Accidentally Yours, Mr. Stranger-Chapter 67: Where in the will? - Part 5
Chapter 67: Where in the will? - Part 5
Sienna failed to control her emotions when she heard who the second witness was.
Brendon Curtis? How could it be him? Why did he not say anything when I visited him yesterday? What’s happening?
Her obvious shock didn’t go unnoticed by Dane, and he presumed it to be for some other reason. Why would her father put a condition for her to be married to gain control of all the assets?
"Miss Lawrence, please sign this document for me with the date." Dane stood up and handed her the document along with a pen.
Sienna’s hands trembled. However, it wasn’t the time for her to show her vulnerability to anyone. Closing her eyes for a second, she took the pen and signed the document.
"So, Miss Lawrence, what are you going to do?" Dane asked, returning to his seat, without the document this time.
Sienna remained silent. She knew what he was up to. His intentions were as clear as day in his wicked eyes.
"Since you’ve to find someone to marry, why don’t you consider me?" he suggested, and Sienna smirked, her eyes filled with endless ridicule and disgust.
"Mr. Ledger, please get your brain tested. I think you’ve lost your mind."
"Sienna..."
"It’s Miss Lawrence to you," Sienna deadpanned, giving him a look that said he better watch out. She wouldn’t show him any mercy if he crossed his limits. "And why would I marry a scumbag like you? You aren’t worth my time or energy."
Dane chuckled all of a sudden and shook his head. "Do you think you can marry anyone?"
Sienna didn’t reply, waiting to see what the man intended to do.
"Can you say for sure that whoever marries you in your current predicament isn’t behind the billion-dollar assets in your name?" Dane taunted. He had done his research about Sienna. She didn’t have any male friends or acquaintances she could depend upon. If she found someone, there was no guarantee they weren’t behind her for money.
"Can you trust them? Can you trust a stranger and include him in your life?" he continued, giving her a look that said she had no choice.
"Why do you think I’d choose you?" Sienna shot back, smiling at him mockingly.
"Why not? You know me, and I’ll never harm you," Dane said as if he were the most righteous man on earth. Before him, everyone else was untrustworthy and immoral.
Sienna scoffed, finding the man delusional. "Instead of marrying you, I’d prefer to donate all the assets to the Lawrence Family Foundation."
"You..." Dane was livid. But he calmed himself in time and even smiled softly. "You won’t. It’s your grandfather’s hard-earned money. You won’t allow his empire to crumble just like that."
Dane was right. Her grandfather had poured his blood, sweat, and tears into building the Lawrence Group. Although donating all the assets was for a good cause, she wasn’t a saint to give up on something her family had worked hard for. But Dane didn’t have to know that.
"Try me," Sienna said with such determination that Dane’s smile faltered. It seemed as if she’d really give up on her inheritance rather than marry him.
"Miss Lawrence, do you have to be heartless? Can you watch your grandfather’s hard work reduced to nothingness in the future?" Dane questioned as if he was aggrieved for her dead grandfather. "If your Grandpa discovers your thoughts, he’ll roll in his grave in agony."
To Sienna, anyone mentioning her family’s deaths was a sore spot. The wound was still fresh, and the gruesome images of their dead bodies kept flashing before her eyes, making her lose control of herself completely. ƒreeωebnovel.ƈom
"At least, he’ll be proud that I didn’t choose a bastard like you. On the contrary, I wonder how miserable your father must be to realize what a scumbag his son is. You’re not worthy of being Mr. Ledger’s son." Sienna fired back as if she had missiles in her mouth. "Such a fine man. It’s a pity he had such a scoundrel as his son."
"Sienna..." Dane warned, and Kyrell and Xavier instantly stepped forward.
"Mr. Ledger, your work is done here. You may leave now." Sienna motioned for him to leave, staring at him as if he were trash. "Please escort him out of the estate."
Frank remained in his spot. But Kyrell and Xavier got to work and approached him, their intimidating gazes suppressing him until he trembled.
Seeing the two sturdy men approaching him, Dane chickened out and stood up in fright. Not even bothering to zip his bag, he glanced at Sienna, who was reading the will. Evilness flashed in his eyes. But he didn’t say anything and bolted out of the estate before the men escorted him out.
"Miss, what do we do now?" Frank asked once Dane was out of sight. He was still shocked by the turn of events and had yet to come to his senses.
Sienna stared at the second name in the witness section and tapped her fingers on it. "It looks like we have a lead now."
Without dilly-dallying, she called the man who surprisingly answered her call within seconds.
"Mr. Curtis, this is Sienna Lawrence speaking."
"I know Sienna. I was expecting your call," the man said, his voice thick with emotion.
"Oh, really?" Sienna’s brows shot up in curiosity.
"Yes."
"May I know why you were certain I’d call you?"
"Isn’t it because of the will?"
"Is it authentic?" Sienna asked, and Brendon discerned the underlying meaning behind her words. The will wasn’t fake. Sienna believed it. It was something else she wanted to know.
"Yes, it is."
"Including the clause about the marriage?"
"Yes."
"Before we get to the will, there’s something else I want to know. Why didn’t I know anything about this will?"
"Sienna..." Brendon sighed heavily and went silent for a moment. "Warren wanted this will to be a secret. He was trying to protect you."
"What do you mean?" Sienna’s gaze narrowed, and a bad feeling sprouted in her heart. She held her breath, waiting for the man to speak.
"Warren knew his life was in danger. He prepared everything before he left." Brendon’s voice trembled, and his tone was laced with pain.
"If any of you were to find out about the will, you’d start worrying, and it’d alert the enemy."
"Did Dad know that only one of us would survive?" Sienna’s voice choked as she held back her sobs. "Is that why he put the clause?"
"Sienna, Warren wanted you to get together with Dane."
"What are you trying to say, Mr. Curtis?"
"Warren knew only you’d survive. So, he put this clause."
