Chapter 99: 10. Setting a trap - Part 1

While Sienna and Kyrell went to the meeting room, Amy stayed behind in the office for a few minutes before making her way out. She walked around the place, donning an expression that said she was bored out of her mind.

First, she arrived at the secretary’s desk and smiled at the few people who were discussing among themselves.

"Hello," one of the women greeted her, and Amy nodded.

"Do you want to sit with us for some time? The meeting is going to last for some time," one of the women invited her, and Amy hesitated.

"I don’t think it’s a good idea."

"It’s just for a few minutes. You must be bored out of your mind."

Amy sighed softly, and her shoulders sagged as she took a chair and joined them.

"Do you want some coffee?"

"No, thank you." Amy never drank coffee. She was quite health-conscious. Unless she had a mission and had to stay awake for a long time, she never took caffeine.

"By the way," the woman hunched closer to Amy and lowered her voice. "I’ve been wanting to ask you this for quite some time. Is something going on between Miss Lawrence and her bodyguard?"

Amy became alert at once and noted the woman’s name. Jessica Bernie.

She didn’t reveal anything and looked at the woman in panic, her eyes quivering slightly as she raised her head to look around her. Only when she found that nobody else was listening to their conversation did she sigh in relief.

"Relax, no one will come here without informing," Jessica assured her with a smile.

"Can you tell us? We are quite curious to know if the two are in a relationship," another woman who seemed to be in her early twenties asked.

Amy wondered if they were genuinely curious and looking for something to gossip about or if they had a malicious intention in mind.

"I’m not sure about it," she said. But her voice betrayed her, and everyone understood the truth from her tone.

"Don’t be afraid. We won’t say anything to anyone," Jessica said, patting her palms. "Are they really close? Did you see something interesting? Perhaps something happened between them?"

"Does hugging count?" Amy asked, letting herself go slowly.

"What?" Jessica’s eyes widened in surprise. "Did they hug?"

Amy nodded. "I saw them hugging twice."

The women looked at each other, too astounded by the truth.

"I don’t blame Miss Lawrence, though," the woman in her twenties said. "Have you seen the man. He is so sexy. I would love to hug him too. I wonder how his body feels to touch."

Amy’s lips twitched when she heard her desires. ’Woman, control your hormones. And you won’t have a chance to hug Kyrell. Only Miss Lawrence has the right.’

"How long have you been working for Miss Lawrence? Did you join recently?" Jessica asked again, her solicitous actions not missing Amy’s radar.

"It’s been quite some time now." Amy didn’t go into details, sticking to the story they had decided upon previously.

"Oh. What about Miss Lawrence’s bodyguard?"

"He joined at the same time as me."

"Aren’t you angry?" Jessica started, and Amy realized that she had captured the first prey.

"Angry? Why? Amy asked, feigning innocence.

"I mean, you two joined at the same time. But Miss Lawrence favors him more than you."

"I’m fine," Amy said, and didn’t forget to lower her eyes. She made it seem like she was unbothered by it, but was actually bothered by it. frёeweɓηovel.coɱ

"Hey, I was just asking. Don’t feel bad." Jessica grasped her palms and smiled at her.

"Do you stay with Miss Lawrence in the estate?"

Amy nodded.

"I see. How many guards does Miss Lawrence have? Do you all stay in the estate?"

Amy became cautious at once, and she yanked her palms from her grasp.

"Why are you asking me this?" Amy didn’t hide her suspicion from her, and Jessica panicked for a moment.

"I was just asking. I noticed that all the guards around Miss Lawrence are men. You must be feeling lonely at times since you don’t have any female friends to spend time with."

The other women nodded, and Amy realized what was happening.

While the other women were sympathizing with her to some extent, Jessica had other motives in asking all the questions.

"It’s fine," Amy said half-heartedly.

"Why don’t you and I hang out together on the weekend?" Jessica suggested, and Amy thought about it for a moment. "We could go shopping, perhaps have lunch together, or do something else."

"I’m not sure. My schedule depends on Miss Lawrence."

"How about this? Let’s exchange numbers, and we can meet up if your schedule is free."

Amy nodded and exchanged numbers with all the women. She knew that it was time to leave. She wouldn’t be finding out anything else.

"I’m going to the canteen. Doesn’t anyone want to join?"

"No, thank you. We have some files to sort," the woman in her twenties said, and Amy nodded.

’Thank you for not joining. I don’t think I could stand you guys.’ Amy smiled at them and walked away from the secretarial desk. Sensing a strong gaze on her, she smiled to herself. She knew who it belonged to.

She then made her way to the canteen and ordered herself some lemonade. There were quite a few in the canteen, and they looked at her for a moment before returning to whatever they were doing.

Amy’s table was far away from the others. So, it was easy to observe them.

Nothing happened for quite a few minutes. But Amy didn’t give up. Since Kyrell hadn’t sent her any message, the meeting was still in progress. So, she had a lot of time.

She scrolled through her phone, texting Isaac and the others to pass her time. Smiling at something Xavier had sent, she sipped her lemonade, only to stop when she felt a shadow on her.

Alarm bells started going off again, and she raised her head to meet a man who was smiling at her warmly.

"May I help you?" Amy asked politely.

"May I sit here, Miss?" the man asked, his voice as smooth as silk. He was gentle and considerate, and Amy knew at once that he was danger.
