the hallway, his hand gripping his phone tightly. He dialed her number again, but it still wouldn’t go through. He tried to convince himself that Sienna was right, that Delphinia would walk through the door at any moment with some explanation for her absence.
But deep down, he couldn’t shake the feeling that something else was going on.
