In a quiet corner of Owlsgrave, inside a small, heated room, a man sat in silence. Steam rose from a boiling pot, clinging to his skin and darkening it. Soft music floated through the air. With his eyes closed, he hummed along, fully lost in the moment, enjoying his peace.
Polar had been away for a while, enjoying his little vacation with his wife when his cellphone rang.
He groaned a little, before answering the call. "It better be good." He said to the person on the other end.
The week has been great except for the news of one member of their association who had accidentally died strangely. They all thought it wasn’t safe being at home and decided to stay far away from their home, at least until they figure out how he had died.
"Sir, you just became a grandfather." Polar smiled, dropping aside the worry for a brief second. He has finally become a grandfather after all these years. What a blessing.
"Tell Francine, I’ll come over next week to see her and the baby. Let’s hope he’s not a genius." He laughed, then his tone turned serious.
He would never wish for any of his children to be smart in any way. After all, he’s made money that can carry ten generations, that is if they decide to spend as much as they want. But if they decide to manage, then it would last 20 generations to come.
"He definitely is not sir." The man said.
"Have you checked his IQ?" Came polar words.
"N... No sir, we cannot do the test now as whatever we get now might change in the future. Plus the baby is only a few minutes old." The man said.
He had no idea how someone as dumb as Polar got so rich in the end. Maybe because he’s so greedy.
"Alright. Francine is dumb, and her husband is too. There’s no way their child can magically be smart." He laughed.
"How about the Peterson. Any word from them?"
"Nothing sir. But I heard from Barny that the son escaped to another country with his wife recently." He said.
"Playing smart now are we?" Polar smiled.
"What country did they go to?" He asked.
"Jaguar city sir." Polar narrowed his eyes. That city... Wasn’t it the same city Xavier’s daughter now lived in? Come to think of it, they had sent someone there to kidnap her and he had yet to hear anything from them.
Still in his thoughts, another call came through and when Polar checked, he frowned. It was a call from the office.
He had made sure to block whatever call since they were on vacation. Did the man finally kidnap the girl?
Couldn’t they wait till after they are back?
"I’ll call you back." He said to his assistant and went ahead to pick up the call.
"Where the hell have you been Polar? I’ve been calling you for a week now." The man on the other end sounded really angry.
"On vacation like we all agreed." Came Polars’ nonchalant words.
"If they already have Xavier’s daughter, lock her up in the white room until we resume." He said.
"Who said we have the girl?" The other man asked and Polar sat up. His men were the smartest in the country, they had never failed any mission, so how did they not have the girl till now?
"What are you talking about?"
"Where have you been Polar. Haven’t you seen the news?" The man on the other end yelled.
"What are you saying? I’ve been away from the internet and the news for the past week.
"Well, another tragic death has happened as the man you sent was magically killed by a masked man just at the entrance of the airport. I don’t know how they must have found out about our arrival, but they killed him before he even arrived."
"Some say it was a beast, others say it was a man. But we have no idea what. All o know is that it could be Xavier’s men. But how can he have such powerful connection outside of Owlsgrave?" Polar frowned at his words.
"It isn’t Xavier dummy. It’s the Adkins. That girl is the Adkins heir, how could we have forgotten about that detail? We cannot send just anyone after her. They’ll kill them all." He had forgotten that the Adkins family was the biggest in the world.
There has to be another way of getting that Penelope girl. A way no one will notice. Still in his thoughts, Polar remembered Chris and smiled.
"Polar, are you there?" The man on the other end called.
"I am. I guess vacation’s over for me. We have a big job to accomplish. We cannot lose this brain this time." He rose and stepped out of the room he was in.
"I’ll see you in the office tomorrow." At that, Polar hung up and dialed another number quickly.
"Get my car ready, we’re going to pay the Petersons a visit now." He stepped inside the bedroom and got dressed.
"Where are you going to Polar, you promised you aren’t going to work." The woman on the bed said quietly. She has not had her husband to herself for years and just when he finally agreed to go on vacation with her, he was leaving.
"Pack your bags we’re going home," Polar said picking up his clothes.
"Why? Did something happen?" She asked.
"Francine is finally a mother. I’ll send you over there to stay with her. I have some work to do." Polar stepped into his closet and put on his clothes before stepping out again.
He needed to pay the Petersons a visit. They’re the key to him getting the girl. Maybe she’d solve their recent problem with her brain and give them more money. He smiled.
"When will you be back to see our grandchild?" His wife asked.
"In two weeks, I have a lot of work to do."
