Academic gathering with a lich-Chapter 774 - 715 Occupational Preferences
The towering warrior, wielding a massive axe, let out a crazed, excited roar in the face of the beast horde; the black cavalry formed an army, charging ferociously at the meteor showers falling from the sky; Samurai, with swords in hand, danced with blades wrapped in a whirlwind of Magic. Scholars in long robes dwelled in high towers, clutching tomes and pacing back and forth in a pedantic manner, muttering words. Then, in the next moment, they’d twirl their pointy beards, put down their books, pick up their Magic Wands, and teleport to the chaotic battlefield to unleash a rain of doom.
Elemental Creatures added new colors to the bloodstained battlefield, only for the hues to be wiped away into nothing by the twisted dimensional monsters. Divine light fell continuously from the sky, reviving warriors on the verge of becoming heroes to fight again with sword and axe; yet some living beings hid in the shadows, sending those reckless ones into a joke, a dagger thrust into the chinks of armor, an arrow’s tail growing out of the back of a head, or a deadly animal trap.
Bloody, contentious, hateful, and furious emotions painted a turbid canvas of battle that, in the dull eyes of the Elves, kindled an excitement and beauty that fired the blood. They seemed to have been infected by the plague of war, with a frenzied red gleaming in everyone’s eyes.
Lyle was very satisfied with this outcome, and even more so that the ill omens of mental influence thrived in the Dreamland. The tendrils of illusions ready to strike retracted, no need anymore for the backup plan to deepen emotional contagion. Blue Dragon Kristo frowned in deep thought, Irason and Green Dragon Claudia wore matching expressions of astonishment at the spectacle in the sky, while Susanna stared at Lyle, thought for a moment, and then turned her gaze to the Elves.
All the Elves looked at the images, then at Lyle, their joy and admiration bursting forth, as the administrator elevated to the shrine of a plague doctor.
Doludo could feel his own body trembling, raising his hand to ask the man in black with a malicious grin, "You mean to say that all this can be experienced in Dreamland?"
"Of course, this is an introduction to new professions, which are the roles that you’ll be able to choose to become in the future." This included all those who were beaten and defeated on the CG screen.
A relatively young-looking Dream Elf drowned out the others’ discussions with his question.
"Mr. Administrator! Can we also become as powerful as those heroes?"
Of course... not a chance. Lyle smirked to himself. That was just a game trailer effect, even million-strong lords had to run errands and do odd jobs. Besides, who were those replicas in the footage? The one summoning meteor showers, flinging spatial rifts, and blasting everyone around with Magic was the scholar’s Dream replica, just like Raymond’s gatekeeper—a boss-level being. Where was the gatekeeper? Hiding in the clouds, dropping holy lights down to the ground. With just these two, Lyle had turned cold-weapon melee into a magical war, and although the remaining professional replicas were not strong, with himself, Kristo, and Susanna around, pulling off cool special effects was a breeze.
Kristo was a perfectionist, he loved drawing pointless but cool Magic patterns; the enemies, buildings, and environment on the spot were all played by the phantom team. They, who loved peace, didn’t see the drama as a conflict of harm and performed brilliantly. Susanna was responsible for the final editing and compilation of the Dreamland. The result, as expected, unleashed the Elves’ cheers.
And now, there were people actually asking if his carefully designed illusion was real.
Lyle answered them with a smile.
"I believe in you."
Once again, the Elves were thrown into a frenzy.
"I think I can become a Defender Knight, just like in the footage! Stand against a meteor!" A young Elf and his companions discussed excitedly. No one offered a rational and objective rebuttal, as they all shared the same eagerness in their eyes.
"Dreamland has new special areas where mentors can teach you vocational skills; they are located in certain parts of these new maps, as for their specific location... please explore to find them." A few responded to Lyle’s words while the rest were still engaged in enthusiastic discussions. Lyle didn’t mind; he retreated to the background along with his fellow administrators.
The elders of Doludo’s group gathered together, their mentality a bit more stable than that of the apprentices, but smiles also appeared on their faces. Essena Nightshine, the Priestess, her upturned lips resembled the tranquil moon that emerges from behind dissipating clouds. The high levels of the three players also represented their enthusiasm for Dreamland.
Charles Nightingale, the War Druid, rubbed his bristly chin.
"A Defender Knight of the warrior branch! That really is most suitable for me, a guardian who charges into battle and protects companions—that’s the profession I want!"
Essena Nightshine expressed her preferences.
"I’m very interested in the Healing Priest of the priest branch, that warm glow is like the sun, and I look forward to the feeling of worshiping the sun, wondering if it’s the same as the Priestess of the Moon."
The two turned their expectant gazes towards Doludo Yuehen, the wise friend who fell into contemplation. The scene evoked memories of old times when Doludo, during the Evil God war, served as a strategist. Experiencing the feelings from peaceful times was precisely why the three enjoyed teaming up.
"My old friend, which branch of the mage have you taken a fancy to? Don’t worry about us, no matter what you choose, we will support you," Charles said with a smile. Doludo usually took others’ feelings into account, preferring the greater good; he was undoubtedly a good friend and a good teacher. But as his close friends, they also hoped he could relax a bit, be whimsical for once.
"You said it!" Doludo looked at his companions, those gentle deep blue eyes twinkling with mischief, "Then I’ll really choose what I like!"
"Sure, as you wish."
Doludo held the magic wand, looking at the shiny emerald at the tip, the gem reflecting his own serene face.
"’Embark on different worlds, live different lives.’ I really like this slogan. The administrator is right, I should... experience something completely different. Charles, you cast aside the burden of being a general to become a knight who leads the charge, Essena has abandoned her preference for moonlight to worship the sun, so I... I will lay down the burden of thought. I declare, I will not think in Dreamland! I don’t want to squeeze my brain for ways to break the game; I want to be simple and happy like a brute!"
"I’m going to change my class to the Berserker of the warrior branch!"
"...We... support you... but without you, we’ll lack magic damage, what should we do?"
"Don’t know, I’m the unthinking Berserker!"
"..." Charles looked at his friend who had fully embraced his new role, somewhat speechless.
Berserkers aren’t brainless idiots, it’s hard to tell if Doludo is praising the Berserker or belittling the profession.
The Dream Elf players left Starting City one after another to explore unknown regions, unaware that these new professions concocted by Lyle were much more complicated than they had imagined.
